Temple Hotel Daitai-ji is an excellent choice for staying, either as part of the pilgrimage of Kumano, or just on a roadtrip around Wakayama Prefecture. The host, one of the monks in charge of caring for the space, showed us around and helped us get settled in. The temple is nestled in a forest and is deeply quiet with lovely views of the night sky, and set in a basin with a great autumn sunset. Facilities are simple and clean. The room is airconditioned and the futons are comfortable. In the morning, you have the option to join the host for Za-Zen meditation, a relaxing way to wake up and prepare for the journey ahead.

We loved staying here! The atmosphere was amazing, the place was beautiful, everything was super clean and neat, and our host was very gracious: he took the time to show us around, tell us about some interesting historical details, and gave us some great recommendations. We only wish we could've stayed longer and hope to come back and stay here again someday!
