The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, very calming. The room we had was a mini suite and was lovely. It had two bathrooms both with a bath which is very unusual. They were a little tired but very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The weather was gorgeous so we were able to sit on the terrace and watch the local wildlife. The food was ok but a little disappointing which was a shame.

Ahh wonderful location with beautiful grounds… We had afternoon tea there which was really lovely…. The staff are friendly & efficient… the sandwiches were very tasty in fact we could have done with around round!!! Only us being greedy, the sausage roll was yummy and the cakes very pretty…. I recommend this venue for a memorable afternoon.

This is quite honestly such a beautiful hotel with the most amazing grounds, our little doggie loved running around sniffing all the bunny holes and exploring. The long drive up to the property is just perfect then you approach the hotel and it’s stunning. Our room wasn’t ready so we sat outside and had lunch and a glass of wine which I must add was not ridiculously priced, very good value. All the waiters and waitresses were very polite and helpful, except the girl on reception when we asked if our dog was allowed off the lead over on the grassed area, she thought about it then said ummm no because of the sheep, we were no where near the sheep who were behind a fence as you drive up the drive. When we went over the grassed area there were dogs off the lead just having a great time running around, in fact I didn’t see one dog apart from inside the hotel on a lead. We had dinner in the bar area because we had the dog, it was fine, even though it was busy we didn’t get forgotten, dinner was lovely and again very good value. Unfortunately now the negative part. We was in the Reynolds which was a great room having a dog with us, ground floor and opened right onto the grassed area. It was a huge room with two bathrooms, unfortunately it is right next door to a courtyard where there is a room to hire for parties, this particular afternoon/evening there was a 40th party so it was quite lively outside our window in the courtyard with people dancing and screaming right up till 12oclock, the music was extremely loud no way could we sleep till it stopped, I get the rooms for hire and people will book but put someone from the event in the rooms close to the noisy area, if I’d had known I’d have requested a different room. Then when we finally did get to sleep I had ants crawling on me, they were in the bathroom on the dressing table, on the skirting boards and on the window ledges, basically everywhere 🫣so based on the latter I would not book again even though the hotel and grounds were one of the nicest we have stayed at.

Went a family function here for a special lunch for about 30 people in the orangery Service appeared to be a bit hit and miss and course's not arriving correctly Staff were lovely and the food was excellent ,when it arrived. We felt a bit rushed towards the end of our meal as there was another function arriving shortly and we're ushered into the lounge and then told to go to another lounge as the next function wanted the first one The hotel was very busy The building and the antiques were fabulous,it was raining all day so we couldn't walk around the gardens and lake as planne

The hotel impressed on arrival with long winding drive through parkland leading to an imposing stately home main building. Check-in was quick and a young porter took our heavy bags to our upgraded suite. The very spacious bedroom was traditionally decorated with 4 poster bed, couch and antique furniture. The extensive breakfast menu was prepared to order with the warm waffle with banana, greek yoghurt and maple syrup the stand out dish for us. The restaurant delivered a fine dining experience. Customer service throughout was friendly yet professional with a special mention for Matt who went above and beyond.

We enjoyed a one night stay at Chilston and once again had a relaxed and enjoyable visit. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to the Gilt room that looked over the lake. The room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We had our dinner in the Culpeper restaurant and were looked after by Ellie,Ella and Harry who are a credit to the hotel being friendly, engaging and helpful. Credit has to go to the chef and his team for providing our meals that were excellent in terms of quality, quantity and presentation. We enjoyed our breakfast and thank you to Morgan who waited on our table. Chilston is a special hotel with staff who are fantastic ensuring a relaxed stay.

My wife and I recently visited your venue for afternoon tea and were extremely disappointed by the overall experience we received. To begin positively, the location itself is beautiful. The building, grounds, and dining room were all of a very high standard, and we were initially very pleased with our decision to visit. Unfortunately, the quality of service fell far below basic expectations. The staff serving us appeared young and inexperienced, and it was clear they had not received sufficient training for the standard your establishment aims to present. After our tea was served, we had to request milk separately, which arrived several minutes later. I then had to ask again for a spoon to stir the tea, which also took several minutes to arrive. Shortly afterwards, the server began placing spoons on surrounding tables, suggesting this had been overlooked during the initial table setup. The food itself was also disappointing. The sandwiches appeared to have been prepared well in advance, as the bread had already begun to dry out and lacked freshness. During service, another table was being cleared when a member of staff accidentally dropped plates, causing food to spill onto the floor. Accidents happen and we fully understand that. However, while another server assisted with removing the broken crockery, the food itself was left on the floor. Other guests were then escorted through the dining room and had to walk past — and effectively through — the mess, which remained there for the duration of our visit. To make matters worse, we were disappointed to find that a service charge had automatically been added to the bill despite the poor level of service we had experienced. We strongly believe gratuities should reflect the quality of service provided and should not simply be assumed. Overall, while the venue itself is excellent, the service and food quality did not meet expectations, particularly for what should be a premium afternoon tea experience.
