The Pocket Hotel Kyoto Karasuma Gojo

I originally booked a four-night stay here, and then extended it for another day. For a solo trip, this is a great hostel – quiet, clean, and you won't be bothered by many people. The front desk service is also excellent, the common area is quite spacious, and the breakfast is definitely worth trying.

Although the room was a bit small, it was still adequate. The hotel's location is very convenient, right next to a subway station, and there's a McDonald's and a few other restaurants nearby. The cleanliness was also very good. Even though showering was only available on the first floor, it was still worth the price.

Transportation: The hotel is super convenient, right outside Gojo Station Exit 1. It's just one stop from Kyoto Station, but beware ❗️ if you have heavy luggage, you absolutely must use Exit 6. None of the other exits have escalators or elevators ㅜㅜ which is really inconvenient. On my first day, it was raining heavily and I had a lot of luggage – it was a real struggle ❗️ You can walk to Kawaramachi in about 15 minutes and Yasaka Shrine in about 24 minutes, so the location is pretty good. Surroundings: Across the street there's a large 7-Eleven. Next to the hotel, there are Japanese 24-hour restaurants, McDonald's, and a big drug store where you can get tax-free shopping. Check-in: Check-in and check-out are self-service, but there are staff members available to guide you through the check-in process. The hotel lobby has a currency exchange machine; while the exchange rate isn't the absolute best, it's very convenient to have. Environment: The lobby has a very serene atmosphere with a distinct Kyoto feel, featuring traditional Kyoto decorations and adorable origami flower balls. There are complimentary tea bags and coffee sachets. The hotel provides pajamas, towels, slippers, and toothbrushes. You'll need to bring your own cotton swabs or some cosmetic products. You also need to use your key card to enter the restrooms and showers 👍. I recommend bringing your own shower slippers when showering. Hair dryers are available in all restrooms. The room was very comfortable and clean. I would definitely choose to stay here again.

The location is great, pretty much downtown. There are plenty of affordable food options nearby, and shopping is just a 15-minute walk away. It's super convenient to get everywhere. The hotel itself is very clean. The room was a bit small, but it was spotless and tidy. The soundproofing for the single room was decent too. The only minor inconvenience was that the rectangular tatami mat bed required unfolding, and I had to put the sheets on myself, but it wasn't a big deal. Space was definitely limited; if you open a slightly larger suitcase, it gets quite cramped. However, for a few nights' stay, it's perfectly fine. There was only one two-prong outlet, which wasn't ideal if you have a lot of electronics like a camera, laptop, and power bank. But there's a charging station downstairs. The breakfast was good too; it's not the hotel's own, but they partner with a nearby restaurant, just a minute's walk away. The value for money is also quite high, and communicating in English was no problem!

I chose to stay at Pocket Hotel near Gojo Subway Station for my cherry blossom viewing trip in Kyoto. It was incredibly clean and hygienic, with separate accommodations and bathing facilities for men and women. I'll definitely stay here again next time. It offers excellent value for money and is very clean. Truly a great choice!
