Shangri-la Boutique Hotel

super convenient location in thamel district, kathmandu. v close to the garden of dreams and the main streets of the area, where there was a lot of buzz day and night. the hotel is far back enough from these streets that the noise doesn't affect sleep in any way. rooftop terrace was a nice touch

The hotel location was conveniently. Staffs are very helpful and friendly specially Kiki who made our trip is memorable Thanks for his efforts and genuine services we love the hotel and definitely coming back

Hotel refused my legitimate booking, they did not confirm the booking with Agoda, kept stating I booked via another company and did not acknowledge I'd already paid, they offered no solutions, were argumentative and I felt stranded - I could not stay there. The breakfast was 450 rupees, I was charged 514 rupees supposedly 5% more as paying by card (but charged more), even though I was checking-out a day earlier and they could re-let my room (I'd paid 22GBP). They said the first two nights were cancelled (12th and 13th) - they were not - I'd only cancelled 14th to 19th, which I could clearly show - they were not interested and said I'd booked via a different company! Awful place.

We expected a boutique hotel in Kathmandu, but Shangri‑La turned out to be more like a backpacker hostel. The building looks simple and the atmosphere is far from what a boutique place should feel like. We did not stay the night because the reservation was wrong. The reception and management communicated very badly despite we contacted them upfront directly. After we booked a double room, they told us only on arrival that the double room does not exist. They offered two other rooms, but both rooms lacked any boutique charm; they were plain and looked more like hostel rooms. The only thing they offered us as add-on was a simple breakfast, and the price stayed the same – there was no discount or compensation for the lower standard. Because of the poor communication and the misleading room options, we decided to find another place late at night. Overall, the hotel is not a boutique hotel, the management is disorganized, and the experience was not what we expected.

We traveled to Kathmandu without a plan so upon getting to the Shangri-La hotel we had little expectations. In discussion with KiKi he took over our itinerary by helping us plan our 8-day excursion. With that we saw all the beautiful sights in Kathmandu and a jaunt to Pokhara which included a helicopter ride to ABC. KiKi took care of everything (e.g. cars, planes, drivers, helicopters) local. The staff at both hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara could not have been any nicer. We truly felt like part of the family.

We honestly can’t recommend Shangrila Boutique Hostel enough. It made us completely fall in love with Nepal. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel so welcome and at home in Kathmandu. The rooms were clean, comfy, and just what we needed before and after our Annapurna Circuit trek. We booked the trek through their sister travel company, and they sorted everything for us with super short notice, permits, transport, the lot and it couldn’t have been easier. KK went above and beyond, and our mountain guide Sahadeb was incredible, knowledgeable, kind, and the trek wouldn’t have been the same without him. By the first night we already felt part of the family :) The trek itself was unforgettable. We’re already planning our next trip to Nepal and of course, we’ll be staying here again. We stayed at Shangri-La Boutique Hotel before and after our Everest Base Camp trek, and it was the perfect choice. Keke, the owner, was absolutely fantastic. Knowledgeable, welcoming, and incredibly helpful in making our trip unforgettable. On our first day, Keke helped us organise white water rafting, canyoning, and rock climbing to make the most of our time in Kathmandu. His local expertise and attention to detail ensured everything was seamless and enjoyable. I highly recommend staying here for the lovely rooftop breakfast, the overall great atmosphere, and the opportunity to involve Keke in planning your adventures. He truly made our experience in Kathmandu worth every minute!

I stayed here 8 years ago and now I came back. The location is great, close to everything. It includes a delicious breakfast and the balcony offers a relaxing place to drink tea or rest, while admiring the views. The owner Keshab and his staff are very helpful, friendly, and willing to make your trip a great experience.

Me and my mate stayed at this hostel before and after our EBC trek. The owner KK has taken great care of us organising so many different activities for us and made us feel very welcomed. The facilities are well equipped and all the staff members are extremely helpful. Once again thank you so much for giving us such a fantastic experience!!
