This is an honest and bare facts review.
This NOT a 5-star resort. It is 3-star wanting to be seen as a luxury resort.
The resort is dated. Meaning, it has aged and upkeep has not kept pace. I have seen review responses from management that have said that they are in the process of refurbishing the rooms. That may be so - however the resort is then over priced for in refurbished rooms!
Let’s talk about pricing - the prices are excessive for Batam standard. For the same price, for a quality experience you can stay at Carlton Singapore opposite Raffle city.
We were “upgraded” to a 2 bedroom apartment/room. I didn’t want that. I wanted my single floor unit, as intimate setting for my wife and I. I’m areas, we had a massive 3 storey apartment - separating live by and bedroom and a roof sun deck. Not great if your wife recently had a foot trauma and now needs to climb stairs. No indication of what you were going to experience when they declared “upgrade”.
The Room amenities are sparse. Coffee mugs only - no glasses.
The menus are over priced, the drinks are over priced. The included breakfast is sub standard buffet. I wanted a fried egg and it took 5 mins before they even started and then was half cooked.
The rooms were poorly repainted, paint splashes everywhere. The pool step handle was broken. The pool lights did not work. The toilet seats were terrible - and in one bathroom flaking.
The service aspires to be responsive and overall I felt that they tried hard. However, once disappointed, it is hard to come back from that space and difficult for even impressive service to recover.
Summary:
Wait a year for them to get the so-called refurbishments completed. Then it will be a quality 3-star resort.
However - there are better experiences and more cost effective through Batam. In retrospective - I would fly to Bali and stay in Nusa Dua for the same price.
