Kansas City
We stayed May 2022- two adults and one toddler. We arrived around 415p to check in and our room was ready. We were greeted by a friendly clerk and our keys were prepared. Breakfast on a Sunday would start at 7a and go to 930. We didn’t have a chance to enjoy breakfast but it did smell amazing in the elevator and lobby! We booked a King Suite and it worked well for our family. We have a Slumberpod and Hiccapop toddler bed and there was ample room in the main area of the suite to set up. We had plenty of outlets for the sound machine and crib camera. (It’s been a couple of years since we’ve traveled!) The room was very clean and felt recently remodeled. We were in room 225 and I don’t believe we ever heard other doors close or anyone in the hallway- which was great. All of the front desk staff was friendly and informative. Very adjacent to Legends Outlets- it was so nice to just walk over from the parking lot and know you didn’t have a long walk back. We could have walked to Children’s Mercy Park for graduation but weather didn’t help us out for that. The only “complaint” we had was the parking lot/outside. There’s construction next door and the parking lot is adjacent to an active construction site. We had to circle the property to determine the true front door (the building is marked, but there’s no overhang in case of rain and really not much signage to clearly mark the front door.) I also worried about driving over construction materials. There’s not a consecutive sidewalk around the property and some very blind corners- it was not fun to walk a toddler to the car. It’s not really anything the hotel can help- but other travelers might appreciate the heads up. Great location for the area- we’d stay here again if the need arises. Use Parallel Pkwy instead of State Ave if possible- it’s right there!

We stayed here on January 5. The property itself was very nice—large rooms, comfortable beds, good breakfast. Our problem was dog-related. We checked in around 8 p.m. and went to our room to be immediately met with the consistent barking of a large dog in the adjacent room. We immediately called the desk and asked for another room. They didn’t have any other king rooms so the lady at the desk said she would come down and take a look. My husband waited for a few minutes then went up to the lobby when he didn’t see her. There was a steady stream of people checking in and the desk attendant was completely alone. My husband talked to her briefly and she called the room where the dog was, but of course, no one answered. She tried to move us to a room with 2 queens, but said she couldn’t register us to a different room because we had booked the room through AAA and the system wouldn’t allow her to make us keys. Eventually, she was able to call someone who told her just to take us to a room and let us in. To make things worse, the lady at the desk had a disability and walked with a walker. We felt terrible that she had to walk us to our room. We couldn’t believe there wasn’t a manager or security person who could have helped out. At some point during the night, they figured out how to make us keys and put them under our door. While my husband was in the lobby, another man came to the desk and said he needed another room because there was dog poop on the floor of his room. We’re okay with people travelling with their dogs, but this hotel obviously had some issues.

Our stay was both good and bad. We stayed 3 nights over the Labor Day weekend. The good: Our room was very clean. It was obvious housekeeping cared about their work. The floor felt clean, and there was no dust anywhere. The room smelled fresh but not chemically. The dishes and utensils in the kitchenette were clean and put away nicely. There was even ice already made in the freezer. The bed was very comfortable. There was no smoke smell inside the hotel at all...that was wonderful! In the shower, there are permanent dispensers with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (J.R. Watkins lemon basil scent), so unless you have a personal preference, you don't need to bring your own. There is a Walmart next door to the property if you need anything. Property is well lit and convenient to restaurants. The bad: (Nitpicking on my part, not necessarily the hotel's fault, but things you might care about and something management might want to be aware of) While we were there, we saw a kind of sketchy man with an ankle monitor hanging out in the back parking lot with his 3 dogs, 1 puppy, friends and the lady who was the night desk clerk fairly late into the evening. He may have had a legitimate reason to be there, but the ankle monitor and his 2 vehicles with broken out side windows gave off an unsafe vibe. We made sure to park out front after that. The evening desk clerk spent most of her time outside smoking, and on 2 occasions, we actually had to ask her to come in to help us and another guest waiting at the counter. It did get noisy at night with kids running around, and we could hear a large dog or dogs barking and running around upstairs from us. The dishwasher is LOUD, so we stopped running it since it was about 9pm. For the price, cleanliness, comfort, and location, I would stay there again.

I’ve now stayed at almost every 21C hotel (I haven’t been to Iowa). Gets an overall five stars with some stronger points and some weaker points. Strong: the artwork this time around was poignant, the thought provoking, and cohesive. The restaurant and restaurant staff were outstanding (The Savoy, reviewed separately). Their room service was awesome too. The beds at 21C have always been comfy and I like their toiletry products. Weaker: The front desk staff was a mixed bag. Generally helpful and nice, but I was received more coolly here than some other places. Housekeeping. I 1000% understand we are still struggling with COVID and the economy and labor issues. And I don’t know who had my room previously, but there were several small shards of glass in the seating area, there was a pair of underwear behind the couch (which I didn’t touch and left there), and I somehow found a pair of dried up old contact lenses on the bedspread. Please note, the room was generally clean and well appointed, but the three things I mentioned were pretty big things. Also, if we aren’t going to go back to having minibars (which I’m fine with), can we have mini fridges in the rooms? I get you’re trying to up-sell room service, but I would just like to be able to chill my water or have something cool to drink without asking for a (too small) bucket of ice. Would stay again. The positive far outweighs the negative. Tip: no valet parking, but there is a garage across the street that charges 10 bucks a night.

Just about everything was as good as it gets. An exceptionally friendly staff. Kudos to the whole bunch. We were really tired when we realized that we'd not been given the wifi directions, which made us roll our eyes--I had to get up and go downstairs to get it. I'm sure giving it to us was something the guy at the front desk--a really nice guy--simply forgot.

Contacted the hotel indicating a next day arrival because of illness in the family, understanding that day 1 of the stay was non-refundable, but wanted it to be understood that we would arrive on the 2nd and final day of our stay. Day 2 received an email, indicating a no-show, followed by a call to the hotel, in which I was hung up on multiple times and finally just refused to answer. I may have raised my voice but never used vulgar or abusive language. They simply didn't want to deal with it. After 45 minutes with the corporate agent, I finally received notification of my original reinstated prepaid reservation. I've stayed at lower priced Hilton properties, that were properly updated, had a free breakfast, and capable desk staff with more professionalism. Way too many options in KC to take another chance on this hotel again.
