this hotel is not suit for kid. When i do the booking,i mentioned 1 adult + 1 kid 12yrs old. Owner should aware when they received my booking. However they still proceed to accept my booking.there never mentioned room with bath room nor without bathroom.very less details about hotel amenities.how can you expect 12yrs old boy to take bath by himself share with other male at onsen. I asked the owner if they have private normal shower/toilet but there is none. We checked out straight away eventhough we booked for 2 nights. The moment my son realised he has to share bath with other male at an onsen, his face was pale and worried. We felt cheated as the owner is not being honest. To reach this hotel you can board a bus (using nikko pass) and alight at shinkyo bridge. Walking distance from shinkyo bridge. Its a nightmare for my son. Suit for others but definetely not suit for family with children.

Most of the reviews are outdated so I thought I'd give an updated review. For one thing, there is WiFi (I have informed the landlady that the website indicates otherwise). This place is a traditional-style inn. You'll be sleeping in a futon (some Google-fu should help you know how to use one), use two pairs of slippers (one for moving around the house, one exclusively for the toilet) and will also bathe in a Japanese-style shared bathroom. The front gate and bathroom close at 10pm, which is not an issue as everywhere in Nikko closes early and it's too dark to hike outdoors (in early Autumn). We loved using the onsen to relax after a day of strolling around and hiking, and the delicious Japanese-style breakfast was lovingly prepared by a friendly old granny. The premises are old but well-maintained. Toilets, bathroom and onsen were great but we were there during off-peak season so we didn't need to share so much. Should we return to Nikko, this place will be our first choice!

It was a very traditional Japanese inn. It was a little old, but had a charming, tolerable atmosphere. The best thing about this place is its proximity to Toshogu Shrine; it's about a 10-minute walk.

The location is great; you can walk to Toshogu Shrine. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. It's an older inn, but it's clean.

We loved everything, Grandma's guesthouse is fantastic! The kaiseki tea is delicious and filling, the onsen is hot, the futon is incredibly soft—what more could you want? The location is even better.

The transportation is very convenient, not far from Shinkyo Bridge. The stay experience is very satisfactory. The dinner that night and the breakfast the next day are very delicious. You can wear a yukata to the bathroom to take a shower. The quilt in the room is very warm and comfortable. You can sit on the six-fold tatami to rest and watch TV. The two old ladies provide considerate and thoughtful service. It is worth staying again.

It is very close to Rizhao Palace. If you just want to stay for sightseeing, it is OK. The disadvantage is that the room cannot heat water, and there are public toilets and bathhouses. The advantage is that the breakfast and dinner are cost-effective.
