La Digue Island Lodge

La Digue|1.73km from downtown
We spent in the La Digue Island Lodge six days and enjoyed its quiet and peaceful vibes very much. Do not expect glamorous luxury here: however, the overall ambience and services correspond well to a three-star hotel. We booked a standard garden room, which is a simple, clean and modest room with a rustic Creole feeling, providing adequate comfort for sleeping and resting after a daylong exploration of the island. We consider two main advantages of the hotel: (1) the location of the hotel is just perfect for exploring the island – all the attractive places are easily reachable from here, including L´Union Estate Park, Veuve Reserve, Nid d´Aigle trail and with a little help of the bike also the most beautiful south-east beaches. (2) a calm and quiet environment free of noisy entertainment, allowing to enjoy undisturbed relaxation in the quiet garden, beach or pool, listening to the murmur of the ocean and chirping of tropical birds, with a tasty cocktail from the pool bar. The restaurant is also designed in a rural Creole style, and we appreciate the offer of the delicious local Creole dishes that are almost unknown and hardly accessible to us in Europe. Be sure to take the opportunity to learn more about the nature of La Digue. With a little patience you will definitely be lucky to spot the gems of the local fauna, such as Paradise Flycatcher birds, Seychelles sunbirds, Seychelles blue pigeons or Greater Frigatebirds. One inconvience must be mentioned: the weak and unreliable wi-fi. If you want to do something important, like online check-in for your flight, it's a good idea to take your device closer to reception where the signal is better. But honestly: isn't it nice to enjoy a digital detox during your holidays? Guests from Europe must also be aware of incompatible electrical outlets. The reception offers adapters to borrow, but only one per room. Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel for our family or friends.

Veuve Nature Reserve

Lucy's Guesthouse

Lucy's Guesthouse

La Digue|0.39km from Veuve Nature Reserve
I had no trouble finding the guesthouse. I just followed the main road from the jetty, and when I reached the right alley, there was a sign directing me to the guesthouse. The walk took 15 minutes. While the main road is paved, the alley is dusty, beware! I had contacted the owner beforehand on WhatsApp (works well and he answers quickly!) to let him know which ferry I will be on, so he was waiting for me. He also printed me a boarding pass for my return boat, and did laundry. Laundry was 10 SCR per piece. There are four rooms in the guesthouse. My ground floor room was simple but clean and in good condition. There was a king size bed, a small desk and chair, a fridge, and a closet. In the closet, there was a safe, but it was useless as it was not attached to anything so basically anyone entering the room could just carry it away under his arm. Wifi was free, unlimited, and reliable. It was fast enough for browsing, but not ideal for videos. The A/C worked and managed to cool the room down somewhat compared to outside temperatures, but it was by no means the most efficient one out there and did not meet my expectations. There were universal sockets available as well as a UK socket by the bed. The room is not very well designed as the bathroom is huge but the room itself is a bit cramped. They could have used all that extra space that is now in the bathroom for a sitting area in the main room instead. The bathroom came with a shower that only had a wall-mounted showerhead. Water pressure was adequate as such, but a handheld shower would have been nice to wash off all the sand. There is a tap outside for this purpose, but the pressure there is terrible and thus that tap is of little use. Hot water was ample. Beware that check-out is at 10 am, which is very early, and they will not store your luggage. You can leave it at the guesthouse if you wish, but that would mean keeping it unsuperwised in the open-air lobby, free for grabs. There was also no possibility to extend the check-out until later so I had to take the 7:30 am ferry instead of the more leisurely 1:30 pm one that I had originally booked. The guesthouse enjoys a good location; there is a supermarket and many eateries within a few minutes’ walk, and you can also easily reach L’Union Estate on foot. I paid 100 EUR per night, which is quite a lot considering the level of accommodations, which are perhaps at 2.5 star standards. But price levels in the Seychelles are high and even more so on La Digue.

Le Domaine de L Orangeraie Resort et Spa

Great central location. Receptionist was super friendly and helpful every time I walked in when passing by to try and decide. Actually, the duo up front were both super helpful and answered all my many questions. Wish cups were on hand to have some water while you waited. Water available, just no cups. They could’ve done mint lemon water or basil water. Something refreshing on an island where herbs and fruit are abundant. After a beach day while you wait, one really doesn’t want to go hunting for a cup in their adjacent bar. That aside, scrub, massage and facial were really very good and the natural setting for them was really outstanding with lush foliage, boulders and natural pools as the backdrop. Not exactly spoiled for choice in the area (it’s a small island) but highly recommend it nonetheless.

Casa de Leela Self Catering Guest House

We booked the Penthouse, two bed apartment which was lovely, although if you have mobility issues (as I do) it's worth noting that you need to climb two flights of steep stairs to access it!. The aircon in our room didn't work very well which wasn't ideal and the bathroom's could do with some blinds as the window onto the toilet is very overlooked by other apartments, not the nicest!! Otherwise the accommodation is clean, spacious and well maintained with everything you could want for self catering. Slightly out of the main area you will need to be a good walker or use the bikes, which we did, however one of them pulled to the left frequently and when we mentioned this it was dismissed as the way we rode it, this clearly wasn't the problem but the staff definitely pay lip service to any complaints and live by the fact that you aren't there long and they really don't need to bother. Swimming pool area lovely and would recommend if you are happy to go with the flow and not expect too much
Le Repaire - Boutique Hotel & Restaurant

This is relatively the most comfortable hotel to stay at at this price. It's only about 600 meters away from the pier, so you don't have to pay relatively high taxi fares (you must discount taxis in the Seychelles, otherwise they are really expensive). La Digue is also relatively small, so you can explore the entire island by renting a bicycle. There is also the most beautiful beach here, and you need to pay a fee to go to this beach. But there is a sense that it can only be viewed from a distance but not played with. The scenery is beautiful, but the sand is relatively hard.

We absolutely love this beautiful and charming guest house for so many reasons I would love to share with you. In first place, the cleanliness and comfort levels were outstanding. Secondly, it is located around 10 minutes away by foot from the ferry station which makes it very convenient for carrying the bags (there is only 1 taxi in the whole island :) Additionally, when we were leaving they helped us to carry our luggage back to the ferry station, showing a strong sense of kindness and going the extra-mile. I would also like to mention the serenity of the place, full of nature, surrounded by hens and chicks. Furthermore, they served a delicious organic breakfast with home-made food (they varied the menu every day depending on the availability of fresh products). I would definitely come back to this gorgeous island and I will choose again this guest-house. Thanks guys for your hospitality, keep up the excellent work and hope to see you soon! 🫶🏽
