It was good that it was close to the central station. I was worried about the security, but I don't think I needed to worry too much. The room was not large, but stylish, and the facilities such as Nespresso capsule coffee were good.

Since I like to go on city tours, I like to stay in smaller or visually appealing accommodations. The name of the “Maison Schiller by Design City Hotels” also promises a design-filled stay. LOCATION: The location of the hotel is right in the city center or more precisely 5 minutes from the main train station. On the one hand, this is positive, as you can get to the city very quickly, but it also has negative sides: due to the proximity to the train station, the area is rather "drug-contaminated". In addition to table dance facilities, you can also find "beggars" or people who are "too drunk" every few meters... ARRIVAL: My arrival took place on a rainy day and I once again missed the check-in time of 3 p.m. Fortunately, the receptionist assigned me the room at 12:30 p.m.... VERY GOOD... Overall, the reception is kept rather small and visually also rather simple. ROOM: Since I booked a single room, I knew in advance that the room would be around 12 square meters small. The first impression is that it seems a little smaller than 12 square meters (subjective) due to the furniture. Next to the single bed there is a Nespresso machine with four capsules and a welcome water bottle in the room. Unfortunately the Nespresso machine was defective and didn't work. Even if you take a closer look, you can see some shortcomings in the room. The room itself is very dark and in my opinion there is no additional ceiling light. The hotel operator has remedied this with a parking light, which also no longer seems to be completely stable (wobbles a lot). But now to my biggest point of criticism and that is the very poorly insulated windows. Firstly, on days when the bed is cold, you notice a “cold draft” despite the windows and curtains being closed, which sometimes seems unpleasant due to the positioning of the bed. Furthermore, the window faces a not particularly nice looking backyard with the fire escape, which is equipped with a background noise that lasts until almost midnight. Because the windows are not insulated, you think you are standing in the middle of the hustle and bustle at this time... VERY BAD…. Here are my room criticisms: 1) Toilet was poorly cleaned (traces of previous user still visible) 2) Shaky parking light (doesn't seem “high quality” but rather cheap) 3) Non-insulated windows (clear draft noticeable) 4) Very loud and ugly backyard (dumpster) 5) Layer of dust on the water siphon (room cleaning?) 6) Broken coffee machine 7) Shaky reading light on the bed (quality?) 8) Quite loud ventilation in the room FRIENDLINESS: Some employees struck me as more “neutral” compared to other hotels. Greetings when entering the lobby (if I can call them that) seem more “repellent” than really “friendly” (in about 75%)... It's a shame because you don't really feel comfortable and welcome in this hotel... That CAN BE BETTER…. DEALING WITH CRITICISM: After checking out, I was asked if everything was okay, when I mentioned that I was not satisfied, the reason was not asked further... It seemed to me that there was no interest in how and what could be done better. Therefore, in my opinion, the question could have been avoided. CONCLUSION: All in all, I have to say you don't get enough for a “normal” price for a single room, which is around 80-125 euros (as of the end of October 2023). I have to say that the hotel has potential, but at the moment it looks more like “more appearance than reality” to me. Many points still need to be worked on in order to be considered a real “design hotel”. VERDICT: In my opinion, the single room is not recommended because I noticed too many negative aspects here... Unfortunately only 2 stars from my side...
