Very disappointed...arrived to find that to park in the hotel we had to pay a $50 valet fee...this was to park in the premises...absolute shambles the poor staff member checking us in had to leave the desk to take a trolley to load our luggage and then park our car....this was at checkin in time...no valet dedicated or luggage staff ...we got back and queue was nearly out the door with many frustrated customers...we ended up Coming down to get our own luggage do not sure why we had to pay? when we arrived no car parks our front or nearby so Don't be fooled by that either .., The thing is when I then read reviews on trip adviser this was a common complaint...management have not addressed... my husband was recovering from major hernia surgery ...cant lift anything more than 5 kgs...the option of parking 10 minutes away was not for us... but why pay $50 to park on the premises then be at the mercy of staff if you forgot something left of the car... was money grabbing ...luggage was not bought up we eventually came down and got our trolley ...rip off and not enough staff.., not 5 star Then in our room we really enjoyed... not... the band ftom the pub next door... once again when I read the reviews on trip advisor a common complaint ...no sound proofing and not addressed ...after reading the bad breakfast reviews we went to rydges st the waterfront....just a short walk away... So the staff are lovely but the management really need to sort out the fundamentals...parking, access to cars, luggage, lack of sound proofing etc... we probably won't we back as you stressful either the car thing ...this is stressful and not 5 star

Great stay at Rydges Newcastle. Awesome location on the harbour. Close to beaches and with ample dining options right on your doorstep. The only let down was the buffet breakfast. Not a great selection of food, and the staff were totally overwhelmed with the breakfast crowd. Food was very slow to come from the egg station and tables were left unclean.

2 days before 3 of us were due to stay at another property in Newcastle, (a 2 bedroom apartment), I was called to say the apartment I had booked (Nouveau on Young) had become unavailable due to the people in it extending their stay. Suffice to say that a heated discussion entailed and even more so when the only alternative they offered was a 1 bedroom apartment with a trundle bed in the lounge room for my 70 year old sister to sleep in, in this so called ”Executive Apartment” in a completely different suburb!! The only recompense the SMUG manager offered was free parking! OR of course the other option of cancelling our booking and getting a refund.... We had booked the other apartment 6 months before our stay as it is very near the Stadium where we were seeing a concert and obviously the whole of Newcastle was booked out by the time it came to 2 days beforehand. This apartment was ok, though not properly cleaned. The bedroom is small, the furniture is old and worn. The verandah not maintained. It certainly isn't big enough for 3 people to stay in comfortably! This company operates a string of properties in Newcastle and I would be wary of receiving any reliability, help, sympathy or recompense regarding your booking.

Awesome accommodation, amazing and compassionate staff (especially Demi). The rooms are always clean. There can be better rooms for the same price/cheaper elsewhere but I always prioritise The Lucky when booking as they always look after us. Additional bonus, they have a lift for accessibility.

The service from all employees was 5 star. All friendly and smiling nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were as you would expect for a QT Hotel and delivered a luxurious experience. There was no top sheet on the bed - which I found a bit odd - but each to their own. I stayed in room 211 and the only issue was a strong sewerage like smell when entering the room - but this dissipated after 5-10min in the room - but it happened each time I entered the room

We stayed here recently! Absolutely gorgeous! Super comfy king size bed, massive windows to look out at the city and lots of space as the room was much larger than I thought it would be. Lovely modern bathroom & kitchen that is well equipped, the little library on level five was such a welcoming place to sit and your staff were friendly, happy and accomodating - especially Laura! Add in complimentary bottle of wine and parking on site, definitely tops off a wonderful stay. We will be back! Thanks! Nicole & Paul

The first stop from Sydney to Brisbane, a very good hotel apartment. The front desk reminded that parking is free on the roadside from 5pm to 9am the next day. The facilities are complete, the sound insulation is very good, the air conditioning at the entrance and the music are all ready. Satisfied

