A bit dated and a a little bit tired, but what a lovely hotel with large rooms and great location. Sitting areas in the room were wonderful, the onsen was very nice, we really enjoyed our stay here. Everything we needed for the two days we were in Kanazawa were within easy walking distance. It's location counts for a lot. We had a room that faced the castle though it was not high enough to let us look over the castle grounds. Still looking into the hillside at nature was a nice change for us. We never ate at the hotel because we thought the cost for breakfast (though I'm sure it would have been good) was high and we tended to wander the town for our other meals. Free shuttle back to the train station was nice but a little more information on how to catch it from the train station would have been nice.

I’m here now and want to write about my experience as it’s happening. I’m blown away at this property. The beauty, the people, the quiet…except for the waterfall which you hear if you’re outside. I have a balcony room. The AC is splendid! There’s a tub inside the large shower area. The shower water is a little weaker than I normally care for, but YMMV. Breakfast is a huge buffet with very nice options, all Japanese and all high quality. Both mornings, I’ve been served an amuse. Tonight I’ll try dinner for the first time here, and no doubt it’ll be delicious. If you opt out of housekeeping, they leave you a big bag of two each large towels, hand towels and bath towels. Housekeeping is as quiet as a church mouse. I arrived at the Kanazawa train station, and even though I knew that there would be a shuttle bus, and which side to exit from, I didn’t know which one was mine. This information is not on the website, so I’ll tell you that you exit on the west side, and upon exiting, turn to the right, where the group bus waiting area is. And watch for a bus that is white with an orange *****e on the front. One other word of caution. There are two hotels that are named the same. Just because you see the hotel name on the outside, that may not be yours. Do you want to be sure that the driver and the accompanying guide know that the one you want is on this particular street. It’s a really new hotel, as it’s only been open for about a year. I upgraded and got the lounge access and that’s been totally worth it! The afternoon suites are so stunningly gorgeous and there’s a cocktail hour also in the afternoon, but I think it’s really like three or four hours long. The staff speaks their English, but have your Google translate ready for words that they may not automatically know. However, I will say they are extremely eager to understand and please you. I highly recommend this hotel!!

We wanted to experience one traditional ryokan during our month in Japan, and we could not have made a better choice than Asadaya. Our welcome was gracious and following a tea service we were shown to our tatami room. We had just spent a week in a western-style hotel in Tokyo, and this room could not have been more different. When the door closed, we sat on the floor staring at each other in our simple suite, and my husband said ”Are you sure this was a good idea?” At that moment, I wasn't sure. Neither of us had experienced such simple accommodations before and we're not bed and breakfast types. But we changed our minds quickly when we allowed the peaceful zen of the place to take over. We fell in love with every single thing about our experience: our beautiful and simple suite, the comfortable beds (made extra long for two tall guys), wearing yukatas, enjoying the family bath (we never even used the in-room shower), afternoon tea, and the over-the-top kaiseke meals served on the most gorgeous dinnerware you'll ever see. It's hard to put into words the level of personal and respectful service we experienced throughout our three night stay. By the time we checked out, we felt like honored guests and close family, both at the same time. As we continued our travels through Japan, we met several natives of Kanazawa who live in other cities. Each of them knew of Asadaya by reputation, and each said the same thing: ”Asadaya is famous in Japan. Asadaya is well-known as one of the finest ryokans. You're so lucky to have stayed there.” Indeed, we were fortunate to experience this traditional ryokan experience. We'll be forever be grateful to sixteenth generation owner Qta, his mom Mrs. Asada, and everyone who hosted and cared for us. We're happy to have made their friendships and to experienced Japan through their hospitality. Tips: Don't miss the D.T. Suzuki Museum, one of the finest pieces of contemporary architecture on the planet and an equal of Mies' Barcelona Pavilion. If you're in town long enough, be sure to visit one of Qta's restaurants. We enjoyed phenomenal teppanyaki at Rokkakudo. Kanazawa is a wonderful small city. We highly recommend a multi-night stay to have the time to relax into it and enjoy all it has to offer.

Fantastic hotel with spacious rooms and very friendly staff. We chose Nikko Kanazawa because of its proximity to the train station. Hotel Nikko is actually Kanazawa’s tallest building, designed by a Japanese-French team. Rooms located on 21st-25th floors have beautiful views. Nikko is connected to the Higashi ( eastern) side of the station by the underground passageway through the Porter building. Our room at the 21st floor was large, clean and modern with a fantastic view over the city towards the Sea of Japan. It was very relaxing at the end of the day to sit in arm chairs and watch the sunset. Service was excellent. We found a good restaurant on the sixth floor of the Forus shopping center adjacent to the train station (on the right if you look at the eastern entrance to the station through the giant Torii gate). The name is Morimorizushi Kanazawa Ekimae-ten (sushi), you can't miss it - there will be people on the benches waiting outside. The line goes fast, just don't forget to take your ticket at the entrance. This hi-tech kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi joint is a fantastic place for excellent sushi at reasonable price. It is only 4-5 min. from Hotel Nikko and on rainy day you can reach it by the underground passage. We liked Hotel Nikko and would stay here again.

