Just back from a four night stay at the Meikleour Arms. What comfort and contentment. Hollie and Adele on reception, Diane and all the housekeeping staff, bar and restaurant staff all gave us the warmest of welcomes. What a wonderful team, making the whole experience really special. Meikleour estate is beautiful. We stayed in one of the well appointed, spacious, spotlessly clean Stables cottages. From the log burner to the huge, enclosed garden it was exactly what we hoped for. The pub and restaurant are really special, offering a cosy and relaxed setting. We had three evening meals; all faultless. Standouts were the seared cod, steak, fish and chips, and the ‘pillowy’ gnocchi. Our Australian Labradoodle was made to feel at home and he absolutely loved it! Don’t miss the great river and woodland walks from the door. Couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you to everyone at The Meikleour Arms for helping to give us a much needed break. We’ve booked our return visit!

Sadly having to write this review - went here for lunch on 21 April - from minute sat down felt rushed by staff who made clear we were in a timer. Plates for main course being cleared before one of the party had finished by 3 members of staff for a table of 4? Told had 5 minutes to choose sweets. Several times near end of meal asked to hand over my water glass . Said no a couple of times because was wanting another glass of water out of the bottle provided - eventually gave in to get peace - then table cleared as if we weren’t still sitting there. Now the food - chicken was nice and tender but had burnt coating, Yorkshire pudding dry giving impression not fresh and sticky toffee pudding over done in microwave. Not sure what went wrong but left feeling pretty hacked off at the experience and we are people who are generally easy pleased.

We’ve just enjoyed the loveliest stay at Meikleour staying in one of the Walled Garden cottages. Beautiful property in a fantastic location with great walks around the estate and down by the river. Total relaxation mixed with fantastic food and friendly, welcoming service. We couldn’t have asked for more. In fact we could probably have asked for less - food that is! After a four night stay the fantastic breakfast and dinner menu had us beat! High quality food, lovely menu and the most accommodating of restaurant staff - thank you for a fabulous stay.

Came to this hotel to meet with family from Inverness so were looking forward to a lovely catch up and nice night away. We were a party of four plus one fur baby. Upon check in we arrived 1 hour early and thought we would see if there was the possibility of the room being ready. We were meant with a cold and sharp response that no rooms in the full hotel were ready. This was at 3pm. My family who arrived 30mins early also received the same response and frosty reception. When we did check in one of the staff started feeding my dog loads of biscuits without my consent and I had to politely ask her to stop. She did not know the temperament of my dog or if she had any diet issues. When we checked into our room we did have to go around the room with wet wipes. We were disgusted with the fluff and stickiness to the tv remote especially! Before and after dinner we sat in their lounge which was lovely. The price of the food menu and drinks menu is very overpriced for the quality which you received. For breakfast we ordered a full cooked breakfast. The sausages tasted very unusual and we ask the waiter if he knew what kind they were. He said he didn’t and we asked if he could find out which he gave a tut and eye roll to. Found out they were gluten free. Strange to serve gluten free when neither of us have a gluten intolerance. Overall leaving the hotel we had had a nice time due to company but knew we would not return. We were in total shock when we received an email to say that we were being charged an additional £25 for mud paw marks on the bed sheets. We called the hotel to explain that we returned to our room and my dog put her front paws on top on the duvet sheet. Something which dog owners will know is part of having a dog. We did not realise her paws were mucky when entering the room. She is a small to medium size dog so the paw prints were small. We were told that it is in their policy that additional charges would be occurred for exceptional cleaning circumstances. I would not deem this to fall into that category. The receptionist said she would speak with management regarding our dispute and contact us back. You could imagine our surprise when my mums card was charged the £25 and we had no contact from management. I emailed the hotel regarding this also to let them know that I had left a bottle of perfume in the room if they could look into this. After several days of no contact I called again and was told they would be in touch. Two days after this I received an email from the owner Claire. She stated that we should not have had our dog on the bed, quoted their policy, said my perfume was no where to be found and that it was unfortunate that my dog misbehaved and we were left disappointed as a result. I could not believe an email like this would come from an owner. I replied that if she had spoken with staff she would have known the dog was not on the bed and the event that caused the marks. For an owner of a “dog friendly hotel” to say my d

My husband and I found this hidden treasure on our way from Edinburgh further north and stopped for lunch. We had a very warm welcome from the delightful Antoinette. Charming decor and superb food…I had the burger with Isle of Mull Cheddar and hubby had the moules frite. We had friendly service also from the lovely Hemma…we will most certainly come back for a stay!!

We stayed in one of the cottages in the village which was exceptionally clean, well appointed and the open fire was a real treat with an endless supply of logs. Toiletries supplied were gorgeous, bed linen immaculate and cottage really quiet and cosy. The breakfast was fantastic, plentiful and relaxed. Staff were very attentive. The walk through the estate to the river was perfect for dog walking, running and relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay,

Dropped in for refreshments later afternoon and was immediately taken by the ambience, clean decor and welcoming staff. Driving I had a Diet Coke and for a treat I had wonderful carpaccio of beef. Spotless toilets and a definate destination for a visit later this year - perhaps even for a staycation.

Arrived at restaurant and we were greeted by girl behind bar. Told her we had a booking to be told come with the shake of her head . Were sat in restaurant away from bar. The hotel and restaurant is lovely in itself. We get that it’s a fishing lodge and country hotel and dogs are welcome. Most dogs were well behaved but one in particular would not stop barking as other customers were arriving with their dogs. Not a nice quiet meal and not good press for said country hotel. ( At least 6 times during our hour and half visit this dog barked) My hubby had a lovely starter of black pudding scotch egg . Then steak pie for main I had sirloin steak which was good. Chips ( bought in ) were absolutely awful so much so I said to a lovely wee waitress and she got them replaced . Menu not brilliant. Won’t be rushing back. Meikleour used to be the place to go what a shame that standards have slipped.
