This hotel is right in the heart of town, with the famous cream puff shop directly outside. The intersection always has people sitting and enjoying sweets. The town is very tourist-friendly, with many benches along the road to rest your feet. There are even dedicated pavilions and foot baths for visitors to relax in. The private onsen on the upper floor is fantastic, with several facing a bamboo forest, which is incredibly relaxing. There's also a standing bath, with steps leading down, which is quite interesting. To get to the hotel's public male and female baths, you cross a small bridge within the hotel. Below the bridge is a stream, and sitting on the bamboo chairs on the bridge offers a unique view. However, the female private onsen requires climbing many steps, which is a bit inconvenient when wearing slippers. Dinner was served in the room, but the disposable chopsticks and wet wipes detracted from the experience.

The ryokan is right at the center. The bridge is 7-8 mins walk. The patisserie (cream puff) is just right across. Service is great. Staff can speak English. Food is tasty and more than enough for ladies and kids. Multiple private onsens make it easy to assess. Stairs might not work for ppl with mobility problems.

I had a great stay at this Kurokawa Onsen ryokan. The staff are very warm and hospitable and they have English speaking staff. I liked that this ryokan has 9 different options for a private onsen that you can choose from. These don’t require a reservation but are on a first come first served basis. The rooms were fine but walls are a bit thin which means you can hear outside noise more easily. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were good. This ryokan is in a good location right at the centre of town. They also have a shuttle service to get you to the bus stop at check out. Overall I would recommend this ryokan.

I enjoyed Fomoto Ryokan, it's very clean and the service are impeccable! They spoke fluent English! There are pick up and drop off services at the main bus stop if the timing is afternoon. Which is very helpful during the snowy winter weather.
The food are awesome
The 11 private Onsens are the highlight!
It's like a mini theme park in your accomodations where u explore once you check in, at night and the next morning.
I highly recommend anyone who are looking for traditional onsen Ryokan in Kurokawa.

Amazing food, stunning view and excellent services. Even though there is no private hot spring in our room, the hot spring in the hotel is very sufficient for your own usage. I would highly recommend this!

Nestled right next to the river, near the village center. Close to the main walking street and attractions. Traditional Ryokan with very good hospitality. Excellent outdoor onsen, with many smaller private onsen in the annex building. Cozy environment, a really good place to relax. The Kaiseki dinner was really good! The curated selections were great in taste, textures and varieties. Best night's sleep in our 7 day tour of Kyushu. Breakfast was good as well, followed by sightseeing around Kurokawa Onsen before checking out. Truly enjoyed our stay here, thanks to their staff. Great people, lovely place.

My favorite hotel on the trip! The overall environment is pretty quiet, and there are many private hot springs. The ********* staff lady was super enthusiastic; she even brought me medicine when I caught a cold and had a fever. The food was delicious too (though the wagyu I had outside tasted even better, making the hotel's wagyu feel like a rip-off in comparison).

This Japanese onsen ryokan has a real sense of history, and its location right in the town center makes it incredibly convenient for exploring on foot. The highlight is definitely the numerous hot springs, including a standing bath. You don't need to book the private baths; you can just go from one to another, making it unnecessary to buy souvenirs from other places just to experience their baths.
Service: The staff provides professional and courteous service, and they offer pick-up and drop-off from the station.
Plus, with a one-night, two-meal plan, the quality of the meat 🥩 is exceptionally high, offering excellent value for money.

This ryokan boasts a large variety of family and private baths which you don’t need to reserve in advance. It also has a very unique standing bath, and the common baths are quite beautiful. The dinner was delicious and it was way more than we could eat!

A fantastic ryokan with great family onsens, perfect location, and the loveliest staffs I can ever ask for. Their service is exceptional, from the moment I parked my car, to check in, to prepping our dinner and beds in our room. Everything was so well organised and everyone was so polite. Highly recommend for couples and families.

The ryokan has an excellent location, right in the heart of Kurokawa. The hot springs were great, and the staff provided attentive service. Ms. Chen from Taiwan was especially kind and always wore a warm smile. However, I personally felt that the meals didn't quite live up to the glowing online reviews.

The Japanese-style room featured traditional futon service, with staff setting them up in the evening and tidying them away in the morning. Dinner was incredibly generous, including horse sashimi and Wagyu BBQ. The complimentary pre-dinner yuzu sake was also excellent. The hot spring was quiet with stunning views. Definitely worth a visit.
