Wellé Wadiya Beach Villa

We stayed here for 4 fabulous nights in February, deciding to go straight to Kalpataya from the airport. It was a good 3 and a half hours and certainly not boring. The hotel is right beside the ocean and you can listen to the waves from your room and spacious covered balcony; we found it very relaxing. You can also see the ocean from your balcony during the day. The staff team here are fabulously, nothing is a trouble. Pradeep, the manager will do his very best to arrange excursions or transfers for you, we went to Willpatu National Park and on the Dolphin boat trip, both arranged by Pradeep and both excellent. The food at the hotel is exceptional, try the Sri Lankan breakfast, it is a fantastic experience. The area is quiet and very friendly, you can walk out of the hotel without any harassment but you may encounter friendly cows donkeys and dogs on your travels (all of which know the Highway Code). There were one or two minor inaccuracies in the description, there was no TV or safety deposit box in our room but we did not need or miss either. Doors were very secure and Brownie, the resident dog, let you know when any non guest entered the grounds ( she seemed to understand who were guests and who weren’t) All in all a fantastic experience and if I came back to Kalpitaya I would stay here without a second thought.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our yoga tour trough the North of Sri Lanka. Lovely rooms with vieuw over the ocean, by far the most confortable beds we had during our tour, a lovely pool, lots of space for yoga, tasty food and caring staff. Special thanks to Sabham who went above and beyond to make our stay most confortable.

This place was a great start to our honeymoon ! The service and staff were very welcoming. They went out of their way to get us extra things to make our stay special & the owner also turned up for the weekend and shouted us an amazing fresh fish dinner ! Donald (the manager ) and his crew were awesome . Highly recommended Location was amazing to kick back and Relax and get used to Sri Lanka ! We decided to go here because they seemed to have a lot of positive reviews. But unfortunately in our opinion, the hotel failed to meet even the most basic of expectations. The food was terrible and extremely overpriced. There were no sunbeds or even chairs at the beach to sit at. Even the cut fruits we requested after lunch were unripe. Rooms were alright, although the bed sheet and the pillowcases had stains on them. The only place to hang out wet clothes or towels was a rusty wall mount rack in the toilet that ended up staining our clothes. We could've managed with the quality of service, cleanliness and facilities had there been decent food. Extremely disappointed at the quality and the exorbitant price for the food. Wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone.

Checked in and checked out 2 hours later; would have been quicker but we had to find an alternative. Room was very very smelly coming from the bathroom. Safe broken. Patio doors to balcony broken. We thought we’d give the food a try before making a final decision not to stay here. It was almost inedible. The table we sat at was near the pool which was murky looking and uninviting. Whole pool area was dirty, a nasty looking tissue on the ground and sticky table tops. Just the feel of the place was all a bit sleazy. A smell of ***** didn’t add to the appeal for us! To be fair we are probably not typical of this hotel’s usual customers, being in our sixties and not being there for the kite surfing.

1. We arrived at 4am and all the staff were awake to greet us! 5 stars 2. Breakfast - at your own timing. Excellent local and international breakfast. For an authentic experience try the local food. Super amazing and delicious. Vidusha, the resident chef is very talented. 3. Rooms. Comfortable and air conditioned with ceiling fan. Firm beds and fluffy pillows. Clean sheets and soft towels. Beach towels available on request. Some rust stains on door hinges, etc but nothing dramatic. No TV - but I consider this a plus point! (I understand that the rooms are in the process of refurbishment.) 4. Beach front. Absolute beach front. You can hear the waves and winds. Clean white beach, shallow gradient with on large shore breaks at times. It is public so casual beach combers, locals, tame dogs, birds, crabs. And Donkeys! 5. Pool. Clean and blue with white deck chairs and sitting areas for functions. 6. The staff is superb. Anthony, the manager is so accommodating, attentive and pre-emptive. He always made sure we had enough water, or towels, or food. Jiwan (aka G-One) also saw to our needs. Always smiling and conscientious. On my last day there he plucked a coconut and made me a coconut drink (FOC). The cleaners and other staff were always deferential and kindly to all guests. 7. We windsurfed off the beach, and even with the extra gear and different demands, we were never found wanting. All our needs were taken care of; from an additional wash point, to masking tape; extra storage area and manpower to move furniture. 8. As of this writing, we are planning another trip.
