Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu

Minamioguni|0.15km from Kurokawa Onsen
It’s not a luxury ryokan and there’s only a few pictures and little info about the room. I don’t know what to expect but the photos taken by other guests around the property were truly beautiful. I stayed in the room “Shion” and it was one of the five (?) rooms that contained an en-suite bathroom. It looked like a dated traditional Japanese room in the hotel’s website, though I know that this ryokan was actually built and opened in the 90s, not an old property at all. It was located next to the nicely decorated coffee room, vending machines and close to the reception area. Dining place was just a little further. All connected under one roof. This is very important for us since it was rainy on the day we checked in. I was satisfied with the room’s decor. The room was more spacious than expected. Clean, cozy with a lovely scent of tea in the air. The in-room foot bath unique to this room was a nice touch and it was more convenient than those Kotatsu-style foot bath. We enjoyed it very much. The irori was not fired with charcoal but was covered. The arrangement is good since the charcoal fired hearth will make the room stuffy. I usually don’t like sleeping on tatami, but I slept soundly that night with the fluffy futon . Also I don’t hear any noise from the neighboring room or the traffic outside. This is not a top-tiered ryokan. You may well be aware that the number, size and quality of the towels provided cannot compare to those luxurious properties. There was no free mini-bar but just vending machines. The in-room rock bath was small and rough. There’s no butler, of course. If you have problem adjusting the temperature of your bath, you have to tell them before dinner. Dinner time is fixed at 1800 and you will certainly see other guests when you step out of your room. Nevertheless, our stay was comfortable. Staffs were polite and hospitable. The room was equipped with good heating devices, a fully automated toilet, a powerful hairdryer, and some good quality skincare, hair & body wash, which I wanted to buy. I was pleasantly surprised by these. The public and private baths were located in another side of the main building, where you need to pass through an outdoor moss-covered courtyard. We didn’t go to the public open-air bath but had checked out the private indoor baths, they’re rustic, just a bath & without any other facilities but looked interesting. Meals were served in a private room in the restaurant. It didn’t come with horse sashimi, crab, lobster or other sumptuous ingredients but it tasted good. The add-on premium Akashi beef, however, was not impressive. I decided to stay at a ryokan near the Kawabata street just because of the Yu Akari. However it turned out to be a very good experience though I still didn’t like to bump into other guests during my stay. Oyado Nishiyu is a great choice and the property has done a good job making their guests comfortable.

A more modern hot spring hotel has a different feeling from a traditional Japanese-style hotel. The service is not so good. The room is very large. There are two private soups indoors and outdoors. The dinner is full and delicious. The breakfast and dinner are relatively simple. But it is not bad. It’s a pity that I only stayed for one day, and I will stay for a few more days next time.

Staffs were super friendly and helpful. Free pick-up service from the bus stop. As we arrived before check-in time, the driver dropped us at the main street and showed us where to eat and how to walk back to ryokan. The ryokan kindly offered us early check-in. Luggages were in the room already when we arrived. Front desk staff explained everything clearly. We could only book the private onsen once. Private onsen number one is a bit small, and the water was not hot enough, but the view is pretty with a small garden and rock mountain. I love the large outdoor onsen (for hotel guests only). Water was hot. Beutiful environment and great atmosphere. Changing room was clean and spacious. The smaller outdoor onsen is for public. Room was a bit old and simple, but it came with a cute balcony which I didn't expect. Food was great. Dinner was served in room, and breakfast was served in breakfast room. Overall a great ryokan experience.

The Kurokawa hot spring of the source, the horse stab, the sashimi, the salt baking of the river fish, and the tenkara were able to enjoy the food of the place 々, and the fatigue of the work was healed. The dining room was also arranged side by side like a counter table toward the window, so it was good to see the scenery outside and not care about the surroundings. The large bath is small, but there are two places for guests and hot water, so I don't care about congestion. The washing place of the inner bath was cold because the door of the open-air bath was opened or the corona countermeasure. It is a hot spring area that wants to visit again slowly again in the hot spring town with the atmosphere, including the inn, but not old, and the surrounding area.

Very traditional hot spring hotel, the room is also the layout of traditional houses, the fragrance of the grass mat is fluttering as soon as you enter the door, and the corridor design makes living more convenient and reasonable. At night, the pillow of the Kurosawa River flows into sleep, and people with sensitive voices will mind a little. Choose a plan for a berth and two meals, Japanese traditional kaiseki, Japanese food can be full but delicious can not be talked about ~ The only regret is that the hot shower in the room has broken recently, and it was originally the one that I chose to have a private bathroom in the room. But the uncle of Chinese and Western people was particularly interesting. That night, I encountered a situation where the water pressure on the second floor was insufficient and the water was cut off. The emergency phone did not have the fake enthusiasm of the Japanese to delay, but the very field house people ”wait a minute” and hung up the phone and came in a hurry. I also took a cold shower and there was no water in the middle. Solve the guest's problem first. It's still a empathic understanding to have this episode. Another fat uncle was not very enthusiastic when he checked in, a bit cold and blunt, too many guests were too busy?

Excellent and hearty service: There was heavy rain at our arrival and departure. The staff helped to carry our luggage from main building to annex. Umbrellas were provided. Shoes and clothes of suitable size are provided immediately on arrival as we were soaked with rainwater. Drinks and comfortable sofas were arranged while we were checking in. Every staff wore smile on their face and helpful, reaching helping hands even before we asked. Nice food: Japanese style meal , tasty, nice rice and prickles , we were very full after dinner Nice onsen: different onsen to choose from, with suitable temperature. Free family onsen booking Escape from urban: nice green environment , eye catching for instagram.

Sanga Onsen is an extremely special place. The 4th stop on our 3 week trip to Japan and after lots of cities this is just the relaxation we needed. I rarely write reviews but this stand out Onsen deserves a raving review! Not only is the hotel beautifully kept with traditional Japanese charm and design, but the staff and extra details really go above and beyond. The food has been a real stand out point for us. It is exceptional. The presentation is beautiful and the variety of delicious course style menus we had across our 3 day stay is some thing we will never forget. The other small details we loved include the beautifully created gift shop selling local products, the delicious afternoon sweets delivered to our room to enjoy, the wooden tags marked with your room name given to you at the start of your stay ensure you know which indoor shoes provided to you at the start are yours! I must also say how incredible all of the staff have been. Nothing is too much of an ask and they were flexible with anything we needed whether it be a small menu change or an extra pillow or 2. Also make sure to check out Kurokawa Onsen Town. There are some lovely shops, bakeries and restaurants. Overall we have loved every second of our stay and really hope to be back one day.
