Lapu-Lapu is a highly urbanised city in the northwestern Mactan island of the Philippines. The city was initially called Opon and was re-named in 1961 to its present name in honour of chief Lapu-Lapu. The municipality of Lapu-Lapu includes two main islands- Mactan Island and Olango Island. Over the year, the climate in Lapu-Lapu city is hot, windy, oppressive, and overcast. The temperature typically varies from 76 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest months are January, February, and March with temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit. The hot months are through September to October with temperatures as high as 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Mactan-Cebu Airport is the leading international airport serving Cebu, Philippines and is located in Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan Island; the airport has a single runway, 3,300 meters long.

But one should always bargain on the prices offered by the drivers as they are not set in stone, and the drivers tend to increase their prices once they notice that you are a tourist. A very famous way to travel around Lapu-Lapu and the one that is highly enjoyed by tourists is through a Jeepney. They are colourful little vehicles that carry 3-4 passengers at once. In the city, jeepneys run at a fixed price depending on the distance.
