Montcalm East, Autograph Collection

London|2.34km from Canonbury
We stayed at the Montcalm east this weekend - a group of 4 ladies away for a weekend to see a show and shopping. We couldn’t have wished for any more from the hotel. We chose the Montcalm east as we wanted to stay in Shoreditch rather than Mayfair where we have stayed previously and we were so happy with our choice. Shoreditch itself was vibrant, energetic and full of so many interesting places to eat and things to see. It also seemed quieter than areas we have previously stayed and this was welcomed. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the reception staff greeted us in a professional and friendly manner and the concierge helped us with taxis throughout our stay and one young man on the door went above and beyond to help us which we really appreciated. We had an adjoining room on the 14th floor and all of us were extremely impressed with the modern style of the rooms, the decor was sleek and stylish, the bathrooms bright and spacious with a great big backlight mirror which was perfect for us when getting ready in the evenings. The beds were comfy and the whole hotel itself was immaculately clean. We also used the spa one morning and thought the Dyson hairdryers were a great touch, the showers agin spacious and quality amenities provided. We had a relaxing swim and used the day beds and it was a great way to relax in the morning. The breakfast was perfect, a good choice of cold options plus cooked breakfast, eggs any way you want them, fresh juices and coffee. We even had waffles one morning and they were lovely. We thought the location of the hotel was perfect for us - only a short taxi or Uber ride to London Bridge for our return journey and within walking distance of great little funds like box park - we thoroughly enjoyed it there. Overall we couldn’t fault anything about the hotel, a 5 star modem and trendy hotel in a great location - we will be looking to come back at some point in the future to explore more of what the area has to offer I’m sure.

Nobu Hotel London Shoreditch

Shoreditch London|2.7km from Canonbury
Let me start by saying I have eaten at Nobu (Mayfair) more than once and have been fortunate to spend a lot of time in lovely hotels across the world. So, on the upside, the hotel is very nice! Friendly tip - spoon shaped key needs to be inserted next to bathroom door to activate electrics. I had a chat with concierge and they said that figuring this out in ten minutes put me in top 10%! On the negative, service is really not good. Very slow check in. 10+ minutes from point of arrival to get key. And trying to extend stay by one night was painful. Two trips both in excess of 10 minutes each. Breakfast service was terrible. I had to tell server (who was relaxing at the back of the restaurant) that there were no glasses left for juice (there were 8 people in the restaurant at this point). It took more than 15 minutes to get a coffee. Saw table next to us was offered a la carte menu. No idea if that was an option for us as never offered. When toasting my bread I could see employees shouting at each other in the kitchen. When checking out I was told there were extras on my account. I asked what. One was service charge for breakfast. It was a buffet! I asked them to justify and was told it was optional. This left a bad taste as I am sure most travellers do not even notice this. Overall, wanted to love this place but overall sense that it is just cashing in on Nobu name with no substance. However, big shout out to concierge on night of 29 May. Great guy

Islington Inn
3.1/558 Reviews
We stayed at the Islington inn on the 19th august we booked 4 rooms, we were all a bit sceptical after ready the awful reviews!! But when we arrived a very friendly man at reception welcomed us all 4 rooms were on different floors and can honestly say apart from them being very basic and slightly tired looking we were satisfied. The hallways were not full of abandoned items like someone else had said they were all hoovered and clean, the bed sheets were crisp and clean and the beds very comfortable, fresh towels in the bathroom all wrapped and fresh the bathroom smelt very clean nice fresh bleach smell. We had a great sleep we were facing the main road there was no noise for a Saturday night and the blackout curtains were great. All rooms had a fan which was great and kept us cool. All in all it was a great overnight stay and we will definitely be returning it’s in a great location and a perfect base. It’s not a 5* hotel as I said it’s basic and tired but not as bad as some make out there’s also a lovely cafe just up the road from the hotel called favourite cafe that does a great brekkie.

Had a pleasant stay at Kingsland Locke. The receptionists were all very welcoming and friendly, and allowed us to change rooms as we booked the wrong type of room initially. The only issue we encountered - our room was not cleaned by room service daily. Other than that, it was a great stay!
Citadines Islington London - Europe
4.4/570 Reviews
My husband and I were very happy with our 5 night stay at Citadines Islington. Our room was spotlessly clean, quiet, and very well appointed in terms of layout, the comfort and quality of the bedding, and furnishings for the kitchenette. The facility itself was very well appointed from the spacious lounge area with complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a small bar to the well equipped exercise room and convenient laundry room. The location is superb, hidden in a quiet square yet just steps from all that the Islington neighborhood has to offer from restaurants to shopping to easy public transit connections. The hotel staff was uniformly friendly, welcoming, and helpful in response to our requests for suggestions about the neighborhood.

Staff were amazing and attentive when issues arose. Booked the king size room which was large and spacious but that’s where the good parts end. - Air Condition did not work (Told reception when we got in at night and was given a fan) - Mini fridge did not work, so gave the food we bought to amazing receptionist - lamp in the corner was not plugged in, had to move the table from the wall to switch it on. - Bathroom wasn’t wiped down properly so you could see the residue of the last guests. Besides the amazing staff who helped and gave good local recommendations for bars and restaurants the quality of the hotel was lacking. Would not be staying again.

It’s alright, not great. Location is a little sketchy and there’s no real check in. The dude talks to you via text/WhatsApp, so it feels less professional than one would like. He did offer to try and fix a problem I had with bookings by offering another location which was nice, can’t knock his effort to help - but the price he was offering was a little too much for a ‘single bed and a mattress on the floor.’ I was away in London, I wasn’t gonna sleep on the floor after that long-ass train trip 😂 The bed was in the attic/loft and I kept hitting my head as ceiling was low, and I’m not particular tall. The smell of the building is pretty nasty too but luckily room smelt fine. Check in was pretty bad, no one would answer the door, I rang the guy and he said he’d ring the housekeeper. She answered and was very sweet, there was a language barrier though, she told us 2nd floor on right hand side but it turns out we were top floor left hand side. Not her fault, I’m a patience and understanding guy so I thanked her and continued the evening. Upon entering the room there was food under the sofa and a headband on the floor so instantly my girlfriend’s skin was crawling. Ever had an upset partner whilst on holiday? Yeah proper headache. 😂 It’s a little too expensive for what it is, but it’s semi decent, an alright location. Just wish they hadn’t charged the £7.50 cleaning fee, as I don’t think a wet mop on the floor and nothing else counts 😂 I’ll probs book again but only if it was the last place I could find! Not the owners fault though, as it seems he’s not there too much to check. Do, with this information, as you wish.

Very friendly welcome and all staff were really lovely, especially Adriana. We had an attic room with a great view of the park. Very small room but well designed and perfectly adequate for me and my daughter who went to a gig at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Staff gave us good transport tips. Shower, kettle tea, coffee and comfy beds ...all we needed. Nothing negative to say as we knew it was a budget hotel. Breakfast was good. Exceeded my expectations as previous reviews were negative but I would stay again for the price.
