GGuest UserWe stayed for two nights, and each evening when we returned, it was the owner himself waiting for us. Later, we found out he's an architect specializing in ancient buildings. This guesthouse is his life's work, spanning over thirty years—from renovating the old house to arranging every single piece of furniture, he did it all by hand. At night, he'd sit in the living room waiting for guests, not just to watch the door, but because he couldn't bear to sleep. When he talked about the house, his eyes lit up. My son and his family's child also hit it off, and they even exchanged gifts before we left. The owner's son was especially generous, giving our child a whole bunch of things. The owner personally drove us to the station in his Audi. He dropped us off, waved goodbye, just like he was seeing off a distant relative. This guesthouse, the house was built by the owner, and the hospitality was nurtured by the whole family. After staying for two days, it felt like we had lodged at an old friend's house.

NNathalie KarmannWhat a nice experience. The room was exquisite. We loved the terrace. The seats were very comfortable and we had a great view. Cherry on top we could see a fantastic show at night. We could also enjoy the sight of the dragon boat at night. Bare in mind that there is no pickup from the train station. But you can take the subway and they'll come and pick you up. If your party counts 4 members, I recommend taking a cab or a didi (just like the hotel recommended us). That said, we were given free rides to visit the city. They can also arrange a car for you to visit other sites (paying service). We had huge and high quality towels as well as disposable hand towels. The toilet was a washlet like the ones we have in Japan. The hotel was very clean. Unfortunately, they were some remodeling going on on the first floor when we stayed there and the smell of the solvent was unpleasant. They did not have enough sitting to accommodate proper sitting for everyone but we took our breakfast up to our private terrace and enjoyed it very much. The breakfast is a set breakfast. We could choose between 2 types of Chinese breakfast. I can't say that I loved the breakfast but it was nice. You can arrange it with many sauces, condiments and plenty of fresh chives and cilantro. You can even ask for seconds. The butler was very kind and helpful, as well as the rest of the staff as a matter of fact. They also have a washing machine that you can use for free but you have to take care of the drying yourself. My family and I got sick from a previous food intoxication and we were happy that we stayed in such a nice hotel. Fenghuang old city is very festive so it can get noisy at night but the terrace's windows are of very good quality, therefore it did not bother us much. It is possible that you can hear your neighbors though. All in all, despite being sick we had a wonderful experience at this hotel. We were happily surprised to receive a farewell gift. We definitely recommend the place and we go back to this hotel without hesitation.

KKatherine DohertyWe had an amazing stay here. We stayed for my friends birthday and they did everything they could to make it special for her. We were upgraded to an even better room than we had booked and the view was incredible. We could see all the way over the ancient town. The hosts provided us with lots of information about where to visit, and helped us with booking tickets to attractions in the area. The best part of all was that I had inquired about having some decoration in the room for my friends birthday, and the hosts had gone above and beyond to put balloons, flowers, chocolates and fairy lights around. It was amazing, we could not have asked for more. Thank you for an amazing stay.

The location is fantastic, it’s just a short walk down to the river but far enough to not be annoyed by the crowds. You can also ask the owners for attraction tickets like Nanhua Shan Mountain, they can offer you discounts if you book through them. All in all a very pleasant stay!

The direct river view was absolutely stunning, the room was clean and elegant, and the facilities were brand new and complete. It was quiet and peaceful during my stay. The location is within walking distance to the heart of the ancient city, making travel convenient and easy. The owner was warm and attentive, responded quickly, and provided thoughtful, heartwarming service. Being able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Tuojiang River right from bed was wonderful – it's both a great view and a comfortable stay. This is definitely the top choice for a river-view room when visiting Fenghuang!

