The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection

My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Vanderbilt. I only regret that we did don’t stay longer. We loved how the hotel and our room was decorated. The staff were all wonderful, especially Elizabeth. Going above and beyond to accommodate my family and make us feel special and taken care of. If we come back to Newport we would definitely return to the Vanderbilt. Thank you for a wonderful stay
Hotel Viking

We've been coming to the Hotel Viking for the Audrain Concours for the last year. We can't wait to come back next Fall. We love everything about the hotel - the hotel itself, the restaurant, the rooms but most of all we LOVE the staff. From beginning to end our experiences have been wonderful and sooo much fun!! The front desk staff, the valets, the wait staff and bartenders and the bellmen are welcoming and friendly. We have breakfast and afternoon and night-time coffee, dessert and drinks at the restaurant and lobby bar. Hyechong, Sammy, Laura, Matthew and Kelsy took such good care of us all weekend, as did the front staff and valet staff. The hotel is beautiful and it's seriously the best location in town. We park the care and walk everywhere and take the trolley too. We spend 4 nights each fall with you and it's one of the best trips we take. The Hotel Viking cares about their guests and wants to ensure they have the best experience. They check in with you as you come and go and they cannot do enough for you! We highly recommend the Hotel Viking!!
Newport Marriott Hotel & Spa

We were disappointed in our stay. When we booked, we specifically selected ”water view” and the room was advertised as having 2 ”queen” beds. Although perhaps both were technically true, we certainly felt ripped off. The view we had was actually into the atrium where you could technically see the water through a window all the way across the atrium - a couple hundred feet away. The beds may have been bigger than full but were at least 6” less than a typical 60” wide queen. Since we paid extra for the view we didn't feel it was worth the price. The room out of that context was nice, but it had no complementary bottled water or coffee and at checkout we were told that was due to Covid somehow which made no sense to us. The walls were also pretty thin and it felt like someone was flushing the toiled right next to me while I was in bed. Overall it was clean and the staff was friendly but it was not what we expected for $700/night.
Castle Hill Inn

When in Newport, a visit to the Castle Hill Inn is a must, whether you sit in the formal dining room, the bar or the lawn all are worth a try. The service, food and cocktails are always great and even though it might be a bit pricey in my book it's well worth it just for the spectacular views.

I went to Gurney's when it was the Doubletree Hotel several decades ago. Well, imagine my surprise when I arrived last week to the same carpet and bathrooms. (WHAT?!) The visit was fine. Just fine. Gurney's is like a teenager who doesn't fully feel s/he knows her/himself and is trying on many hats. It advertises that it's a getaway for couples, families, and is a pet-friendly hotel. The toxic cocktail of dogs, oh so many dogs and young children and then adults who left their children, sigh, it just does not work. The DJ at the lobby was cute, but music permeated through the ceiling and walls and we were on the third floor. For hours and hours. Those dogs were barky from dusk until dawn, and those cute children's voices were heard and seen for days. (Can they all room in one area of the hotel? We were not the only ones who were affected.) It's sad; the view is spectacular, the skating is indulgent, Maureen at the restaurant? Top notch. But, Dear Gurney's, No one wants to pay to experience that twice.
