Hotel Monopol Luzern

The location is incredibly convenient, right next to the train station. Downstairs, there's a McDonald's and a Starbucks, and it's close to the bridge for easy access to boats heading to Mount Rigi. The only downside was the curtains didn't block out much light, so the room was quite bright at night. The evening I stayed, Spain won their semi-final match, and the street below was filled with fans honking horns and celebrating, which was a bit noisy.

The location is incredibly convenient, right across from the subway exit! There's a McDonald's downstairs and a convenience store opposite. It's also very close to all the attractions! The triple room was huge, and most importantly, the air conditioning was excellent, so we weren't bothered by the European heatwave!

Upon checking in at the hotel, I was informed that I needed to check in at another affiliated hotel instead. This meant I went from a hotel right next to the train station to one that was a 5-minute walk away. So, I can't comment on the original hotel at all!

The room was quite spacious and the location was great, but there weren't enough staff members, so check-in took a very long time. The parking fee was also ridiculously expensive... over 300 RMB per day.

The location is excellent, right outside the train station. However, it was under renovation during my visit, completely covered in scaffolding. Overall, it was still very good; although an old hotel, it has been renovated.

I booked a double room, but the hotel gave me a room facing the train station. Unfortunately, the entire side of the building was covered in plastic sheeting due to renovations, meaning no sunlight and no fresh air. Paying 2600 (without breakfast) for a room like that, even in the off-season, was unacceptable. The booking page didn't mention any potential issues! So I contacted Ctrip customer service, and honestly, they were really helpful. The hotel didn't have any equivalent rooms to switch to, so I asked for an upgrade. To my surprise, the hotel wanted an extra 200 Swiss Francs?! So, to get a room with an opening window, I'd have to pay over 4000 a night? That's ridiculous! Luckily, Ctrip's customer service quickly escalated the issue and resolved this unpleasant stay to my full satisfaction. I've attached detailed photos of the rooms before and after – even the upgraded room (photo 3) only had a tiny window with no curtains. I'm shocked this hotel has such high ratings; I just feel like I've been ripped off. The overall facilities are very old. The only redeeming qualities are its location directly opposite the train station and the Starbucks/McDonald's downstairs. I definitely won't consider staying here again!

I initially thought the location was very convenient. However, during my two-day stay, my room key or elevator card malfunctioned every single day, forcing me to go to the front desk for a replacement. I also found out that our room was the only one that hadn't been updated with the new system (not sure why they put us in that specific room). So, definitely make sure you get a room with the new system!
