I cannot even begin to say how much we enjoyed our stay. Great location for visiting local Hobbiton. Sue was an absolutely superb host - this is the absolute best place we have ever stayed in! It is one large house with three bedrooms, a living room and dining room attached to a kitchen, then Sue and her family live in another part. You feel like you are in a well loved home, but not that you are sitting in someone else’s living room - clearly guest only space which makes in comfortable and un-intrusive feeling. The photos on website do not do their rooms justice. All rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated, with a farmhouse feel, but also modern extras (plenty of unobvious USB charging points throughout rooms for instance). We arranged a time for breakfast and when we came into the dining room, we found yogurt/fruit, cereals and juice waiting for us. Sue then brought pastries, more fruit and then a full cooked breakfast. Quite honestly, the most amazing breakfast I have ever had! Sue will cook a dinner for you if requested (additional cost), or can provide a discount card for restaurant in local Matamata, which we opted for - a great idea so you can see local town and restaurant was a fantastic Italian, only 12 min drive away. She also had an honesty bar and drinks fridge in dining room for you to use. On the day we had to leave, we left room at 10.30 so it could be prepared for next guest, but Sue was very insistent not to make us feel rushed out. So we spent the morning reading and relaxing in lounge, which was prefect before our next drive. Sue even turned up with coffee and homemade lemon scones! We seriously cannot rate Villa Walton and Sue highly enough, and would gladly fly 28hours from the UK again just to stay again.

I had two units to accommodate myself and my teenage son and a separate unit for an elderly relative. The TV volume would not go past 20 as it was pre-set. This made it impossible to be used by my elderly relative. The owners spent ages trying to find out how to change the setting. Eventually they got on the phone to the people they were rending the TV from and got instructions on how to change it which was good of them to make that effort. The unit my elderly relative was in had a walk in shower with a fold down seat which made it extra safe. Considering there was road works right outside the unit the double glazed windows kept almost all of the sound out. Overall a very good motel and the attentive friendly owners never showed any annoyance at the many requests for assistance that they got. I really appreciated their patience. The pillows are a little large and solid. If you are a pillow fuss pot like I am you should bring your own favourite pillow if possible.

The hotel is very close to the airport, the restaurant is delicious, and there seems to be no advantages. There are many small hares and squirrels on the small lawn of the hotel. It is not bad to take the children to see.

Without a doubt, this was one of our best experiences. We had the pleasure of staying a few nights in early January, with friends who are visiting from the UK - we could not fault a thing. But, what really shows the superb hospitality John and his team turned on for us, was when we had to do a last-minute booking to stay again (late at night) because our friends had been in a car accident and been discharged from hospital. Not only did we get a bed, but John went over, above and beyond to help us in our hour of need. If we ever need to stay in Hamilton again - this will be our first choice. This was a very comfortable cottage in a rural setting just out of town. The cottages located close to the main house open onto a lovely garden. Checking in was easy and the staff very helpful. The only criticism we had was that the lighting in the bathroom was a little poor.
