Alpine Motel

We had a great stay at the Alpine Motel. The kitchen studio was perfect for our family- couple and a 2yr old. We had everything we needed. It is dated but very spacious and everything was clean. Enjoyed watching the traffic and people go past from the upstairs outdoor bench seats. This is a great reasonable accommodation option and handy to town - we walked down to the Victorian predinct and harbour/wharf.

We stayed here to experience the old building. One night in the Spa suite and it was wonderful. The bathroom with spa is a lovely, heated room and the bed in the old part was very good. The old lift still works and the sweeping staircase is grand. If you enjoy history then the nostalgia that staying in the old section of the hotel brings is great. The double hung windows still work and let in a wonderful breeze. We arrived on a Sunday night, the restaurant was closed, fortunately opposite the hotel is Fat Sally’s a popular bar and restaurant serving great food. 5 stars for the experience of the old world

The location is acceptable. It is a three-kilometer drive from Baishi Town and the Penguin Conservation Center. The location is easy to find. It is just by the road, but the boss is a bit old-fashioned, but still enthusiastic. Help us book the penguin home that night and give it to us when we check in Talking about keeping quiet when watching penguins, he said that he knew we were Chinese, and that many Chinese tour group members talked loudly when watching the penguins come home, got up and walked around, scaring the penguins away. Hearing what he said, I felt a trace of dislike for us~

We stayed overnight on a roadtrip and this is a great motel in a perfect location. The upstiars room was smaller than other places we had stayed on our trip. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming and there is an open air carpark outside the door. The room was more the size of a standard hotel room than a motel room, but the owners had the room well planed and everything you could need was there, including shampoo, body wash and soap dispensers also coffee pod machine with pods! The shower water preasure was amazing, I haven't felt a shower that strong in years! Tv with Sky channels and very comforable queen bed. Motel was very modern and clean. Great location just north of downtown Oamaru with McDonalds, BP service station, KFC, Bottle store, Indian takeaway next door or across the road. Great value at $183NZD per night.

Pros: location is good, near to a grocery store. Room is large, lovely toilet. a small microwave. Cons: Not satisfied with the breakfast. Juices and milk were served in glasses in the evening before the next day and they were just covered with a plastic. Dont think this is very hygienic. Cleanliness of the room is moderate, the linen is clean but we are not sure about the sheet covering it, looks not clean. A bit expensive to be served with opened milk and juices (covered with plastic) only. Other than that, its ok.

We had the best service from the team at the Oamaru Motor Lodge. We were coming back from a concert in Dunedin and didn't make it to the accommodation until half past midnight. We had told them this in advance and they had left the room door open for us with the keys inside, with a little note on the table with the wifi password and some kind words. The place is lovely and comfortable, we would definitely come back!
