April 2026
I arrived at the guesthouse following Google Maps. The entrance to the guesthouse is very difficult to find. Not many people in the area seemed to know about its existence. I kept knocking on what seemed like the only possible door, and a young man who didn't look like a staff member appeared from inside.
In what seemed like the lobby, it became clear that this young man was a staff member. He briefly checked my passport, I paid the accommodation tax, he gave me the key, and showed me a piece of paper saying to call a certain number if I had any problems. After that, I suspect there are no staff members permanently stationed there.
The room was reasonably clean. The facilities weren't great; there was no refrigerator, no body soap, and the biggest problem was that the shower barely had any water. It was more than a trickle, it was a drip, and I had to run it for about 5 minutes before any warm water came out. It was extremely difficult to manage with this dripping shower.
There was only one bath towel, and they wouldn't change it unless I asked.
The noise from other rooms was also quite loud. Depending on the time of year, you might be woken up early in the morning by the loud sound of prayers (the Quran?).
Breakfast is served late, starting at 8:30 am. However, they were accommodating even when I arrived early. It consisted of bread, jam, butter, orange juice, etc. It was mostly carbohydrates, but each item was reasonably tasty. I ate on the rooftop terrace, which made for a refreshing and pleasant morning. There were also several cats in the dining area.
Checkout was the typical "just leave the key in the locker" type. When I asked to leave my luggage, I was told to leave it there and was directed to an empty area that looked like the front desk. Valuables cannot be left there. Fortunately, my luggage was safe.