The hotel location is excellent. Take a bus from JR train station to Xianglinfang, just across the road. The station for the return trip is downstairs, and it is about 1 km to walk to Omicho Market, Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden. Various restaurants are hidden in the surrounding paths, and one Michelin star Otome Sushi is 600 meters away. Next to the hotel is Uniqlo on the third floor and ABC Mart on the second floor in Tokyu Mall. Opposite is Daiwa Department Store in Kanazawa's highest-level mall. There is a foil shop on the negative first floor. When you go out and turn right across two roads, you will find LOFT. Behind the hotel is Da Guo Medicine Makeup. The hotel has parking lot 🅿️ can be reached by car. We lived in a 23-square-meter room, enough to spread out two 26-inch suitcases, the bathroom was large, the bedding was comfortable, and the first night I didn't even recognize the bed and slept very well

The hotel definitely feels a bit old and tired, but it's still very clean and comfortable with excellent service. I was upgraded to what was essentially a junior suite due to my status and found the room to be very spacious and comfortable. The pillows were too soft for my taste but luckily there was a harder pillow in the closest. The toilet has an automatic bidet which will raise the lid as you get near it and then automatically flush (fancy!). Every morning the staff would also provide newspapers, which I thought was really old school. Location-wise this hotel can't be beat. You're literally right next to Kanazawa Station which gives you easy transportation access and also puts you close to dining options. There are a lot of malls around the station with good restaurants and shops. There's also a large 711 just a few steps away. The only gripe I had about the room was that I found the sink area to be a bit too small and there was little space for me to put my toiletries.

We had a wonderful stay at Sumiyoshiya. The property itself is older but very well taken care of and our room was clean and comfortable. We booked late and the only room available was one with shared bath. So that meant we had a toilet in the room but had to go to a shared, single sex bathroom for showers. There was one open space for showers and a hot bath so it can be slightly comfortable if you're not used to the open concept. Thankfully I had the whole place to myself on a Tues night and I was able to have some peace and quiet in the hot tub/bath. The owners were extremely friendly and the entire stay (check-in, check-out, etc) was very pleasant. But the best part was the kaiseki dinner that was available as an additional option (approx. $50-60/person). It was a seafood feast featuring all the fresh daily catch from the fish market next door. It was so delicious and amazing that I'd stay here again just for the dinner! The location was great; an easy walk from the main station, right next to the famous Omicho Market and a short walk to the Kenrokuen Garden. I highly recommend Sumiyoshiya for the hospitality and the amazing dinner!

The hotel has a great style and design aesthetic. There are many wonderful details that make this a great place to stay. The hotel is well located between the fish markets and castle and a short drive from the rail station. All the main sights are in walking distance from the hotel. The entrance is very subtle and hints at the discoveries to come as you enter the hotel proper. The lobby/breakfast area looks amazing has great examples of local art and crafts spread around as well as snacks and drinks. There is a screened entry to each room which a nice detail. A compact but beautifully designed room awaits. Everything is catered for and has its own place. The spa bath was so good. We has a wonderful stay. The staff are efficient and friendly. Some were not always confident with english but language was no barrier. All are dressed in traditional clothes and despite being a modern hotel the service felt very traditional. The breakfasts were great with a choice between Japanese and Western. The local choice was best. Would recommend the UAN if you are in Kanazawa.

There are 3 good points. 1st, the location is very good, as it was walking distance from/to most of the places I wanted to visit. It's about a ~10min walk from Kanazawa Station, so no hassle getting to the hotel when you arrive. It's about ~10-15min walk to Kanazawa Castle (金沢城) and Kenrokuen (兼六園). The Omicho Market (近江町市場) is literally right across the street, so you can easily hop over there to either start or end your day with some sushi. For the more distant places, there are nearby bus stops to get to areas like the Higashi Chaya district (ひがし茶屋街) or the museums. (Though if you prefer walking, Higashi Chaya district is still walkable at about ~15-20mins). 2nd, the room was quite spacious for a solo traveler, as compared to the typical business hotel. It has a unit-type toilet+bathroom, but it was spacious enough that you can change in there (I think it can even fit 2 people at once). The room was very clean and tidy, and since all rooms are non-smoking, the place doesn't smell funny. The room provides complete amenities like the hot water kettle, a ref, and enough sockets for charging your gear. 3rd, the breakfast buffet was delicious. The selection of both western and local japanese dishes made it worth its price. There is unlimited coffee too, which is available even outside the buffet (great for people who can't go throughout the day without coffee). The staff speaks English well, so no worries if your Japanese skills aren't that great like me. All in all, would gladly stay here again if I find myself in Kanazawa :)

