The motel front lobby had a nice setup upon arrival along with a simple check in process. Unfortunately we were not met with the same hospitality or friendly face at time of departure. My sister, husband, our son, and I traveled to WhiteCloud, KS for a ceremonial Native American event. My husband and son had planned to camp with our family at the event while my sister and I were going to stay at the motel. Due to a long day in the heat and being overtired our son started to feel ill. We decided to have my husband and our son go ahead and stay in the room. We arrived back at the room at 3am and did not want to disturb the owner at the hour of the early morning. Before checking out we began to load the car with our luggage and the owner came out very aggressive and approached us in a disrespectful manner about the two extras staying in the room. Before allowing me to calmly explain the sudden change of our plans and pay for the two extra persons stay, he escalated the situation by yelling. To the point our son began crying out of fear of what the man might do. I politely asked the owner “can you please refrain from yelling as our son is crying and scared due to your behavior?” Which he yelled “I don’t care!” We had absolutely no issue paying for my husband and son’s last minute stay, but were never given the opportunity to simply rectify the change and handle in a proper manner. My sister paid the difference as my husband and I calmed our son down from his heightened state of fear. Once we calmed our son, I returned to the front lobby to checkout and return the keys. There was no apology for his actions or scaring our son to the point of tears. Now trying to look at fun things to do to turn this day around for our family after such a horrible departure from Audrey’s Motel.
