Kotohira Kadan

Kotohira|0.8km from downtown
We just returned from a quick but memorable trip to Shikoku. We stayed at Kotohira Kadan for our first night since it's conveniently situated to enjoy some of the finest Sanuki Udon noodle restaurants in the area (we chose not to explore Kotohira-gu (aka ”Konpira-san”) - that will be reserved for a next visit.) While we enjoy modern rooms as much as the next person, we also appreciate traditional architecture, furnishings and decor... and Chouseiden (長生殿), Kotohira Kadan's top room, oozed history and tradition in a way that left us with a lasting impression. Chouseiden is one of a handful of stand-alone villas at the ryokan, and was inhabited by the local Lord many years ago. It's also liberally adorned with the art collection of the original owner Kotohira Kadan, including ancient folding screens, sliding doors and hanging scrolls that were produced by famous artists. It's so history-laden that it is bound to creep some people out... I don't think Mrs. KI-NRT would ever choose to live in such a room, but as an ”experience” it was well worth the privilege of trying out Chouseiden. It does have the comforts of a modern ryokan/hotel, such as toilets with washlets, fast WiFi and Western-style beds, and boasts 152m² of total living space, which is generous by any definition of a flagship ryokan room. The only drawback was the lack of a private Onsen (natural hot springs) bath in the room - something we've come to expect at top-level ryokans, at least (and especially) in their top rooms. Some of the standard rooms do offer in-room Onsen baths, however, which might tip the scales to the non-villa rooms' favor for some people. As a consolation, Kotohira Kadan offers the use of their private bath (which can be rented out by the hour), and it's free for guests staying at one of the Hanare Villa rooms. Food was served in our room, and it was a delight. While it's not the best ryokan meal we've ever had, we appreciated the efforts taken by the kitchen staff to offer seasonal and local dishes that gave us a good taste of Kagawa. In particular, the deep-fried Pike Conger with simmered vegetables doused in a dashi broth was unique and flavorful, as well as the Red Sea Bream Shabu Shabu (Hot Pot.) Breakfast was also varied and bountiful, although nothing really blew us away, which is just as well, since we were planning to go on an Udon tasting expedition beginning later that morning. The grounds are not massive, but there's a pretty little pond with some interesting vegetation around it. And the architecture of the Hanare Villas (including Chouseiden) give Kotohira Kadan a real sense of place given its proximity to Kotohira-gu. Keep in mind that the property is quite large when it comes to room count (43 total), so there may be some walking between your room and the main reception and lounge areas (from Chouseiden, you'll need to walk outside for a short distance - fine if the weather is cooperating.) Service is not up to the standards set by top luxury r

Because of the train accident, the arrival time was delayed, so I was too tired to take pictures of the room, but I was assigned a spacious and clean tatami room. There was one toilet and bathroom on each floor, and each floor was shared, but it was easy to use without colliding with other guests. It was a bathroom with a bathtub with a boiler, but it was very spacious. The water in the bathtub was hot without cooling, so I felt really good. 😆 Breakfast was available in Japanese and Western styles. I wanted to eat Japanese home-style meals, so I asked for Japanese style, but it was a really delicious, clean and hearty breakfast. I felt like eating at my grandmother's house in the countryside. He drove me to the entrance of Confira and brought my luggage to the station on time later. It was a warm guest house that was impressed from one to the heat. Because of this place, I want to go to Gotohira again. I really would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a guest house. I was very tired when the train arrived late, so I'm sorry I couldn't take a picture of the room in advance. The room we stayed in was a very clean and large tatami room. The bath and toilet were shared on each floor, but it was easy to use without meeting other customers. I really liked the large bathroom with a bathtub, and thanks to that, my body got warm. 😆 I was surprised that the Japanese-style breakfast was really delicious. I was able to drive directly to the compiler and send my luggage to the station on time later, so I was able to sightsee easily. Thank you very much for your concern. Thanks to this guest house, I definitely wanted to come here again. Thank you again if you decide to go next time.

The public bathroom has been renovated, but it is not too big. The mixed bathing on the top floor is for bathing suits, so don’t worry too much. There are several Taiwanese students working as waiters in the hotel. The hotel will write the name of the guest who checked in at the door. Hotels often receive tourist groups, maybe because it is cheap? When you leave the hotel, turn left and there is a 711 convenience store. Basically all the shops in Kotohira are closed at night, so you must book dinner at the hotel. But the breakfast and dinner at the hotel are not very tasty, and they are simple and not classy. In addition, if you have a Shikoku pass, you can get a coupon at the tourist office of the jr station. Take the coupon to the hotel and get a free drink, coffee, orange juice, and tea. There is no public bath even though it is a hot spring inn. There are about 7 individual baths. Every one is full if there are 3 ~ 4 people. Because each one is locked, there is no possibility that others will come in during bathing. You can also walk to the approach to the golden sword hiragu shrine. I think the likes and dislikes will be divided, but I liked it very much.

First of all, it is difficult to drive to the parking lot (the road is thin and difficult to understand), so I think it is better to arrive by sunset or go by railroad. When I arrived, the gate was first built and the feeling of Showa was full and I felt nostalgic. The room and facilities are old, but the water was beautiful and the bath was comfortable. The meal was half anxious half anxious, but I was very satisfied. Despite the busy time of 1 vegetarians and busy in the Bonn, I was grateful to prepare a vegetarian meal.

The first visit to Kimhira San for a couple. The hot spring inn for you was taken care of here with a full room. The location is outstanding and it is perfect as a base for sightseeing. The response was not bad, such as parking the car the next day of the stay, and lending the worship wand for free. On the other hand, the slightly old facilities were very good, and the room we stayed in was dark with lighting, the bathroom key was broken and not closed, and the door of the closet was not closed properly. Also, I think breakfast is unavoidable in this corona cherry blossom, but cold omelette and muffin (this was warmed) with croissants, corn soup, It was lonely only with fruit yogurt. There were three kinds of sweet juices for drinks, but there was no milk or tomato juice that I wanted to drink. It is enough to come and stay at work, but it was now one to stay on a couple trip. I went to see it because I received a ticket to take a bath in the inn called cherry blossoms of the sister hall, but it is honest that I wanted to stay here. It may be no choice to stay at a business hotel in a tourist destination like this place, but it is only a little more to accompany tourists like us I hope you can.
