The Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club

A brilliant experience at the hotel. Not only the hotel is amazing with great facilities (gym with 12 different rooms, spa relaxation/recovery suite, 25m pool) but also the people are super friendly. If you are a runner like me, there are like 5 different parks in the area to run around or simply go for walks. Tram station is 10 minute walk and tram services in Manchester are very good so you can get anywhere you want. At the hotel everyone was super friendly and they were all very helpful, but Taylor and Owen have stood out to me. Amazing service, well done! Oh and they serve an amazing coffee! I don't think I'll ever be looking for a different hotel when coming to Manchester. Here is all you need!

Having submitted my allergy list a few weeks before our booking and seeing that there were so many gluten free, vegan options, I was excited to be able to join with my friends in celebrating the baby that’s about to be born. Imagine my disappointment when the waitress only went through my allergies (I know it’s an extensive list) at the table in front of friends, not all of whom I’d have liked to know about said allergies. I was hoping for a simple meal and enjoyment of afternoon tea. This did not happen. I was given gf bread that contained egg powder - that I’m intolerant to. I agreed to it because I already felt awkward. I was also given a plate of fruit. And then offered another round of sandwiches. Quite frankly I was shocked and appalled. I was left feeling very isolated and excluded from my friends who were all enjoying their delightful cakes. It’s not difficult to create sandwiches and cakes and scones to my allergies. I do it often. I even offered to pay extra because I know I’ve got a lot. But honestly having to pay £30 in the middle of a cost of living crisis for sandwiches and fruit and being excluded from my friends was ridiculous. I was very disappointed. The waitress was lovely, and double checked everything. The atmosphere was great, it would have been a perfect afternoon if I’d been catered for. But I wasn’t. And I found it quite unbelievable to be honest. I didn’t say anything during our time at the tea room, because I didn’t want to ruin my friends day. But I will not be returning to The Midland because of this terrible service. Photos of everyone else’s afternoon tea, then mine.

I’m literally sat typing this at 3:03am because I can’t get any sleep. - When I arrived, the 2 members of staff working at reception were arguing with each other and the girl who served me was in a foul mood (unprofessional) - The bed is uncomfortable - Charged £7 to use wifi for one night stay (most hotels offer it in the package) - There were hairs in the bath from the last person (during covid-19 pandemic) - The soap dispenser in the bath was empty - The hotel seems to be used as a hostel for some people to live in and as it’s after 3am, I can still hear people with the TV on in their room loud. - People chatting outside whilst smoking. It means when I open the window, I smell the smoke and risk setting the fire alarm off. I didn’t realise it was a Britannia hotel. I’ve had shocking experiences in these hotels before but until you get here, you don’t realise as the name isn’t obvious on the booking. If I’d known I’d have avoided it.

We only stayed for one night me and my partner, we arrived late and wanted to go out to eat. Great location, walking distance for everything you need from bars to restaurants from Brazilian to Thai food or British pub food. We pushed our luck being late and the man on reception was brilliant and his service was fantastic and recommended some lovely places. After a long day our room had everything we needed, walk in shower, robes, super king bed and room service. We skipped breakfast and booked the pool for 9am which is included and was just perfect, the reason for our stay was to do the tour of old Trafford and the hotel certainly made our trip more worth while.

Stayed for 2 days. Requested a room with a bath tub by email. Was told an accessibility room will be provided. Said I did not want an accessibility room and it was confirmed. Got to the hotel and was given an accessibility room due to upgrades not being available. Then noticed the room air conditioning was not working even though a member of staff looked at it. On the 2nd night the hotel staff moved us to another floor. Apparently they were aware of complaints with the air conditioning but did not say or do anything about it. The staff were good with resolving the issue but were not proactive in avoiding the issues.

Stayed over for two nights for a work meeting. My room was ok and thought the toiletries provided were really nice. A few of my colleagues said that their rooms had low ceilings and found it a bit tight. The food in the restaurant was nice and I really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding! The location itself was excellent and suited us perfectly. Special mention to Tulika at reception, she was very welcoming and made the check in process really easy. Well done Tulika.
