Ruifang is the best base if you want to visit Jiufen and JinGuaShi by bus and Shifen, Houtong and Pingxi by train.
Do note the minshu (hostal) provides clean and basic facilities and is suitable for families and solo travellers. Walls are a little thin but Joe ensures he spaces out the guests whether he can. He is extremely helpful with tips on food & places of interest.

服務不錯，位置也很方便，附近就是車站，還有很多食肆，缺點就是沒有升降機，拿行李上窄窄的樓梯有點危險吃力，另外冷氣不夠涼，但整體還是很好的。

The bed is spacious and comfortable if you just want to sleep. There is also a laundry room, a shared refrigerator, and a kitchen. The only complaint I have is that the rooms on the road side have loud noises from cars and doors and other noises that echo. It's conveniently located near the station, so I'd like to use it again.