I looked at so many hotels online before my trip and instantly fell in love with this one – and I definitely made the right choice! Guli Mingyue's location is absolutely unbeatable. You can drive right up to the building, which is incredibly convenient for luggage, and it's just a few minutes' walk to Hongqiao Bridge and Wanming Pagoda. It’s a quiet oasis amidst the bustling town, making sightseeing and dining out effortless. The guesthouse boasts its own 270° panoramic viewing deck, offering breathtaking views. During the day, you can gaze down at the meandering Tuojiang River and the charming stilted houses. At night, the myriad of twinkling lights blends beautifully with the river scenery. You don't even need filters for photos – every shot is picture-perfect. The rooms are spotless, tidy, and warmly decorated. The bedding is soft and comfortable, and the soundproofing is excellent, allowing you to relax peacefully after a long day. All the facilities are new and smartly convenient, and there's even an elevator, which is a huge plus for elderly guests and those with heavy luggage. The owner is incredibly warm and thoughtful. They contact guests a day in advance to confirm arrival times, proactively help plan itineraries, recommend local delicacies, and are always ready to assist with anything – their attitude is super friendly. Plus, there are several adorable and affectionate cats, making it a top choice for cat lovers! The common areas are elegant and comfortable. You can brew a cup of tea, enjoy the river breeze, and watch the sunrise and sunset over the ancient city – the ambiance is absolutely fantastic. The value for money is exceptional, making it perfect for couples, families, or solo travelers. If you're looking for a guesthouse in Fenghuang with great views, excellent service, and a prime location, you absolutely won't regret choosing this one. Highly recommended!

GGuest User[Shuiyun Yaju Wubridge Store] - Living in a Jiangnan Ink Painting on the Tuojiang River The location is superb, right by Wubridge, much quieter than the Hongqiao side. Opening the window reveals the Tuojiang River, with views of Yunbridge and Wubridge. In the mornings, when the river is foggy, it's especially ethereal. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. Our third-floor river-view room offered an unbeatable view. The owner and staff are incredibly warm and helpful, offering pickup and drop-off services and providing local tips. Today, it rained, and they even drove me to the Maglev station, which I truly appreciated. If you love peace and quiet and want to experience the charm of the ancient town, this is the perfect place. It's convenient for exploring the old town during the day, and at night, you can stroll around Wubridge and fall asleep to the sound of the water. This is the slow pace of life Fenghuang should offer. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit.

GGuest UserThe hotel is next to the river, in between the double deck bridge where many people take photos and where there's a dancer in the middle of the river during night time. The balcony can see both. There was free hotel pickup from the train station and the hotel owner came to pick up us at the entrance of the city and help us carry our luggage to hotel. He was very friendly & helpful during our stay. Even the cleaning lady we met was very friendly in this hotel. We extended one night to this room as the previous one was already booked. Both room were very spacious with very good view from the balcony. We bought drink and food to chill in the balcony and for the view. I will surely book this hotel again if I come to Fenghuang ancient city again.

GGuest UserWe had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is great—slightly away from the main tourist areas, so it’s peaceful and less crowded, yet still very convenient. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, making it easy to find food and essentials. The hotel faces the river, offering a nice view, and you don’t have to drag your luggage over any rocky paths—the car can drive right up to the entrance, which is a big plus. We stayed in the rooftop room on the 4th floor. While there’s no elevator, the staff were very helpful and carried our luggage up during check-in and back down when we checked out. The owner and staff were all friendly and accommodating, which made the stay even more enjoyable.

GGuest UserPros: - nice room - clean - staff helped me carry my backpack to room and took me to where taxi pickup point was - location is centre to everything - nice views Cons: - at the top of a BIG hill (it says elevator is provided but it only brings you to the start of what are a VERY long climb of stairs to your room) - nowhere did it say the room would only be accessible via stairs (saying they have an elevator is very misleading), only because I read a review which mentioned there were stairs did I make a special request to have my bags kept at reception as I wouldn’t be able to bring them to my room. Even though I booked and made my request in advance (via Trip.com’s process when booking), they did not even read it so I had to deal with this problem once I arrived. - wiring in the shower (not sure if it’s save or not, but made me uncomfortable) - due to my tier level with Trip.com I was told I would get; late check out, room upgrade and free breakfast. When they checked me in and I asked about breakfast they told me that I didn’t have it included. After showing them I did, only then did they actually look at my booking - terrible. I then asked about the room upgrade as the hotel was not fully booked and they said that this was the room upgrade… it was not, this was the room I booked (which is fine, I just don’t appreciate being lied to when you clearly didn’t look at my booking). Overall thoughts: - if you only have one small bag that you can carry with ease, then it’s great - if you have large/multiple/heavy luggage don’t book here! You can get a day ticket to walk up the hill (where the hotel rooms are) for pictures of the view - Trip.com please get this hotel to actually look at the bookings made and to honour special requests and tier privileges where possible
