Hotel Ploen, situated in the heart of Chaweng, offers prime access to the district’s vibrant energy. With the iconic Chaweng Beach, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs all within walking distance, the location is ideal for those seeking a central and lively stay. The hotel boasts clean, well-maintained rooms and friendly, responsive staff who ensure a comfortable experience. However, the breakfast selection is limited to just fruits, yoghurt and coffee, which might be insufficient for some travelers. Additionally, while the central location provides easy access to many points of interest, exploring the broader island is recommended, and due to high taxi fares, renting a bike is a more cost-effective option. Overall, Hotel Ploen is a good choice for travelers seeking a central location and easy access to Chaweng's nightlife and beach scene.
We spent 14 nights at the hotel, from September 14th to 28th. During this period, the sun wasn't scorching (what we had was enough), it was often cloudy, but the temperature was consistently around 30 degrees Celsius. We saw three short spells of rain. We swam in the sea and pool every day.
This was our third time on Koh Samui and we specifically chose the Mae Nam area. It's far from the crowds and our favorite beach. The water is beautiful (though not clear), the entry is gentle, and the sand is fine. There are areas with reefs without waves, and others with large, gentle waves.
The hotel is located right next to the reefs. During low tide, the water would be shallow, so we'd head to the right – and there were gorgeous beaches there, especially near the cliff behind the rocky ridge. For several days, the tide was high, and we swam near the hotel.
We had a room with a sea view. The balcony was gorgeous and spacious, with sofas. The bathroom has a jacuzzi – you can throw a foam party in it and open the windows to create your own mini-pool.
The kitchen has a toaster, kettle, coffee maker, stove, microwave, and a large refrigerator – we used it to make breakfast several times. The kitchen door is very inconvenient – it was annoying. When open, it blocks half the kitchen, and when closed, it interferes with opening the drawers and microwave. While cooking, you have to drag the door back and forth. It's better to remove it altogether.
The bedroom is separated by glass doors – the wall is just a makeshift one. But the soundproofing was sufficient for the two of us; we love having separate rooms because we wake up at different times.
There's a restaurant on site. A complimentary cocktail every day is a significant benefit. 25% off all menu items, excluding alcohol. We ate breakfast once – it was a solid B+. We recommend the sea bass dishes from the restaurant menu; the burgers and sandwiches are quite good. The Thai cuisine is a 5. The beef steak was tough – we complained, returned it, and they didn't charge us. If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk left along the shore – there are cheap, simple Thai cafes with delicious food and excellent shakes for 40 baht a 10-minute walk away.
The spa is decent. The massage quality is quite good. It's 50% more expensive than the nearby massage shops, but at least it's a separate room and quiet, not seven in a row on benches with whispering therapists. We also got about a 25% discount from the hotel.
We couldn't decide whether the cleaning was good or bad. But there was no dirt, mold, or insects. On previous visits, we stayed in other places, where ants would flock to every drop of sugar, but here we didn't see a single ant in the room or on the balcony. During cleaning, they washed the dishes and changed the towels regularly. The floors definitely weren't washed every time—there could be sand left on the floor. Things were folded or stacked neatly every other time.
The staff were all smiling and friendly. They helped us park our car, and once they helped us carry our groceries—we have a habit of buying enough for two weeks in advance.
The frying pan was bad—we complained, and they replaced it with a new one. The toaster's automatic toast-raising mechanism didn't work. The coffee machine only poured 1/5 of a cup at a time, and we had to stand there and press it five times. The microwave door had to be pressed on the top left side, otherwise it wouldn't turn on—we just realized this by accident. We didn't complain to the staff about the appliances. We've adjusted. But this isn't right—the appliances need to be updated; non-working appliances are annoying.
There's a review somewhere with photos of scuffs and rough spots—you can find fault if you want. After 10 years of use, it's noticeable. But these scuffs, scratches, and marks from used appliances and furniture didn't spoil our impression – the balcony, jacuzzi, and comfortable mattress made up for it all.
Sound. You can hear road noise, but our windows faced the sea, and it wasn't particularly bothersome. You can also close the doors in the common hallway and it's completely silent. However, the sounds of construction nearby from 11 a.m. drowned out the birdsong and the sound of the sea during the day (they were working even on weekends) – but on Koh Samui, there's construction all around, so it's a matter of luck.
What we really didn't like was the king-size bed – it's actually two single beds pushed together, and they eventually slipped apart. There are three pillows – all uncomfortable – they don't give in!
Our review is for a room in the hotel building, not the villas. We were shown the villas, and everything looked very decent.
Overall, we really enjoyed it and didn't want to leave, we would come back because the pros outweigh the cons.
Everything was excellent. Seovis is 10 out of 10. In case you have few guests on the eve before breakfast it would be very good to ask to fill out a questionnaire who will eat for breakfast (as other hotels do) to not wait and spend precious time. My high rating in advance taking into account my comments. And so it was just super

Great
Everything is great. Have a scooter and explore the island. Ongoing renovation for villas and reception- later will be great also. Recommend to stay as we prolonged extra nights :)
Everything was excellent. 10 out of 10 for Seovis. If you have a small number of guests the night before breakfast, it would be a good idea to ask guests to fill out a questionnaire about what they'll be eating for breakfast (as other hotels do) so as not to wait and waste precious time. My high ratings in advance, taking my comments into account. Otherwise, everything was simply superb.
