Saxon Lodge

We had originally set off from George for Agulhas but level 9 storms had swept the area and roads were being closed all over the Cape. After abandoning plans to get to Agulhas we tried to get to Hermanus a day early so headed to Stanford. The river which runs alongside the road was getting bigger and bigger the nearer we got to the coast and when we got to Stanford the Hermanus road had been closed so we made the decision to drive to Gansbaai instead. As we entered the town, the road we had just travelled along was in the process of being closed too. We set about trying to find somewhere to stay for the evening and were extremely lucky to stumble upon Saxon Lodge. After speaking with Dave the owner, he said I might be able to help you out. As two couples, we took his last vacancy which was a family room with 2 singles and a double. We got lucky as it was ideal for our needs. Comfortable, clean and providing everything we needed. They also gave us recommendations for places to eat but with no power throughout the area not many were open. Later that evening the power come back on providing us with WiFi and hot water for showers along with Netflix on the TV. G Our hosts were absolutely fantastic and so helpful when we found ourselves in the predicament that was. Even breakfast was great and very welcome the following morning. A great big thanks to Dave and Caron for providing us with not only a warm welcome but a lovely, comfortable and clean place to stay for the night. All I can say is if you ever need somewhere to stay in Gansbaai then Saxon Lodge is the place to go.

Warm welcome en overall super friendly staff! We received a lot of information about the area and soms great tips on what to do and where to go. There was a great bar inside where we played some board games while drinking a 'local' beer and amarula. The room was very big and even had Netflix to watch some series/movies. While we were eating our deliscious breakfast ,we even saw a whale in the ocean! A perfect place to spend the night!

Saxon Lodge has a lovely location in the heart of Gansbaai. Friendly staff and rooms are clean and neat and has all you need. Thank you Caron for hosting us and your excellent recommendation for dinner. We enjoyed our overnighter in Gansbaai👌🏼

Saxon Lodge is well positioned with plenty of parking in a shared area on a cul-de-sac. The rooms are basic and the pool is really a large plunge pool rather than a swimming pool. Breakfast is good, dining room very spacious, and use of the owners lounge is a nice touch. The on-site bar can be either manned or operate on an honesty basis but don’t expect a late night drink when you get back from dinner out, it was always locked after about 9:30. Caron and Dave are very friendly and will help with any attractions or events you wish to try.

We had the best experience at this location. The owners ar so kind, we enjoyed the African braai they did for us. Breakfast is perfect and the view at sea is lovely. In the bar we spend the evening together and had a lot of fun! Precious memories we made, we are so thankful for everything.

We really enjoyed the time at Saxon Lodge. The owners are really nice and helpful. Delicious breakfast with an beautiful view. We spotted some whales from our table. We definitely come back by the next opportunity.

The Saxon lodge is the ideal place to discover Gansbaai and the surroundings. Our room, The Albatros, was a large room with a big terras that gave us a perfect view on the bay and ocean. The owners and their staff are very helpful and can give you some nice tips. This lodge has a own bar in a very cozy style, we liked it a lot!!

We booked one of the side rooms at the lodge. The room was comfortable but very dark and and certainly not 4 star quality. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was okay. The staff were friendly and check in was efficient. In general, a comfortable overnight but certainly not 4 star.

Beautiful view over Gansbaai harbour with Hermanus in the background. We were given the top floor suite from where we enjoyed the sunset over the bay. Thank you for the personal attention and further trip advise. We'll be back.
