We found a good deal on the web site, which included discounts for having proof of vaccines, plus coupons totaling ¥8,000. I think the coupons were part of the ”Go To Travel” campaign. These coupons could only be used in Oita prefecture, by the next day. The hotel has a grand, luxurious appearance and feel, but also feels dated. After check-in, we took the shuttle bus to the outside onsen (about 5 minutes away). This was included in the price (I am not sure if it is actually owned by the hotel. There is a fee for people who are not staying at the hotel). This onsen was glorious! All the baths are outside, surrounded by trees and nature. The only caveat is that there were many stairs going down to the onsen. I did not expect that at all, and it was not easy on my knees (no problem for my partner). The other onsen in the hotel (there were two) also involved walking (it is as large hotel), and some stairs too. The floors in the onsen seemed more slippery than I remember any other onsen I have visited before. Dinner was buffet style. Due to COVID restrictions, we had to get our temperature checked, and wear plastic gloves while serving ourselves (there was a box at the table, and a container for disposal of them). The seating was partitioned, and it was very comfortable. Even though it was a buffet, there were 3 choices for seating: 5:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm, with a 90 minute limit. The food was good, but my partner had to stand in line at a station for freshly prepared meat for 30 minutes. Breakfast was served in the same place as dinner. We got a lower-priced deal, and our room was on the 1st floor. The hallway was a little dark compared to the other floors (which we had to access for the front desk/entrance to the hotel and to get to the dining area and the onsen). To me, there was a musty smell that my partner did not notice. The place is older, and it is right next to the river, and it was the middle of Japanese (humid) summer, and I assume not all the rooms are like this. There was a can of roach spray in the closet (which thankful we did not need!), and requests not to open the windows to prevent bugs from getting in the room. The sound and site of the river outside the window was wonderful. The beds (two twin beds) were comfortable and we got a good night's sleep. It was my partner's 50th birthday, so we mentioned this to see if they had any thing special (even for an extra charge). They gave a card and a plastic rose (I think the rose was for the birthday), but said they did not have anything else. The water pot already had hot water in it when we arrived. I appreciate that. They also had the kind of coffee in which you open the single pack, put it over the cup (good size, not tiny like some places) and pour hot water on it (like a one cup drip coffee- not instant). I often travel with these types of coffee packs as a lot of hotels in Kyushu only have instant coffee or none at all in the rooms. The

The hotel is close to the bus terminal and shopping mall. It is 3 minutes away from the Shangxiatong Shopping Street. It is very convenient to buy food and beverage. There is a city tram stop next to the shopping street. It takes only 15 minutes to Kumamoto JR Station.

The service staff was very friendly, we received us at the main entrance when we arrived by car, helped with our luggage, led us into the restaurant, and introduced us to various ingredients and cooking methods. The cooking method for dinner is very special, setting up a fire on the sand and barbecuing, the taste is very unique. After the meal, lead us to the room and explain one by one, very professional. The location is relatively remote, but it can be regarded as a feature. The hotel has a public bath, but we didn't go because there is a private bath in the room and the water temperature is very comfortable. Compared with other high-priced brand hotels, the price is really first-class, but the location is really remote.

It is a secret hot water near Kurokawa Onsen. When I stopped at the parking lot, the inn was greeted and guided immediately. There is a semi open-air bath away from all rooms. I stayed in a room called a day of forest, where I can see bamboo forest from the bath. The bath on the room is a small inn, but this is a wide rock bath, and it was the best inn I have ever used. It was also good that the bedroom and toilet was away. The family bath along the river was very hot, so the temperature was considerably lowered by water. The large bath near the mother's house, where the atmosphere stairs were down, was good in the morning and night, and it was three times, but it was rental. The meal was very delicious with morning and evening thoughts. However, it was a pity that the person in charge was a new rice, so there was no explanation of the dish. There was an explanation from the lady general at breakfast. (I think dinner books are required.) Especially rice is excellent. I returned for the first time. I heard the brand to the lady general on the way back. When I returned, I was brought with a different tea bowl and I thought my care was great. Because it was spring festival, I thought it would be ruined if there was a person in a country with a large voice, but I was able to spend very quietly at the dining room. I thought that maybe even the inn was thinking... And the dryer in the room is weak. Amenities are substantial. I was happy that there was cleaning, lotion and cotton swab in the public bath. The phone can't see the email unless you go out. The price is also reasonable compared to a famous inn nearby. During the day, stop by hot springs nearby, and if you stay here, it is the best!

I booked a single room without meals, but for a single room, it was very large and comfortable to use. Each room also had a wifi and had a large bath. Of course, the bath and toilet are separate 々, and it was very nice to be able to use a proper hot spring. It also had a large refrigerator and a compact safe, so I was very relieved. The air conditioner is quiet and comfortable. There was also a large parking lot, so I was able to park easily even in a large non-foil passenger car. It was a small supermarket in ２～３ minutes by car, so I stayed without meals, but I didn't have any trouble eating. I definitely wanted to use it again.