I don’t usually review hotels because there are often too many negatives or the experience is just average. However, The National Hotel Newcastle stands out as a modern hotel that truly embraces 21st-century standards—something all hotels should aim for. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with the best mattress I’ve ever slept on in a hotel, and the pillows were perfect. I’m particular about cleanliness, and I was pleased to find no dust under the bed, thanks to the blocked-off design. There was a little dust on the bed board shelf, especially behind the iPad holder, but nothing major. The TV was large, high-quality, and had internet access, which is always a bonus. The blackout blinds and screen were excellent and operated with the touch of a button. The air conditioning worked well, though it was a little noisy at times, but not excessively so. The bathroom was well-equipped, with all the essentials and a good, hot shower. The contemporary art photography of the local area in both the room and throughout the hotel added a nice touch. The room offered a nice selection of complimentary coffee capsules and tea bags, along with a coffee machine, although the light in the coffee area wasn’t working (or I couldn’t find the switch). I also discovered a safe in the bottom cupboard and a luggage rack by the wardrobe, which at first glance looked like a folded ironing board. The hotel’s library area was a pleasant surprise—bright and open, with free tea, coffee, and three types of drinking water on tap. There were also USB points, charging sockets, and cubicles for private video chats. I appreciated the use of live indoor plants and original photography throughout the hotel. Another thoughtful touch was the drinking water stations located at various points, allowing guests to refill their bottles. The bar and restaurant area was also pleasant, offering a small but satisfying menu and a fully stocked bar. Additionally, the car park had several EV charging spots, making it convenient for electric vehicle owners. Overall, I had a great stay at The National Hotel Newcastle and look forward to returning!

For a hostel, the Newcastle Beach YHA is a great value for money. Location is perfect, 5 minute walk to the beach, right off the light rail from the train station and overall quiet (minus weekends). The vintage home has great curb appeal and is in overall good condition inside. The stained glass windows, deep couches and foyer/staircase are very comfortable to relax in. Kitchen is a little tired but overall in good condition and well stocked. Laundry worked well too and powder is available for sale. The bedrooms can get really warm and stuffy, even with the window open. And with no air con, summer would be hot here. Good storage with outlets in the rooms but the bed squeak and move around a lot of both bunks are filled. WiFi works well in the common space too. And the hostel has activities during the week, like a free sausage sizzle, which was fun. My only quibble was how well the WHV kids living there cleaned the place. Watching a few of them while eating or cooking, it seemed like a quick touch and go job. Kitchen doesn’t seem to be cleaned out regularly as I could smell rotting food regularly in the fridge. Would recommend it and would stay again, but if you want quieter atmosphere, don’t go on weekends.

GGuest UserThe whole hotel was clean, quiet, comfortable! Convenient location, easy access to restaurants, a lovely waterfront area. The staff was so helpful and positive. Frees breakfast was delicious and I can’t say that about most free breakfast. It was fresh, tasty, with good variety for everyone. We give this a 10 out of ten!

GGuest UserWe went for a short trip up to Newcastle and loved the location of the hotel. When we arrived we were not disappointed. We booked a low sea view room which was ok but the view was very good overlooking the beach. Room was not bad, bathroom was updated. Breakfast in the morning was a bit slow to come out and had to book a time the day before which wasn’t ideal. We were then double charged for our stay once when we booked and then again when we arrived. The receptionist asked for our credit card at checkin for deposit but charged us again. We only noticed when we got home and when we checked our statement. When we called they were not overly apologetic about this and just said they must of not read the booking notes during checkin? Overall stay was ok, hotel needs a facelift, service was below standard but location was great.

