Had such an amazing experience staying at Shelter Garden Nikko. From the beginning ( booking of the free shuttle service) to the entire experience, feels very pampered and well taken care of. My mom was in a wheelchair and they are ready to help my mum wherever possible. The designer of the hotel was also around during dinner time and he took the time to speak with each table explaining his design his inspiration and also shared some photos he took around the hotel. Overall very very happy with the stay. Definitely will return for another stay next time!

Superb service and food. Stylish, clean and spacious room. Comfortable bed and shower. Dinner is a must try. Suitable for driving tourists as free parking is provided.

This concept hotel in Nikko had been on my radar for a while. The guest rooms and lounge, meticulously designed by the owner, Mr. Tomiyama, exude a depth you won't find in other hotels. It made for a uniquely charming trip, something big chain hotels just can't offer. It was also very educational, as the owner personally served our meals and chatted with us! If you prefer typical, pristine hotels or well-known brands, this might not be for you. However, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a travel experience that's a bit out of the ordinary! Finally, please note that the mountain view rooms do not have bathtubs, and there's no large public bath on site. So, if a good bath is a priority for you, this might not be the best choice.

Food and service are superb. I did not check our reservation of the shuttle bus clearly so caused some misunderstanding but the manager was really nice and resolved the problem with his outstanding service. Very appreciated and thankful! And sorry for our mistake! Food was the most recognised selling point of the place ! Keep it up ! The only weakness: The blanket was too thick for us and caused sleeping problem.

Nice hotel with mountain view and great foods (both dinner and breakfast are awesome!). Offer free shuttle to train station but need pre book one day in advance.

Everything was comfortable , maybe minor addition of a mirror instead of just one in the toilet. Also lighting could be brighter for certain areas as it gets quite dim in the evening . Dinner was perfect and they remembered my husband was a lefty and he wanted wasabi salt for his steak. That was a pleasant surprise, impeccable service and for the price we paid I think it’s a good value for Japan hotel standards

Lovely property with beautiful views from the veranda. Breakfast was very good. A bit out of the way, especially when one is out late, the drive can be a bit long.

Lovely setting. Comfortable beds and very quiet. The decor and food are a Japanese-French fusion. Dinner is an experience with multiple courses and beautiful presentation.
