My husband and have stayed at The Stamford Plaza times many times over the years and have always loved it, but this was the first time bringing the kids, as we wanted to treat them to a special night out in the school holidays. PROS - The pool and spa were the highlight of our trip. After reading some previous reviews about the water being too cold we were a little concerned, but they were both absolutely wonderful. The pool area was clean and the pool was lovely and warm. The spa was perfect and HOT - just the way we love it. My children LOVED the glass elevator, this was a real thrill for them and they are already asking when we can go back to go in it again. We did meet some lovely staff during our stay, and check in and check out was fast and easy. The room was nice and clean. There is absolutely no view of the city lights (we were looking out onto a wall) but this is just due to the location and can't be helped. The central location is fantastic. CONS - No valet - I'm sure this was a service that used to be offered in the past? Our bags took nearly 2 hours to be delivered to our room, and this was time wasted that we were planning on heading out to explore the city. They only arrived after several follow up calls asking how much longer they would be. We only had 2 towels (and no robes) in our bathroom, even though our booking was for a family of 4. When our bags arrived, we asked the gentleman to please provide 2 more towels for the kids but they never came. We ended up needing to take 2 extra towels from the pool area back to our room. Our 'Indulgence Package' included a bottle of wine which we were told would be brought up to the room. This also never came and I needed to ask for it upon checking out. The real let down though was the buffer breakfast, which was included in our package. We have stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels and this was possibly the worst breakfast we have come across - I wouldn't even rate it a 2. The coffee machine was broken, and there was no service asking if we would like a fresh tea or coffee. My son had the pancakes (pre-made sitting out with the bread) and he said they tasted stale and crumbled in his mouth. The hot food (eggs, bacon, tomato, hash brown) were all stone COLD - not even luke warm. I considered asking if they could pop my plate into the microwave to heat them up but lost my appetite wondering how long it had been just sitting out there. And the fresh fruit was dry and looked like it had been sitting out a long time. I wish we hadn't taken take package with breakfast included, as we could have had a hot breakfast for much less $$ from the McDonalds just around the corner. Our package also included late check out to 12 noon however our keys did not allow us entry back in after 11am. OVERALL - We would stay at the Stamford again however I think they need to advertise it for what it truly is - a 4 star hotel. We have stayed at many 5 star hotels in Melbourne such as Crown Towers, the Langam and the H

It's only a minute's walk from the subway station. There are many bathrooms and Internet access. There is a coffee street nearby and a shopping mall is a five-minute walk away. You can stay here again next time!

Gem of a hotel in Melbourne, with all the facilities you'd expect, pool, bar, food, access to parking next door, in the heart of the city without being too busy. The staff were exceptional and the nice touch's made our visit, just that little bit better. Complimentary drinks, chips, lollies, pretzels etc, was a welcome change. All in all, a memorable visit for my 60th birthday.

Gorgeous stay at this lovely hotel. It was my birthday and it was great to be able to check in early when we got there just after 12 noon. Our room was fantastic, the bed and linens divine and the bathroom huge with lovely gels, soaps etc. We had booked afternoon tea and it was superb with some more unusual sweet offerings. Cocktails and a cheese platter later that night when we returned from seeing some Comedy Festival acts capped our night off beautifully. We had a late checkout so plenty of time to enjoy the fantastic breakfast with everything you'd expect to be on offer. It looked like there was a delicious make-your-own pho-style soup for vegans available too. The staff were terrific. A number of them had little badges on that advised they were in training but you'd never know - service from everyone was polished, pleasant and efficient. Truly service to a high standard worthy of this lovely property. Yes, there's a big building site next door as a new underground station is being constructed - dont let that put you off, you'd never know it was going on once you are inside. No doubt that this is our new favourite hotel in Melbourne - a truly polished but warm and friendly offering to high standard.

We stayed on floor 4 room 10 Saturday night. We arrived at 2.10 and our room was not ready (we had just driven 4 hours) The guy at reception said about a half an hour and he would call us when it was read We went for a walk and watched some footy. 3.10 came and still no phone call so we called the apartments and the guy said the room would be ready in 10 minutes.   When we checked in we were not asked anything about vaccinations as per your email sent last week We went upstairs got organised, 4 of us sat down to have a drink, most of the flute & wine glasses were filthy, some still had remnants of lipstick. We also did not have a tea towel. I took 3 of the dirtiest glasses down stairs to get replaced, he could only find 1 clean glass. 3 were brought up later on but were about to go out I have attached a couple of photos of the apartment, appalling absolutely appalling. Lots of water damage bathroom and the floor outside the bathroom is all uneven and and all of the carpet was pretty disgusting We had the room with the window, the lane was very noisy so not much sleep, then early hours the garbage's were emptied with mostly bottles smashing and woke us up Very disappointing stay to say the least

The good, the bad, and the ugly. The ugly. We stayed on the second floor with a laneway directly behind our room. Very regularly, every night, there was a loud sound of compressed air escaping from a vessel of some sort which reverberated in the confined space between buildings. It was loud enough to wake you up if you weren’t in a deep sleep. You could hear it over the TV and other background noise. The time interval between the compressed air escaping was about the time it took us to ALMOST get to sleep. By the third night we were sick of the lack of sleep and went to a chemist to buy earplugs. Although they helped, they didn’t block all the noise from the compressed air. But we were SO tired by then we finally got to sleep. The bad. The bed wasn’t too bad, but the pillows were just about ready to put outside for the dog to sleep on. One had a bit of ‘body’ left in it, the other was completely deflated. Had to fold in half to get my head up high enough to keep my neck from aching. (At least the pain in my neck distracted me from the air compressor noise!) The rooms aren’t serviced. The room smelt a bit ‘enclosed’. Like the wardrobe smell you get in a cupboard you haven’t opened for a long while. Carpets could have done with a steam and perfume? It wasn’t bad enough to cause concern though. Just an indication of the level of service. Bathroom mouldy. The good. The motel was very central, which was very handy. Trams practicality on every corner. 720 restaurants/bars/cafes within 500m radius of motel. The one staff member we met was very nice and friendly. There was plenty of steaming hot water in the shower.
