Midgham Hotels & Accommodations

We used this hotel as a base to go horse racing in Newbury. Our initial room did'nt have a bath,but the very helpful young man on reception moved us without fuss in no time. When settled we went for a drink in the bar.We had booked dinner for both days and were very happy with both the food and the service( Ramana and Steffan were excellent). Breakfast was also good with plenty of variety and re-stocked regularly. Well done to all concerned,we will return. As a side note, a taxi to the racecourse is between £12 and £15 each way and takes about 15 mins.

The good part: Staff are very friendly although check-in seems to take a little longer than Premier Inn, the reception area and seating to relax looks fantastic and the pizzas that the staff make 24/7 are absolutely delicious. The drink & pizza prices are reasonable. Location wise is spot on, just a two minute walk from the train station and central to everything. They provide more variety of tea & coffee in rooms, such as fruit & herbal teas, and decaff coffee, this totally beats any other budget hotel. Bad points: This is a cashless hotel & this is something i'm firmly against for a variety of reasons they lost £200 in sales due to this from myself & friends. The pillows are rock hard and kept waking up with a sore neck, the beds are also uncomfortable and feels like your sleeping on the floor. The noise from housekeeping is absolutely atrocious all you hear from several floors above and below, are the staff dragging large heavy trollies around and this goes on from 11am to 4pm if you need to sleep during the day forget it. The toilets smell of sewage & urine so sometimes you return back to your room and it stinks. There is also construction work ongoing Monday-Friday until Nov 2022 yet the prices are still very high. The cooling systems seem to work fine for an hour or so but then quickly the room becomes stuffy and warm, due to the location having the window open is very noisy especially at weekends.

Incredibly disappointed with my stay. Room was hot and smelt very strongly of Indian takeaway on arrival. Bedding had blood on it. Bedhead in poor repair. Bathroom door did not close. Outer window was impossible to close due to the position of the television set and the inner window frame. Shower clearly cleaned but smelt very musty. Room 205 is next door to the linen room. Staff used this room loudly after midnight at 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. talking, banging the door repeatedly, and shaking sheets out. This woke me up multiple times, and I did not sleep well. There were no hairdryers available, I had to go out and buy one. The lift did not work. My card to enter the building stopped working during my stay and needed changing, which was another inconvenience. None of this is the fault of the staff who were very pleasant. Perfect location with cafes and shops nearby, just a shame that the place isn't well maintained. There's bog standard and then there's this.

Wasn't impressed to receive text whilst abroad to say if we checked in late our room could be let. We were flying back and couldn't guarantee getting there at 3 pm. Had to get family member to call to explain. There are 2 Travelodges, one each side of the motorway. We booked the westbound one. Both have the same postcode. Our satnav only recognised Eastbound side. Result was they couldn't find our reservation. Apparently this happens a lot. Staff redirected us so only a few minutes and a few miles delay. Our arrival delayed by difficulty at Heathrow,ie Terminal change and over an hour and a half hours delay before passengers could access luggage reclaim. Staff shortages. Arrived at nearly midnight. Only Costa open at services. However, staff at hotel helpful. Situation good and quiet despite proximity to M4. We were very pleasantly surprised. Room clean and plenty of space, bed comfortable, coffee-making facility welcome. Bathroom fine and water hot. Slept really well and plenty of choice for breakfast with services placed only a few yards away but not causing any noise problem at the hotel. Enjoyable stay. Pity about postcode confusion Maybe explanation to take westbound services turnoff given on website when booking would avoid confusion and save people being taken to the eastbound site. We were worried when satnav told us to pass westbound services but assumed hotel was approached by another turnoff shortly after. It would have made our arrival far less fraught to have been aware of the fact there were Travelodges BOTH sides of motorway. The hotel itself was good and gave us a comfortable night.

On the outside this travelodge may not look so appealing, however on the inside it is big, clean, cosy. When walking into reception you have the vending machine which has snacks in for your late night craving! So easy to use as well. Room was very clean and tidy. I have to say we had exceptional customer service from Sanjay at the reception! Would come here again

We have been to this hotel before, but this time we saw a sign saying that swimming will incur £5 pp charge. I was gutted that I was not advised, as the receptionist said this new policy took place 2 weeks ago. BUT, when we went to the pool, the clerk told us that if you booked from a different provider (trip.com etc) you have a complimentary pass to the pool. If only we knew the first day. But really happy overall.

Stayed here Friday and Saturday night for Newbury races so very convenient being 2 miles from racecourse and right in town for the evenings. We also chose the hotel for breakfast and free parking- no complaints. Breakfast ran until 10am. The room was spacious and clean although outdated but it was good enough for our stay. We had a rubbish first night sleep as we were on the Oxford road side and the car sounds feel non stop, also closing of the pubs time is very noisy. We were then woken up very early by the light, the curtains don’t even cover the windows. They need double glazing and blinds! Pretty similar second night sleep so was looking forward to coming home to my own bed which is a shame. The floor was so creaky we were woken up numerous times by other people in the building especially from upstairs. The bathroom door had to be slammed to close so that would of been heard by neighbours. Our room was not serviced on the Saturday although we placed the sign on the door and cleaners were on the level as we left. We were out from the morning for over 7 hours. This was a shame as would of liked water and tea/milk replenished and clean mugs. Check out the red lion pub for some Mexican food, it’s unreal and unexpected! 5 min walk.

Lianna on Reception desk was simply a star so helpful professional and friendly as was everyone on reception desk. The Spa was lovely and the treatments were divine Sarh is amazing. Unfortunately The restaurant staff let the hotel side down Very embarrassing unprofessional and quite frankly what service. Was left waiting to be served and for our drinks to come. They didn't tend to ther tables people came in waited yo be served took so long they left. One server before our food has come had the check to ask us yo pay the bill as her shift was finishing and would be easier for her to do it now she hadn't even been serving us. When our food finally came mine the supreme chin was dry the potatoes were hard overdone My friend had the tuna which was served well done she wasnt asked how she'd like it cooked she also asked for chips on the side which didn't come with her main she had almost finished meal by the time chips finally came out Very disappointing However the change-over staff they were lovely it's a shame we didn't get served by them. Had a lovely lunch at Donnington Valley Hotel on 14th May. Can highly recommend the Burrata, Plum Tomato Salad, Basil, Breads sharing starter The roast beef was lovely (although my husbands was very fatty, but I think that’s just the luck of the drawer with how the meat is served) there were plenty of fresh seasonal vegetables, that came in a separate bowl and steaming hot which was great. Dessert was amazing, highly recommend the Lemon Tart and raspberry sorbet, it was delicious. Waiting staff were super attentive. Thank you very much.

We enjoyed The Lodge, it is a very different location and feel. Based next door to the Premium racecourse at Newbury with the jockeys medical room and the various management offices including the stewards and Jockey club, and the empty stables. Opposite us was a couple of very impressive stands, and very upmarket hospitality suites. In spite of this we had a very quiet nights sleep. Our room was warm - there is no aircon. The room is just very user friendly and has a bathroom with shower, but the double bed is large and comfortable. Good breakfast and extremely helpful front desk staff.