GGuest UserWe stayed in an ”executive suite” 4 children and 2 adults. This room was booked and payed for on behalf on an organisation as our baby was having surgery at JHH and we were traveling from a rural area. At the time there was a lot of flooding so our trip took 7+ hours in the pouring rain so we were so happy once we arrived. The facade and entrance are very nice and definitely give a feeling of luxury. Myself, partner and 4 young children were so excited as we don't get away often and when we do unfortunately it isn't for leisurely activities. When I approached the woman at the desk and explained we had a booking and it was already paid and showed the confirmation booking, she said yes she could see the booking but I needed both adult ID. That was no problem, went back to the car and go the ID and returned to the desk. Check in continued when she explained to me that the organization paying for our room had paid but not confirmed payment on the card so until that was done we could not check in. I went back to the car, called the organization and explained what had happened. She said that was no trouble at all and the email had gone through but perhaps to management not check in. So I returned to the foyer where the woman who had started my check in continued to check in 3 other people before me knowing I had 4 young kids in the car waiting, irritable, tired, just travelled 7+ hrs in the rain and hungry plus that she she had already started my check in. The other woman at the desk called me over to start my check in by which point the lady originally checking me in had no guests left to check in. She didn't try and pick up where we had left off but instead watches me explain the story again and then I call the organization to give approval of the credit card. Yes! Finally checked in! Although we didn't get the ” the bar is here, the pool is there, room service this, room service that, breakfast on this floor at this time” ect speech, all that was left out of our welcome. When we arrived in the room with our luggage and 4 kids under 8 in tow it seemed very nice and definitely somewhere we could unwind. However after checking through the rooms and thoroughly make sure there was nothing dangerous or harmful to the children (hover mum after another bad experience finding a used syringe under a mattress at a different motel) I notice a lot of discoloration on the toilet walls but didn't pay too much attention as we were going straight to find something for dinner. That night I had to prep my baby for surgery and fasting and we went to bed early after the long trip. We were up early and at JHH before 6:30am. Not returning until 4-5pm that afternoon when we met in the corridor of the 3rd floor by the original woman who had started our check in. She could even manage a smile or a nod not even a ”hello how's your stay?” She placed her nose to roof and swung her head all the way back. Not sure if that's because we didn't fit the brief of the motel, we techni

My son and I stayed in a twin room (219). Staff very pleasant on arrival and insist on using the self check in (and out) kiosk. Although it seems there is new carpet throughout this building, the room is in urgent need of refurbishment for this price point, averaging $200pn. The driveway was closed due to resurfacing for that weekend, but nothing was done at all and there are pot holes everywhere which reflects the interiors condition also. The toilet seat won’t stay up and flops on you whilst seated. Lack of power points. Advertised that the TV was smart and you could stream, but ours wasn’t so. Our window overlooked a concrete building full of graffiti. Although I left out the housekeeping sign, nobody cleaned our room for our stay. The hand towel ring was literally hanging by a thread off the vanity. I gave the 2 stars for the lovely, friendly staff and the buffet breakfast was lovely as well as reasonable value, discounted if booked the night before. It’s a shame the rooms were the letdown as this is the place you spend most of your time. The beds were comfortable and the pod coffee was a great inclusion. A reasonable position in good proximity to the supermarkets and take away outlets, but we needed to drive to restaurants.

If I could give a rating of zero I would! I've stayed in budget accommodation before but this was more like a dirty jail cell. Dirty hallways, the floor in our room felt like it hadn't been vacuumed or mopped for weeks. Tiny moulded plastic shower room that looked like it had been ripped straight out of an old caravan (you couldn't even call it a bathroom!) with a toilet and shower with no shower curtain so water went everywhere as soon as the shower was turned on! The sink to wash your hands was on the other side of the room. The pillows were yellow and brown under the pillowcases so we used our own beach towels as pillows. Our little boy had to sleep in our bed as there was a suspect looking brown stain on the sheets on the bunk above our bed. Oh and to top it off, there were no bath towels as they had 'ran out'! Needless to say we were up super early after our 1 night stay to get out of there. The poor girl on reception the night of our stay looked like she was ready to burst into tears after dealing with several irate holiday makers when I went to ask about the towel situation. Definitely won't be staying here again and will be telling others not to either.

Although they had a little trouble before the check-in, they were arranged very quickly. I plan to go there for two days at the end of this month. I just remind everyone to make a reservation online in China. After the order is confirmed. Be sure to check the password information of the room. There is no key in this apartment.
