Luzern Youth Hostel

Probably my experience at this Lucerne Youth Hostel branch wasn't the best — though it certainly wasn't bad either. I suspect that was partly because I was coming directly from their Zermatt branch, where I had an absolutely amazing stay. I should also mention something I forgot to include in my Zermatt review: at the Zermatt Youth Hostel, they offer the thoughtful option of a lunch box if you can't stay for breakfast the next morning. The cook there made me the best sandwich ever 😍, which I enjoyed after my hike to the Matterhorn — with a Matterhorn view, no less! I think that's such a wonderful gesture for travelers. I asked about a similar option at the Lucerne Youth Hostel, but they didn't offer it, which was a bit disappointing. The breakfast also lacked any fresh veggies 🥗. I hope they might consider implementing a lunch box service; I believe early-bird travelers would really appreciate it. On a positive note, I really appreciated that they had an iron available at the reception — that came in very handy. That said, I didn't find the facilities particularly comfortable or cosy overall.

Really nice hostel. Breakfast was veryyyy nice!! Beds were nice and comfy. Unfortunately did not have a kitchen for hostel users to use though, only a microwave + kettle, no cutlery. Had to pay €20 refundable deposit for key to use the fridge. No elevator. Checkin closes at 9pm which is a bit inconvenient. Location is a bit far from the station/ city. Needed to pay a refundable deposit for the lockers too.

Efficient services. Would definitely recommend this and come here again. If you know you know. If you don’t know you don’t know. But I wish you know

This hostel felt like going to a summer camp, all noisy and with lots of companies there. At night though it was rather peaceful, but really hot due to no air conditioning in the room. Lots of convenient lockers for a deposit of 2 CHF that you get back after opening it. Showers too were as if I went to my old dormitory campus, closing with just curtains and no light in the stall behind them, but at least there were plentiful hangers and shelves. Location is pretty far but reachable with a bus, so having a free bus pass was handy (although nobody ever asked to show it). Breakfast was great, lots of choice. For being probably the cheapest option there for a solo traveler, it was really okay.

The staff were great and accommodated our last minute delayed check in.

The hostel were not flexible to accommodate us on our arrival time so I have to booked one night from other hotel. Booked 2 nights here but only able to use one night because of what I just mentioned above. Bed allocation was not properly managed and no clear instructions for the beddings stuff. Not happy with this hostel and I’d rather pay more at other hostel
