Kena Beach Hotel

I spent almost 2 weeks in this beautiful hotel. I do recommend it to anyone who likes to have a quiet time at a quiet beach. Everyone at this hotel is so attentive, especially Sarah from the reception. She's a real delight! :)

Very welcoming staff, really beautiful garden along the rooms, pool in the shadow to refresh when it’s hot (really nice!), good variety at the buffet restaurant (changes daily), very welcoming and motivating animation team directly at the hotel :) highly recommend!

A superb location. A lush garden with plants, flowers and fountains, with access to a beautiful beach. Big and comfortable rooms. Great staff and great food. Quiet location but with interesting daily activities. Diving center and a nice shop.

Amazing place and accommodation. There was not a single fault with the hotel. The food was sufficient. Everything clean and very nice staff. There was a security guard on the beach. I felt safe. If anything happened, the hotel dealt with everything immediately.

I will start with the good things. We stayed at the Kena Beach Hotel for 5 nights. Our room was lovely and spacious, kept very clean, with good aircon and a fridge and a turndown service each evening. The pool was nice, and plenty of pool recliners as well as recliners on the beach. Service excellent and food was fine, if a bit limited in choice in the evenings. However, our experience of checking out was very poor. The morning of checkout would require an early start (7.30) to get back to Stone Town for a 9.30 ferry departure. We checked with the office the evening before and were assured reception was 24/7 and someone would be able to assist. At 7 there was no-one. A person came about 7.10. All we needed to do was pay the accommodation balance plus our food/drinks. I had paperwork showing the balance of accommodation. What should have been very easy took 50 mins including calls to managers. Our taci was waiting for 20 mins and we nearly missed the ferry. Worse yet, at the time of checkout the first credit machine appeared to fail so they used another. After checking I found duplicate transactions (for quite a bit of money) on my card. I emailed hotel. No response. Called. Was told they were busy and would call me back. No call back. Whatsapp messages - received but not read. Have had to go to bank to arrange chargeback. This is not the behaviour of a trustworthy business, and certainly is not good service. Thus the one star rating

We stayed at the Kena Beach hotel between December 19 and 29, 2023. The hotel and the garden are very beautiful, clean and well maintained. The rooms are large and offer all the conditions. The staff is very friendly and well trained. We also celebrated Christmas at this hotel. Everything was wonderful and well organized by the hotel manager. Everyone was wonderful but Elizabeth, George, Grace, Ramadhani and Khalfan made our holiday perfect. The food was very good and very carefully prepared by the chef. We had many fruits and delicious sweets prepared by Chef. The service was impeccable. Also the recreational activities were great thanks to Kani and Momo from Oclub, who were sensational. The hotel's private beach is wonderful, supervised and well maintained by the hotel staff. Mr. Kombo, who lives right in Matemwe village, organized some memorable trips for us. We want to return to Zanzibar and obviously, we will spend our vacation at this hotel again. We recommend the hotel to everyone who wants a perfect and peaceful vacation.

As part of our honeymoon we stayed around a week in Zanzibar in this lovely hotel. Room was very nice and clean. The beach is quite interesting (but not easy interesting), huge sea level differences between the high and low tides (~2-2.5 meters). Lot of sea urchins, we never went into the water without water shoes! I suggest to go in a couple of hours before the high tide and come out with the high tide. Every day we snorkelled 1-2 hours. I cannot say anything bad even if I was forced to do so! Lovely, friendly, helpful, basicly everything good that you can imagine, that describes the employees there. The best thing there was the food. Unbelievable good taste every day! We will never forget those days spent there! Thank you! Asante sana!
