Last year I had the most wonderful stay at Menina Colina, and was excited to return. Unfortunately I now wish I had reserved elsewhere, as it has been nothing but a disappointment. Prices are so much higher than a year ago, but I thought I got what was a good deal on the garden room. Turns out it is greatly overpriced for what is offered, as it has none of the exquisite design or attention to detail that the interior rooms have. It also seems to be neglected in terms of maintenance. The coffee machine was leaking, and after reporting it, it was made out to be my fault as I was using it incorrectly. I had to physically show a member of staff the leaked water for them to agree to replace it. I was really annoyed that they felt that they needed to demonstrate to me how it works rather than just replacing it immediately. The next disappointment was that the room was initially not serviced at all, and no explanation was given. When you are paying $165 for a mediocre room (not even including breakfast), one would at the very least expect the bins to be emptied. The bathroom also had a terrible smell that permeated the room, and mosquitoes were a problem too. Management did offer me lunch or attendance of their fado show, but none of these arrangements fitted into my busy programme. I thought a small financial compensation would have made more sense. That did not happen, and nothing further was mentioned or discussed on check-out. The final issue was the online check-out which they require. When I tried to complete it, my bill was for my entire stay, although 3 of the 4 nights had already been paid months in advance. So my conclusion is unfortunately that Menina Colina’s standards have dropped significantly, and that it is overpriced for the lack of attention to detail that is evident in several areas.

This is a lovely little hotel with delightful staff. The hotel is in a very low key area opposite the hospital but wasn’t noisy at all. It has been beautifully refurbished and the garden is lovely for a drink or spot of lunch. We stayed in the main hotel and also in the garden room which was spacious (slightly lacking in privacy as there are only light curtains covering the large glass windows). It’s exceptionally clean and the staff are real gems, especially Felipe who gave us great restaurant recommendations and was so charming and helpful. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will be back to stay here!

Beautiful place in the middle of Porto, walking distance to everything. Really enjoyed my stay and the relaxing peace and quiet on the balcony when having deadlines. Very friendly staff and good breakfast options. Minor minus points for coffee that in a country known for good coffee could be better. Excellent for those who appreciate architecture. Obrigada!

We stayed in their Garden House for a couple of nights and loved it! Very spacious compared to most hotels, beautiful modern interior, and a comfortable bed. The staff were very professional and accommodating. Best of all, the location is perfect for exploring Porto - most things are within walking distance!

Fantastic place to stay. The building has been beautifully restored while having all the modern facilities necessary. Our room was spacious, well-appointed and comfortable and, had the weather been better, we would have enjoyed the west-facing balcony (and the garden). Breakfast was just as thoughtful, our food was colourful, healthy and nicely presented. Everyone we met was helpful, efficient and concerned to make our stay enjoyable. 'Thank you' to them.

A renovated City Villa, well situated in Porto. The inner city is quickly accessible by foot, including sights, restaurants and bars. Parking is a bit of a problem though. The rooms are stylishly renovated and highly recommendable. The garden is very well kept and host to regular (about once a week) musical or literary events on the early evening hours. SItting on the rooms private balcony and listening to live music was indeed a nice event. The breakfast-buffet isn't very plentiful but you get served a freshly cooked warm breakfast in return.

Wonderful hotel in a grand old Porto house, beautifully renovated and the workmanship is superb. The staff there are some of the kindest people you could ever meet, and were happy to share the history of the house. The room had a view of the back gardens and of the city, yet was quiet. The window and balcony doors have solid interior shutters to block light and sound even further. Many restaurants, cafes, and bars are a short walk away. I found the bed comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. There were plenty of different lamps with lighting in a pleasant warm color temperature. A small kitchen with a fridge and complementary coffee was in the hallway, and some drinks were available for a reasonable price. Be prepared to climb the stairs, I was happy for the extra workout which I need but it may not be right for some. I would tell any of my friends to stay here.

We found this as a more affordable place to stay and are thrilled we did. A rescured, rehabilitated building at the top of the hill on the porto side. Unassuming from the outside, you step into old elegance once past the door. Don’t be afraid to unload while double parked (flashers on) , traffic goes around with nary a honk. We stayed in the apartmenton the third floor (no elevator, sorry) as it slept 4. Beds are very comfortable, linens are nice, and the bathoom had everything we needed. The breakfast needs to be ordered at booking, or the day before, but was lovely. The best cinamon french toast i’ve had, OJ, fruit, fresh espresso-made coffes, scrambled egg, and rolls and yogurt. All served with warmth. For us, the clincher is the back yard. It is green, lush, and peaceful. Coffee at one of the tables or breakfast on the (small) balcony is a delight. The quay is down the hill, probably a tem min. walk. Of course it is a 20 min. walk back up (we chose to take a cab having already walked enough hills). Wewould be happy to return.

We stayed in the suite on the top floor with our two young children - I kept telling my husband it was like my dream apartment...spacious and well laid out for four people and the architectural details were remarkable. Every room is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, they have a top notch espresso machine from which we had many great cappuccinos. The staff was so kind, flexible, and very sweet to our kids. And the river district/shops/win bars were all just a quick downhill walk. One of the best stays I've ever had anywhere.
