New Hotels in Kunming

"The Four Points by Sheraton Kunming City Center is actually brand new, having just opened in May 2025. However, the building itself has a history, as it was previously the New Era Hotel, a landmark in downtown Kunming. After facing business difficulties and closing down, it was taken over and divided between Atour and Four Points by Sheraton. Four Points by Sheraton occupies the higher floors, with Atour taking the lower ones. Its location is truly in the heart of the city, bustling and vibrant, much like Beijing Road in Guangzhou. Large shopping malls like Kunming Department Store and Wangfujing are all nearby. The entire street is a lively pedestrian zone, making shopping and dining incredibly convenient. You'll spot it easily when you enter from Nantong Street. Upon entering, the reception counter is to your right, and a spacious lobby lounge with sofas is to your left. It's a great spot to wait if, for example, your car hasn't arrived yet. After checking in, taking the elevator to the eighth floor brings you to the amenity level. This includes a well-equipped gym, a bar, and the breakfast area. The bar opens to the public in the evenings, with mostly sofa seating that's nicely partitioned for privacy and comfort. The drinks are also reasonably priced; a cocktail costs just 58 yuan. That evening, I had a whiskey sour, and for 58 yuan, it was perfectly acceptable. It's a good complementary feature for a hotel bar. Moving on to the room, you'll find complimentary welcome fruit on the table. To the left of the entrance is the bathroom, complete with a toilet and shower. The room itself is quite spacious with a long layout and a single king-size bed. At the far end, there's a very comfortable armchair with a high back, not a sofa, where you can sit and overlook Nanping Plaza, taking in the entire Kunming city center. Next to it is a desk directly facing the window, perfect for gazing out when you need a break. This entire hotel is a renovated property, with comprehensive and well-appointed public facilities, contributing to a more comfortable stay. When I booked my room on Ctrip, I noticed it was listed as a five-star hotel. However, in my understanding, a hotel without a swimming pool is typically considered four-star. Still, you can usually book a room here for around 400-500 yuan. Overall, the hotel's location is truly excellent. The advantage of being downtown is convenience for everything, but the biggest drawback is potential traffic congestion. For tourists, however, this place is unbeatable. The pedestrian street right below offers evening strolls, snacks, and easy access to various attractions."

"I absolutely loved this hotel!!! First, I thought the airport transfer driver would be late or I'd have to wait a long time, but as soon as I walked out of the airport, the driver was already there. The car was big and very spacious. As soon as I entered the courtyard, I knew this place was a winner! You could tell how much thought went into the decor as soon as you stepped inside! There's a pond full of koi fish and lots of plants and flowers, which I adore. We were two girls traveling with two large suitcases, and the driver, who was a handsome young man, even helped us carry them to our room door. I booked a room with a small balcony, and it even had a hammock! Although there weren't any mood lights, it didn't affect the overall experience. The room was also very large and fully smart-enabled. Who understands how much I loved this place – I started taking hundreds of videos to show off how I only spent 200 yuan for such an amazing hotel the moment I entered the courtyard!!! I originally only planned to stay one day and then go to Dali, but as soon as I entered, I decisively extended my stay! I'll definitely come back to stay here after I finish my trip! "The facilities are new and very clean, and the room is smart-controlled, making for an excellent stay. The young lady on duty last night provided fantastic service! Thumbs up to her. There's a free airport shuttle, and it's great value for money. The hotel's laundry room on the third floor has two washing machines and two dryers. I also received a Yunnan flower cake upon check-in, which was a pleasant surprise! I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Kunming for a business trip."