The experience was absolutely amazing.💕The price is very inexpensive for everything that are included in your stay. The breakfast and dinner were delicious there was a lot of food and it was very traditional. As we came for our birthdays the staff gave us presents. The Onsens both interior and outdoors were so relaxing and beautiful.♨️ This staff is so caring, do not hesitate to ask for help if you’re having trouble wearing your Yukata properly. The minute you walk in, you relinquish your shoes. Everywhere is tatami and so we walk in our socks or indoor shoes, an immediate plus and relaxing moment. Our room was called The Annex. It is apart from the hotel. The Annex is Japanese with tatami and western beds, very comfortable. When we approached the front door, the views off the private garden were gorgeously dramatic mountain cliffs and there are views of other mountains and the stream from the other side of The Annex as well. Spacious and open and extremely comfortable. While many rooms come with a private dining room in the restaurant, the private eating room associated with the Annex also has another private garden with views of the mountains. A small note: All liquids in the frig are complimentary, nice touch! The service was excellent, well trained. The food was delicious even though we have many dietary limits - like no meat, pork, heavy oils. They accommodated our restrictions with delicious, fresh fish and vegetables and fruit. The onsens, even though public access as well, were clean and designed beautifully. We've been to many ryokans this year, mainly in Kyushu since we live here. This onsen had the most beautiful facilities - and the views were drop dead gorgeous. My jaw literally dropped when I saw the view from the onsen with the lounge chairs in the steaming water - and what an amazing onsen that was!!! After much thought, the only downside is the outdoor tub in the Annex, which is really not an onsen since it used chlorinated water and the two of us had to squeeze in. Having said that, we already booked our next stay in the spring and cannot wait to return.

A very traditional hot spring hotel. The rooms are also laid out like traditional houses. The scent of rush mats hits your face as soon as you enter the door. The corridor design makes living more convenient and reasonable. Sleeping on the Kurokawa River at night may be a bit mind-boggling for those who are sensitive to sound. I chose a one-stay, two-dinner plan, a traditional Japanese kaiseki. The Japanese food was filling but not delicious~ The only regret is that the hot shower in the room recently broke down. I originally chose this hotel because it had a private bathroom in the room. But the controller, Uncle Nakanishi, was particularly interesting. That night, there was insufficient water pressure on the second floor and the water supply was cut off. The emergency call was not delayed with the false enthusiasm of the Japanese. Instead, he hung up the phone in a very rude manner and said ”wait a moment.” , I also took a cold shower and ran out of water halfway, so I solved the customer's problem first. With this episode, I can still sympathize and understand. When I checked in, the other fat uncle was not very enthusiastic, a little cold and stiff. Too many guests and too busy?

The most surprising hotel on this trip. The location is relatively remote, so quiet and suitable for self-driving. The neighborhood is so deserted. It takes more than 10 minutes to drive to find a restaurant. We didn’t go out at night because it was dark and freezing. The boss was so kind and even treated us to cup noodles and bananas 😂 I read a comment before that the boss teaches stargazing, but it turns out he uses an astronomical telescope. It happened to be cloudless that night, so we could see the rings of Saturn!

I stayed with my eldest son's family of 4 who live in Kumamoto.They said they had never stayed at Kurokawa Onsen even though they had lived in Kumamoto for about 6 years, so they came all the way from Saitama to pay all the expenses to us.I wonder what's going on. (lol) The accommodation was a large inn in Kurokawa Onsen, but we entered the hot springs at 4pm, 8pm, and 7am the next day, but for some reason we had almost exclusive access to the hot springs.We had a large indoor bath surrounded by a bamboo grove, and a Japanese cypress bath. There are three hot springs: two, an open-air bath, and a hot spring with an open-air bath that can be used by visitors.The second one was probably the best.The quality of the spring water is simple.The room was an ordinary Japanese-style room, but you could hear the sound of a waterfall from the river flowing beside it. The meal was a buffet, and the tuna sushi with red vinegar was excellent.Afterwards, we had various types of skewers, amberjack sashimi, roast beef, and my elementary school grandson ate 5 rolls of eel, which was overeating.There were all-you-can-drink shochu drinks. We were able to compare the drinks! The shochu from Kurokawa Onsen was delicious, and the breakfast buffet included natto and milk that were locally produced and delicious.At night, we got to see Jupiter and the moon through an astronomical telescope, and my grandson was impressed! I didn't go for a walk around the city due to the cold weather, so I just stayed at the inn, but I was able to take it easy.I think this is an inn that families can enjoy together.
