Relais du Kirindy

My sister and I stayed at this hotel for one night. At night we were at the pool drinking and chatting with our guides and driver and she went back to our room to grab something. The security guard who was holding an axe, grabbed her and tried to kiss her as she left the room. She said no and ran up the to tell us what happened. We immediately told the hotel and they called all of the security guards up. She had to pick him out from a lineup and the whole thing was super uncomfortable and not handled sensitively. They then said he was gone but when we went to our room later he was still posted outside. We went back up to the night manager and said we were uncomfortable with him still being there and employed with an axe on his shoulder. She said she didn’t see what the problem was but she walked us to our room and we demanded he be moved elsewhere. In the morning we spoke to the owner who wouldn’t let my sister even speak to explain what happened. She was very rude and dismissive and at one point tried to tell us it was our fault for drinking. They kept on saying it was only a small problem until I got very cross and said that a man grabbing a solo female in the night against her will, whilst holding an axe is not a small problem. They eventually agreed to fire him at our insistence for safety of future female travellers but as we were leaving we saw him go straight back to his post. We heard him say to the owner it was just the Malagasy way. Overall I would not recommend this to any female travellers. We luckily had some men we had met stand up for us and help, but without them who knows what could have happened and how it would have been dealt with by the staff. For such an overpriced hotel clearly targeted at tourists this whole situation was unbelievably terrible.

⛔️WARNING FEMALE TRAVELERS!!! ⛔️I am a young Australian woman travelling with my sister we stayed here for one night in a room with a male friend we met. We were hanging out at the pool drinking as a big group at night with our drivers and tour guide I went back to the room by myself to quickly get something the “security” man that was posted out front of our room with an axe over his shoulder grabbed me and tried to kiss me as I was leaving the room to head back! We told the staff right away and they handled it so TERRIBLY telling us they send him away but when we went back to our room shorty after he was waiting there still with an AXE. The next morning when we told the manager in charge she blamed me for drinking and was so very rude. No resolution was come to they offered to take some money off our bill but I declined as the money was not going to ensure the next persons safety, they said they would fire him but I really don’t believe it. Females tourists are not safe here and I’m very grateful I was travelling not alone. BE AWARE! Apart from that the hotel is ok but pretty poor for the exuberant price

We spent one night here on our road trip and the place was lovely. I feel the negative comments are really unfair. The room was good, the pool was clean and nice, and food was actually good too. Yes, you are in the middle of a forest and in the wild, and yes you are in a remote location so electricity in the rooms is only available between certain hours, but the bungalows were really comfortable and lovely. Staff was also very kind.

Very nice staff. This place was so picefull and quiet. In our house the water was warm and everything was very clean. Swiming pool was gratefull and also very clean. The food was tasty but it was very small choice.

For such a high price, not having power, that too just for fan/light (not AC) during the whole night is not correct. Payment by credit card should be there since not a budget hotel. Swimming pool is decent though in the middle of no where. Restaurant is good and reasonably priced considering the remote location

Staff were lovely. Note this is very much in the jungle but the staff did a great job and the place was clean with all the amenities you need.

Rustic accommodation without AC. Electricity is running only a few hours per day. Nice pool and near the Kirindy forest. The lack of constant electricity create issue for the conservation of the food... we got sick while there. Please make sure to have traveller's diarhea meds if you go OR stick to vegetarian options maybe.

With measured expectations and a great guide who prepared us, this little oasis was fantastic. As promised there was limited electricity and wifi, but that meant more pool time and chats with the staff and our amazing guide. Its a resource deprived country with massive logistical challenges and yet they make do amazingly. We loved our stay at Relais du Kirindy mostly because they are amazing hosts. Truly hospitable and trying to offer their best with the little they have to offer it with. The food though was hot, the drinks cold and the lodgings comfy. The great advantage of staying here was access to the Kirindy forest where we got to see the Fossa and a family of Lemurs. Like I said great guide and great suggests. (Christophe Madagascar Tour Guide - Interpreter on facebook) I have no reason to return but if I had to I would love to catch up with the staff. A side note. There are some great Baobabs close by the resort for sunset pictures. I spent one of the best afternoons of my life at this cluster with a group of children.

This hotel is in a great location for visits to the Kirindy park. The pool and restaurant were great. It is very close to the Sacred Baobab tree in the nearby village.