Per quanto riguarda l’alloggio, che dire…. Una vera meraviglia!!! La perfetta unione tra modernità e tradizione, in un ambiente accogliente potrete trovare i comfort del presente (smart TV, wi-fi, caldaia smart, microonde, lavatrice e molto altro) e le stupende usanze del passato. Legno, tatami e sughero adornano tutte le stanze nelle quali si può passeggiare, rigorosamente scalzi. Un sogno!! Dormire in un futon (tipico letto giapponese) è stata un’ottima esperienza, vi assicuro che oltre ad essere molto comodo è rilassante potersi distendere percependo il calore trattenuto dai tatami. Ultimo ma non ultimo la colazione PERFETTA!!! Preparata con attenzione e precisione, potrete gustare sia dolce che salato ed il tutto servito con succo di frutta e caffè/tè. We were greeted at the entrance by friendly staff who immediately made us feel ”at home.” After offering us a very good local beer and assigning rooms the girl who received us was very nice and friendly explaining the major points of interest in the area and recommending some excellent restaurants. As for the accommodation, what can I say.... A true wonder!!! The perfect union of modernity and tradition, in a cozy environment you can find the comforts of the present (smart TV, wi-fi, smart boiler, microwave, washing machine) and the wonderful customs of the past. Wood, tatami and cork adorn all the rooms in which you can walk, of course, strictly barefoot. A dream!!! Sleeping in a futon (typical Japanese bed) was a great experience, I assure you that besides being very comfortable it is relaxing to be able to lie down feeling the heat held by the tatami mats. Last but not least the PERFECT breakfast!!! Prepared with care and precision, you can enjoy both sweet and savory and all served with juice and coffee/tea. The attention to detail is nothing short of sensational and lovely, plentiful dishes and superlative quality. As the ”sales manager” of the hotel, the landlord will bring GAOoo out and watch the guests leave together. It is very warm. Just arranging for a day in Kanazawa is really not enough, I will definitely come to Kanazawa again, and I will definitely come back to GAOoo again!

Dormire in un futon (tipico letto giapponese) è stata un’ottima esperienza, vi assicuro che oltre ad essere molto comodo è rilassante potersi distendere percependo il calore trattenuto dai tatami. Ultimo ma non ultimo la colazione PERFETTA!!! Preparata con attenzione e precisione, potrete gustare sia dolce che salato ed il tutto servito con succo di frutta e caffè/tè. La cura dei dettagli è a dir poco sensazionale e adorabile, pietanze abbondati e qualità superlativa. Per concludere: posto stupendo, esperienza ottima, consigliata e assolutamente da rifare!!! ————————— The modern ”ryokan” is located in the center of Kanazawa in a beautiful, typical and quaint neighborhood where you can breathe the air of authentic Japan. We were greeted at the entrance by friendly staff who immediately made us feel ”at home.” After offering us a very good local beer and assigning rooms the girl who received us was very nice and friendly explaining the major points of interest in the area and recommending some excellent restaurants. As for the accommodation, what can I say.... A true wonder!!! The perfect union of modernity and tradition, in a cozy environment you can find the comforts of the present (smart TV, wi-fi, smart boiler, microwave, washing machine) and the wonderful customs of the past. Wood, tatami and cork adorn all the rooms in which you can walk, of course, strictly barefoot. A dream!!! Sleeping in a futon (typical Japanese bed) was a great experience, I assure you that besides being very comfortable it is relaxing to be able to lie down feeling the heat held by the tatami mats. Last but not least the PERFECT breakfast!!! Prepared with care and precision, you can enjoy both sweet and savory and all served with juice and coffee/tea. The attention to detail is nothing short of sensational and lovely, plentiful dishes and superlative quality. To conclude: wonderful place, excellent experience, recommended and absolutely to do again!!!

This is a stylish old style house with new facilities. It is very clean and has a colonnade. Antique furniture and abundant tableware are also great. Game consoles and various fashionable coffee supplies are very interesting. There are also two parking lots and even an electric car charger.

The hotel is small but the service is very good. The clerk patiently introduces the routes of Kanazawa's famous attractions. There are various detailed maps, the business schedules of surrounding restaurants, and even the stalls of Omicho Market. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Omicho Market and a 3-minute walk from the supermarket, which is very convenient. The waiter is very enthusiastic! Walking to Kenrokuen is also acceptable! Bathrooms, toilets, and sinks are shared, but they can be used at any time, and they don’t feel crowded. The front desk brother is very good in English and communication is barrier-free.
