Portugal Boutique Hotel

Baixa Lisbon
I arrived at the Hotel Portugal on August 21, 2022 early in the in the morning for six nights and seven days. Staff was welcoming, professional and friendly. I had complimentary breakfasts during my stay and was able to have a nice breakfast at the hotel upon arrival. My room would be ready by mid-morning so after having a delicious meal, I took my first walk into Lisbon. I returned shortly after to settle in my 2nd floor room. I was given a really beautiful and quiet room (room 209) which was a good size, modern and classic room. The room and upscale bathroom had high ceilings, quiet air conditioning and a beautiful decor. The room was nicely designed and very comfortable with a large king size bed. It also had a flat screen television incorporated in a large circle mirror on one wall. The room had ample storage for hanging or putting clothes away in large wall cabinets. It was well thought out, fairly new, spacious and elegant. Room service was excellent and the room was made up during the afternoon. It was very comfortable and clean and it was a pleasure to return to it at the end of the day to relax and to have good night’s sleep. The buffet breakfast included with the room had a standard plate of fruit, cheese and thin slices of ham, plus a small delicious Portuguese tartlet. On top of that, you could order your choice of many things, including eggs, bacon and fruit yogurt. It was a complete and delicious breakfast that was served on the main floor in a nice dining area inside or on the beautiful and relaxing enclosed outside hotel terrace. The hotel was nicely and centrally situated with a short walk to major streets and squares like Rossio Square and Rua Augusta. From those areas, you had access to major points of interest in this beautiful and photogenic city. The city and surroundings are truly amazing, the people nice and friendly and the views are spectacular. Getting arround is easy just walking or taking a cable car or train. The hotel also offered access to a nearby roof top bar and terrace which was really perfect at the end of the day to relax, cool off and admire the views of the city. Finally, the entire hotel staff was professional, really helpful with advice on visiting Lisbon, gave other useful travel information and always got you a nice table for breakfast on the terrace. Everyone was just so kind and friendly. It made all the difference in my stay at Hotel Portugal. I want to especially thank Cristiana at the front desk and Dulce at the breakfast restaurant for their great service, attention and overall kindness. The hotel entrance was also welcoming with a friendly and helpful door man who always had a nice greeting and gave good advice and service. The stay went by quickly as the city of Lisbon and nearby coast, mountains and beaches are just incredible. I took 1000 memorable pictures during this great trip. Again, the staff was awesome. This city boutique hotel gets great reviews and I can understand why.

Rossio Hostel

Baixa Lisbon|0.06km from Rossio Square
This is our second time at Rossio Hostel - we thought it the best hostel we'd ever stayed at in 2019, and now it is even better. Not enough words to tell you everything great about it - though if we boil it down to two words it would be THE PEOPLE who work there are what makes it amazing. Sunday Fado night is not to be missed - when we were there Rossio brought in Jessica Fernandez, who is an amazing singer and she was backed by two highly skilled guitar players - one on classical guitar and one on the Portuguese guitar. Pizza night on Wednesday also included a cover band that was a lot of fun. Aside from all this Rossio Hostel is in a fantastic old building from the late 1700s/early 1800s (post-earthquake) - lots of character. Rossio sits right on Rossio Square - a very central part of Lisbon with the metro and trains right outside your doot. Now, as to what makes Rossio Hostel really stand out - well, that is the people. A big thank you, and kudos, to the staff at Rossio: Madalena, Leavis (hope I'm spelling your nake right my friend), Rita, Paula, Mackayla (also hoping I get your name right), Victoria and especially Elsa who cooked up amazing scrambled eggs and crepes Monday to Friday. I didn't catch the name of the weekend cook - also a big thank you to you and the young lady helping you on the weekend. There are other staff that I didn't have a chance to get their names. The staff at Rossio Hostel make you feel like you are at home - my partner and I also felt like we were part of their family for the six days we were there. The big downside to Rossio Hostel is when you have to leave - the staff make it really hard to leave, because they make you feel so welcome and at home. We've been there twice and we will absolutely be back. If there were a way to give a rating higher than 10 we would certainly do it. Thanks again to everyone at Rossio Hostel for making our trip so special and memorable. The front desk of the hotel was very warm and very standard: I signed a document when I copied my passport. I also specifically told me that the reason for signing this document was because I had to copy my passport and take it in another hotel to let me sign = =. From the hotel, not far from the Marquis de Pombal Square in Lisbon, then go down the city to the city center.

Hotel location is very good, about 300 meters from the train station. There are many shopping malls and restaurants nearby. A seafood restaurant is recommended. PINOQUIO is very delicious. We had two meals there during my stay at this hotel.

The hotel is located outside the city center by about 2km. This is not an issue since Uber's are so cheap: typically 4EUR to Rossio etc. We had a very nice room that overlooked the park and was very comfortable with en-suite. The only (minor) complaint is that the hotel room-safe was malfunctioning and there were no USB outlets ... perhaps management might like to buy some USB hubs. Our rate included breakfast which was excellent with a wide choice of hot and cold buffet items. For some reason, the machine coffee always tasted sweet so we reverted to tea after that. I suppose, for those reasons, I could drop a star and give it 4* instead of 5 but why be churlish? We'd certainly stay there again. There is a subway station down the street, by the way, but you have to go around to Pombal (circle) to enter. An all-day subway ticket was 6EUR after you'd bought a travel card for 0.5EUR on your first trip (only available at subway stations). With Uber being so cheap, we didn't bother but the more budget-conscious should know that this is a good option.

Perfect, close to everything, we made almost all walks, restaurants and places to take breakfast nearby, the most remote walks/destinations gave to use the metro, others because not being served by the metro we use the bond and/or bus , these are well filled, I recommend taking Uber, it is not expensive and it is worth it for convenience to reach the most remote destinations. The only inconvenient, always has one (smile) at least, was the acoustic isolation between the apartments that were in different floors; on my apartment there was a family with some children who were running in the apartment during the night (sleep a little later than my family), the noise/vibration of the footsteps in the upper floor was very disturbing, but soon it stopped when everyone was going to sleep, did not compromise the stay, but it can be a problem with certainty, it will depend on who is hosted in the upper floor. Well, that's, even with the problem of the acoustic hospitation I would host again in that establishment, we were very well taken on the reception, even let us up with the bags and then return to check-in, I found that very good and kind from the reception.

My husband and I stayed here the night before our flight home from Lisbon back to the US. The staff were polite and helpful at check-in and helping us get a taxi into town. However, when we asked to be booked on the airport shuttle (that the website says runs every 30 minutes), we were informed that they have moved to a once-an-hour schedule, and that the shuttle we would have needed was already full. So we wound up having to take a taxi. This was not big deal, but still not what was advertised. The room was adequate - clean, reasonably comfortable - but nothing to write home about. I have not idea how the breakfast was, because it opened after we needed to leave for our flight. The main attraction of this hotel is its proximity to the airport.

A great valued hotel in an excellent location in Lisbon. Located right outside Arroios metro station making it a 10 minute journey to the central areas and 1 change at Alameda to go the the airport. The room was spacious and comfortable with a brilliant shower. Room has lots of amenities including fee toiletries, a desk and a fridge and you can request as kettle when you check in. Reception staff were attentive and friendly as were the housekeeping staff who gave us a birthday card too. Breakfast had a plenty of options from pastries to cereal and hot food. You will always be full! It gets quite busy around 8am but there is enough seating to be able to relax and keep going back for more! The hotel also give guests a free coffee voucher which we used once we checked out. Would stay here again and would recommend to anybody visiting Lisbon.
