Hotel Nikko Kumamoto

Kumamoto|0.58km from Kumamoto Castle
My wife and I stayed at the Nikko Kumamoto from 1/5/2023- 3/5/2023 on our second leg of the kyushu trip after a disastrous stay at Nikko Huis Ten Bosch( that I posted on another review). The hospitality was a complete turnaround . We arrived by taxi from the kumamoto station and upon arrival at rhe entrance, there was.a guest officer to help us unload and wheel in our luggage to the check in lobby. Throughout our stay whenever we stepped into or walked by the guests officers, they would greet us and acknowledge us. Despite the language barrier, I was especially touched by the sincere efforts of one of your male guests officer who wore glasses. I had intially wanted to visit Mount Aso but did not know how to go there using public bus. So one one evening I walked to the guest relations desk and stated my intentions and request for more info. I could tell the officer had difficulty trying to communicate in English but he was trying very hard to get the information across. Throughout our stay were given maps and shown by pen and drawings whenever we had questions to a location ie ramen restaurant while waiting for check in, where to shop for sneakers etc I really appreciated the hospitality and guidance despite the language barrier. We hope to be back in future and keep up the good work! I hope the nikko mgmt team can transfer this consistency to your other chains ie( nikko huis ten bosch which clearly lacks such direction ). I really hope when ever I'm in japan I can go back to a nikko

The hotel's location was the main reason why we booked the place. It was close to both Kumamon Square and Kumamotojo, the 2 things we wanted to do in Kumamoto. However, note that even though it's right next to Kumamotojo, it still takes a 15~20minute walk to the entrance because it's on the other side of the castle keep during it's repairs. The staff are wonderful and very helpful, standard level of service in Japan is just one step above every other country. The staff did valet parking for me without extra charge, and was quite helpful in helping us to get to different attractions and restaurants. Overall, the hotel is very dated and the rooms are in dire need of a full renovation. I think that is why the rates were quite reasonable. For a hotel this caliber (probably 5 stars when it was first built), we only paid around 10,000 yen per night. The issue is the rooms are really old and the carpet looks dirty and ripped. parts of the washrooms were so old the faucet looked like it's from the early 90s and with small amounts of molds in the creases. Because the hotel is old, the ventilation isn't the greatest either. One of our rooms although was non-smoking, we could smell other room's cigarette smell in our room. Overall, I don't really recommend this hotel because it's really dated, but if you are on a budget and want close amenity it's worth a shot. The staff are nice too so I feel bad for not recommending the hotel, but at the end of the day, there are just better options in Kumamoto today.

I stayed for 2 in November 2023. It took 15 minutes by tram from Kumamoto Station (¥ 180), and 40 minutes by airport bus (difference due to traffic conditions, ¥ 1,000). Both got off at Dorimachisuji. It has just opened, the building is clean and the restaurant area is under the hotel. There are many restaurants in the hotel area. 3 There is a reception at F, and amenities are free there (toothbrush, shave, brush, etc.). It is charged with renting pajamas ¥ 200, but I felt it was a very reasonable hotel. For consecutive nights, only towels are exchanged. Breakfast was not used because I didn't have time, and I used freshly baked bread of 1 F. There is also a terrace next to it, and as you can see in the photo, you can overlook Kumamoto Castle. It seems that there are 8 types of rooms, and this time I took off my shoes and it was like a flooring 1 K. It is also suitable for desk work and there is no problem with the Wifi environment. Of course, the bath and toilet are separate. There is no problem with the hot water and drainage of the bathtub. The bed is covered with a futon on the tatami mats, and it is very comfortable to sleep in. What's interesting is that there is a washroom immediately after entering the entrance. There is a Tsuruya (department store) next door, and I didn't feel any inconvenience in procuring various souvenirs and ingredients. This hotel is recommended when you go to Kumamoto.

When I visited Kumamoto for work a few months ago, I stayed at an airline hotel. When I was walking at night, I said, ”what is this place!?” ...... I was quite worried, so I decided to stay at business youth this time. Near the central town of Kumamoto, ”kamidori shopping street arcade”, about 3 minutes walk from the tram ”tsumachi Suji”. It is quiet at night because it enters a little alley. About 5 minutes walk to Kumamoto Jo castle. About 2 minutes to ”curry shop” that Anjash Watanabe praises. I think it is a great location without any trouble with eating and drinking. Check in at the front desk. The staff is good and nothing is wrong. However, the facility itself is old, and the room key is not a card key, but the lighting in the corridor is dark, so the key hole does not enter well. How about improving the corridor lighting even if it is small? The room is a good making that fuses the Japanese and Western. It is easy to use and is enough space for me for business youth. The bed is also comfortable using a pressureless type mattress. The public bath was also the best. It is not a hot spring, but the bathtub is large, the sanitary washroom with cleaning, and the first experience, but the washroom is the whole ”tatami style”. It has a good originality with a slip-stop effect. The quality is fundamentally different from the business hotel with the top floor hot springs that you often see recently. In addition, when I stay at business youth, I can't comment on the meal because I don't take a meal there. Only this was a good inn and the price was conscientious. (It may have been a quiet weekday) There is little point to this, but there is a serious problem with one point: the room is not ”non-smoking”. In recent years, there is no hotel that is not non-smoking even if it is internationally seen. It is said that it is cleaning it according to the hope of non-smoking and the advance, but in the first place, the person who hates tobacco is sensitive to the smell. Even if not all rooms are non-smoking, you should prepare a non-smoking room. You should give 100 steps and put an air cleaner in your room even if you rest. Only there is ”ouch!”

We have used it several times. It feels a bit old in an old hotel, but it is a hotel that can be clean and calm. The morning Viking is a 10F restaurant, so you can see Kumamoto Jo castle that took the Asahi in front of you. The Viking was delicious as well. There was ”Kumamoto Ramen” and I made a morning rake on the last day. The size of the room and the hardness of the bed are satisfactory, but because the room light is small, I want another standlight and the bathroom faucet can be set to temperature I'm grateful. I made four stars. I am satisfied because I had a calm and comfortable time

The hotel room is very small and not suitable for parents and children. It's not bad for two or one person to travel, just beside the commercial street, the location is very good. The facilities are relatively old, but they are all working well. There is rice ball bread for breakfast, which is okay. Little friends have nothing to eat.

I stayed at the introduction of an acquaintance. It is very clean because it has just opened this summer. Security is also safe because the elevator does not move without the key to the room. Unfortunately, I couldn't see Kumamoto Jo castle from my room, but there was a table and chair on the rooftop, and I was able to enjoy Kumamoto Jo castle at night. The room is equipped with a lot of outlets and USB, and it is not troubled by charging mobile phones. The clothes in the building were unique. Laughs. It became a memory of the trip. The front desk was also kind.

A typical local travelers hotel tucked right next to the Kamitoricho shopping street where food options and convenience are abundant. The nearest tram stop is about 300m from the hotel, and the Shinkansen station is about 20mins by tram from the hotel. All major tourist attractions are also within the vicinity. The hotel has aged over the years but has been very well kept. Rooms are BIG for japanese standards, clean, toilets look very new, and basic amenities like body wash, towels and kettle is provided. Coffee is provided but you would have to walk to the reception to grab a cup. Room is sufficiently insulated and a central heater will keep you warm during winter. However the partition between the rooms are thin so noise from the next room can be audible - we had a occupant snore so loudly that it was faintly audible in the room. It is also worth noting that the footsteps and slamming doors from the corridor may also be heard via the front door. Lastly, although some of the staff may not speak English well, they are very helpful and accommodative - just whip out your google translate and have a conversation with them - they will gladly oblige.
