Van der Valk Plaza Resort Bonaire

The resort was fantastic. The Toucan dive staff were amazing and very professional. The snorkeling right off the beach was great. The pool and amenities were great and we were overall extremely impressed. I was especially impressed with the front desk staff who were so helpful when we had last minute flight issues. We’ve travelled to many Caribbean and Gulf resorts and this was possibly the best. We’ll likely come again.

This place is beautiful and the snorkeling right on the beach is so amazing! They need more food options. I was so sick of that buffet by the end of the week. The food was good, but no variety. Also, there is no entertainment at night at all other than some music at dinner. Overall the place is great though.

The property was truly beautiful and had a wonderful view of the sunset. One of the best 3 meal buffets we have ever been! The room was brand new with very up to date everything. The staff were very pleasant especially all servers in the dining and bar areas. Would have liked to have more lighting in the bathroom and a way to shut off the lights in the closet and the toilet room. Our only true problem in the resort was a lack of beach towels. Of the ten or so times we went to get the towels from the front they were out. This was especially troublesome when going off site. We spent three days without a clean beach towel.

Everything was really good all the way until we got home. Next day $100 charge for a beach towel showed up on credit card. The 2 beach towels were turned in at checkout. Having to dispute this charge after front desk said all good and no charges when checking out to now this ruined everything.

Our room was amazing (2 bedroom apartment). The food was delicious- and the drinks were excellent. Overall, it is a very nice resort. My only suggestion would be to have a separate towel hut so you don’t have to go to the front desk to get towels each time. The dive staff at toucan diving were really great, especially Lau who was our kids dive instructor. Our kids, ages 11 and 13, did their open water dive certification course with him, and he was really great with both of them. He made it a really good experience for them and that was reassuring for us. Definitely recommend this resort!

Resort was beautiful with a great main pool and loved all the activities for kids around the pool. Enjoyed the pool bar but this did get busy mid-day. Bar tenders were very friendly. Room was very nice but outdated. Assuming this will be updated soon based on other renovations ongoing. I’d recommend more pillows for guests. Room had only two pillows and they were somewhat flat. Travelers could bring their own as additional pillows for the room were declined by front desk upon request. I’d also recommend purchasing European plug converters if coming from USA. Minimal plugs in room for US plug. No bedside plugs so husband had to purchase extension cord to use cpap. I would also note that all inclusive was not the typical all inclusive we have experienced at other resorts. There is all inclusive with limited liquor and drinks available. You get the list at check in. There is a premium package that includes frozen drinks and premium liquor and other amenities like fridge in room. This should be detailed on website when booking. We didn’t mind purchasing but felt the website detail was a bit deceiving since there was no mention of limited brands or common frozen cocktails were not included with all inclusive. Overall our first stay was great and we would return but learned the limitations of resort so we can adjust accordingly next stay.

There aren't washcloths! The Plaza is located in an area with amazing snorkeling and scuba diving. Clean, quiet, spacious. Wonderful pool and beach access.

Make sure to bring a converter for charging electronics. All-inclusive is a bit misleading at this resort. Only applies to certain items on the non-buffet menu and certain drinks/ alcohols. The resort is beautiful, clean, staff is friendly and helpful.