"The hotel is very well located right in the city center. Most attractions, cafés, and shopping areas are within a 10–15 minute walk, making it super convenient for city walks and casual exploration. The lobby is a highlight — spacious with large seating areas that are great for chilling or hanging out with friends. There’s also a hot/cold water dispenser and ice available at the lobby, which was very thoughtful and convenient. The concierge staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They assisted us with all the Taobao items we purchased and even gave us a small leaving gift (a tea pack), which was a lovely and unexpected touch. The room itself was okay overall. Ventilation was good, but there were a few issues: the lighting and decorations around the spa tub showed signs of rust, and the one-time-use bathtub sheet broke during first use, with the stickers not sticking well. The bathroom is also very transparent — you can literally see everything, including when your travel mate is using the toilet, which may be uncomfortable for some guests. As for the smart devices, the 天猫精灵 felt a bit unresponsive compared to 小度, which worked better. We also couldn’t quite figure out how the curtains worked throughout the stay. Despite some room-related quirks, the excellent location, friendly concierge service, and comfortable common areas made it an overall good stay. Would still recommend, especially for friends traveling together who prioritize location and service over room details."

"An excellent hotel with complete amenities, including a negative ion generator and a body scale, which are usually not found in other hotels. Upon arrival, they also provide coffee, milk, and snacks. Plus, there's a complimentary pick-up or drop-off service to/from Kunming South Railway Station. The service is truly impeccable. If I ever come back, I'll definitely stay here again."

"All the hotels I've stayed at in Kunming have been great. I booked this one because it had such good reviews, and I wanted to experience it myself. It's definitely a new hotel, very clean, and the front desk staff were incredibly warm and friendly. The lobby manager even gave us a box of fresh flower pastries, which really made us feel the hospitality of the Kunming people. The breakfast had a huge variety, and the staff were very diligent, constantly clearing plates. In the evening, the air conditioning could blow both cool and warm air, so I slept very comfortably. Plus, you could even switch to a buckwheat pillow! I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Kunming, and I highly recommend it to everyone."

"A hotel that gets full marks for its dining. **Room:** The room is pretty standard, typical for a Hyatt Place. The size is a bit small, and the bathroom feels cramped. It's fine for one person, but I think it would be crowded for two. It's probably better to opt for a larger room type. **Service:** Standard service, everything you'd expect. **Gym:** The gym was converted from a suite, so it has very limited equipment. There's only one treadmill, and the metal handle in the middle of it has an electrical leak – I got a shock every time I touched it. **Facilities:** The hotel facilities are very new, and the elevators are fast. There's a slight smell of new furniture, but it's not a formaldehyde smell. I kept the window open throughout my stay. The lobby bar prices are reasonable. **Dining:** Full marks! I bought a hotel package that included a set meal, and the Yunnan cuisine was incredibly delicious and surprising. Definitely worth trying, highly recommended. **Location:** It's very close to the high-speed train station. The surrounding area seems to be part of the owner's health and wellness development, so there's not much else around. **Summary:** I wanted to give it four stars, but the dining was so excellent that I gave it five. If you're just looking for an overnight stay in Kunming South Station, I'd actually recommend the owner's other hotel in the same building. It's much cheaper, and I noticed they share many public areas."

"This hotel is located in a tall building, sharing elevators with two or three other hotels on different floors. The room itself was very nice and spacious, with a comfortable bed. It was clean and tidy, and had all the necessary amenities. The hotel is in a new district near the airport. There are many small restaurants and convenience stores around, but public transportation isn't great, and it's not a particularly bustling area. The hotel offers a convenient airport shuttle service, which gets you to the airport quickly. It's perfect for those with early flights the next day."

"The hotel's location is excellent, right below a commercial area with everything you could want for dining, entertainment, and shopping. It's also super convenient to walk to Old Street, Zhengyi Department Store, and Nanping Old Street. The entire room is smart-enabled. The staff are warm and attentive, and the hotel environment is clean and tidy. Highly recommended. Plus, there's complimentary 24-hour coffee at the lobby bar."

"I was very satisfied with my stay at this hotel. The location is excellent and easy to find, right next to Kunming Old Street, making it very convenient for shopping and dining. The room was spotlessly clean, and the bathroom had a separate wet and dry area. The front desk staff were very helpful; they even mailed back an item I left behind, which was very thoughtful. The facilities were comprehensive and new. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in the area!"
