Kawada Hotel

The hotel's location is great, and there's a parking lot next door that only charges $10 a day, cash only.

The room was small but had a kettle and microwave, and the hygiene was good. It was convenient for heating up supermarket food. Access was easy, with the subway station just a five-minute walk away. It's only two stops to the Walt Disney Concert Hall and art museum, offering better value for money than the DoubleTree by Hilton.

The room isn't huge, but two suitcases should be manageable. The bed was incredibly small, almost impossible to even turn over in. There's a microwave and a fridge in the room, and a washing machine on the third floor. You'll find a vending machine on the first floor. The room was cleaned daily and kept very tidy. The biggest downside, by far, was the soundproofing – I was woken up several times each night. The air conditioning noise was also an issue. Other than that, everything else was fine, and it's conveniently located near several metro stations.

The room was tiny, but the location was superb. It's a three-minute walk to Angels Flight and Grand Central Market, and five minutes to The Broad Museum. There are four subway stations nearby, making it convenient to get anywhere. The male staff at the front desk were helpful and easy to communicate with, but the female staff were generally quite stern. The street noise at night was very loud. If you're a light sleeper, this might not be the place for you.
