Noboribetsu Hotel Guide

Noboribetsu is located in the southwestern part of Hokkaido and is home to many hot springs such as the Noboribetsu Onsen, Karulurus Onsen, and Shin-Dinbim Onsen, as well as beautiful natural scenery of seas and lakes. Parts of the city has been designated as part of the Shikotsu Toya National Park. Located 200 meters above sea level, the Noboribetsu Hot Spring, which is known as a representative hot spring of Hokkaido, is a resort surrounded by old growth forests. The nine kinds of hot springs here all have their own unique characteristics, some are made up of hydrogen sulfide water, some contain salt water, and others contain iron. The excellent water quality here has made the hot springs well known around the world.

The most notable part of the hot spring area in Noboribetsu is Hell Valley. Here, volcanic gas is emitted from the surface of the grayish yellow rocks and the surrounding air contains a strong sulfur odor. The valley is a burst crater with a diameter of 450 meters and the hot springs there produce up to 3,000 liters water per minute.

The northeastern part of the hot springs is the Noboribetsu old growth forest. Mixed with various hardwood trees, it has been designated as a natural monument. The Noboribetsu Bear Park is also located near the forest and is a place where visitors can check out the brown bears native to the area. Looking from the top of the mountains, Lake Kuttara can be seen in the distance.
