Les Hauts de Loire Relais & Châteaux

Pros: Les Hauts de Loire is a beautiful hotel in a peaceful setting near Tours. The reservation department was very responsive and flexible with room arrangements, which made the planning process smooth and pleasant. The main building has a very classical and elegant appearance, and the large park surrounding the property is one of the highlights, offering lovely walks through the woods. The location feels beautiful and secluded, ideal for a quiet stay. The facilities are also very nice, including the swimming pool and spa, and the air conditioning worked very well in the bedrooms. Cons: While the room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom did not have a separate shower, only a shower inside the bathtub, which may not be ideal for everyone. The bedroom décor, although in keeping with the classic style of the property, can feel a bit dated. Another small inconvenience is the gravel on many of the paths, which makes it harder to pull wheeled luggage around the property. Overall, Les Hauts de Loire is a charming and relaxing hotel with beautiful grounds, good facilities, and helpful service. It is especially well suited for guests looking for a quiet countryside escape, though a few practical details could be improved.

We had a wonderful stay at Les Hauts de Loire, our second experience with a Relais & Châteaux property, and once again, it did not disappoint. The hotel is elegant and beautifully put together, with a real sense of history and place. Everything feels thoughtfully chosen — from the décor and beautiful grounds to the incredibly comfortable bedding and well-appointed rooms. It has that rare combination of being refined and luxurious while still feeling warm and comfortable. What we especially loved was the boutique atmosphere and personalized service. Because the property is intimate, you quickly recognize the staff and feel genuinely looked after. A special shout-out to Pascal, the gentleman who seemed to do everything — welcoming guests, helping with luggage, tending the bar, and assisting at the restaurant — always with a smile and an effortless sense of hospitality. He was wonderful. The food was another highlight. Breakfast was excellent, and our dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant was phenomenal — beautiful food and a truly memorable experience. We traveled with young children and felt very welcome. While the atmosphere is perhaps naturally more geared toward couples and a peaceful getaway, the hotel made our family feel completely comfortable. The children loved the swimming pool, the beautiful grounds, and outdoor activities such as pétanque. Overall, this is a beautiful, elegant property with wonderful food, thoughtful service, and a great deal of character. You can really feel the care that goes into the experience, and it represents the Relais & Châteaux spirit beautifully. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it.

great location and beautiful building, well decorated and clean, lovely pool and tennis, very good bistro, breakfast disappointing and below expectations for 5 star, not enough staff so tables not cleared and buffet dishes not refilled, ran out of croissants, water and fruit, not offered refills of coffee or tea, hot dishes were cold and congealed and no offer of cooked to order eggs or similar, room very well decorated and good facilities but poor soundproofing so we were woken by a crying baby next door, there were lots of small children and no special facilities for them so not very relaxing for us as a child free couple

Lack of welcome at reception Tired service Bistro - undercooked pork & dodgy chocolate desert Wine waiter served us a different wine from another bottle mid meal !! But the main reason to avoid is the large groups of US cyclists on tours of the Loire … the Swimming pool etc is not peaceful…

We would like to thank the Les Hauts de Loire team for their kindness, attentiveness, and exceptional service. We were travelling as a couple with our cat, and every one of our requests was handled with warmth and care. We highly recommend Les Hauts de Loire and look forward to returning.

Lovely hotel with good restaurant facilities located outside of the busy towns. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Food is good although the restaurant could have provided alternatives for ingredients that we don’t like. Overall, a great stay.

What a truly magical and exceptional property that genuinely deserves to call itself 5 star! A former hunting lodge for the wealthy, this magnificent place has been transformed into a luxury resort complete with Clarins spa and gourmet restaurant. The staff are wonderful and the rooms beyond compare. If ever you're in the Loire valley and want an idyllic place to rest, romance or play - this is it!

This Chateau has become our favourite place, not just in France but anywhere. The staff, setting, restaurants are all just amazing. It truly is a very special place. We highly recommend

We don’t check out till tomorrow but I wanted to record a shocking experience. This is a 5* hotel, marketed under the Relais & Chateau umbrella. So we expect a reasonable level of service. HOWEVER … The hotel has two restaurants. When I tried to book a table for dinner I was told that one was closed each night and they could not give us a table at all on our second night and could only give us a table at 9pm on our first night. No offer of room service was made. The hotel is in the middle of the countryside, not in a town with other facilities nearby. On our first night, they relented and eventually gave us a table at 7pm in the Bistro after I insisted several times. We had just completed a very long drive which I’d already told the hotel about when I booked the room. At no time during our dinner was the restaurant more than half full so we fail to understand why they were insisting that 9pm was the only option. The dinner itself was quite nice and the waiting staff were friendly. On our second night (tonight) we have to go out of the hotel and drive for a few kilometres to find another restaurant because they say the hotel restaurant is full. I wonder if it will actually be full? Or if it will remain half empty again as the bistro was last night? I do understand that kitchens need to pace their service but this is no way to treat hotel guests who have chosen an expensive hotel in the expectation of good service. Complete madness to be honest. What a letdown.
