There was no hot water for several days, very slow Internet (maximum 5 Mbit/sec), periodically you need to reconnect and enter the username/password that is given upon check-in. Breakfast ok, location ok.

Unfortunately I cannot call it a pleasant experience. The Merwano is a small hotel located in one of the alleys leading to Istiklal street. It I'd near the subway station, in walking distance of Taksim Square and near lots and lots of clothing stores if you're interested in shopping. But about the hotel, we'll I can't say much. The rooms are tiny. The bathroom is even tinier. There isn't even enough room for you to take a shower. The staff speak limited English. The building has recently been renovated and the appearance of the rooms and hallways looks clean. After spending the first night we asked for an extra blanket which they didn't supply. They simply said that they didn't have any extra blankets! They didn't clean the room at all during the 3 days we were there. Breakfast is served in the bar downstairs, outside the hotel. So we had to put on our coats and jackets to go to breakfast since our visit was in winter. The lady working at the bar and serving breakfast was always in a bad mood. We were scared to even ask for some salt. Breakfast was a plate with some cheese, tomatoes and cucumbers, exactly 4 olives, individual jam and butter, and a hard boiled egg. We had to book this place in the last moment just because our reservation with another hotel wasn't confirmed in time and our travel agency didn't give us enough information about this hotel. So I would not recommend this hotel especially if it is your first visit to Istanbul.

The hotel descriptions are nothing like that which we faced when we arrived. It is extremely basic! I didn’t really look at any reviews and did’t see that it was only a 2*. The room was extremely small which was fine but the bathroom was dreadful! The toilet brush was actually in the toilet pan, the tap over the wash hand basin was covered in rust, the fan was hanging from a hole in the wall with live wires hanging loose. Brown ground in dirt staines around the bottom of the toilet in around the bottom of the shower! There was a thick ring of dirt around the bottom of the wash and basin where it joined the stand! I could go on….. we immediately cancelled our booking and had to wander round at almost midnight to find somewhere to stay. On our return home, we found that they have a non refund policy. After 3 emails to the hotel (which remained unanswered) I then telephoned the Asmali thinking maybe they would take pity on us. No chance!!!! I was told that the room was in fact a TRIPLE Room which we were given ‘for our comfort’! Please do not believe any of the descriptions given in the ‘blurb’ none of it is true! I will say, the receptionist did offer to get the bathroom re cleaned the next morning but the stains and the rust had been there for a very very long time so another clean would not have helped! There is also a danger hazard at the top of the stairs that go into the reception. Going down is literally a hole in the floor with no rails to hold onto! All in all I would recommend not even considering this hotel, it will not be a good experience. All six of my party cancelled their booking and we all found another hotel to stay in. £242.79 just thrown away!!!!

The bad experience ever, we have never slept at the merwano hostel. We have booked through booking and our payment+reservation were confirmed. When we came to the hotel, they said that the hotel was full for the night, and they gave us a shelter not a room, everything was broken,it was very dirty, nothing like the pictures in booking. We came back and asked just for a clean and descend room but they said again that the hotel was full and that was the only room they can provide us. It was about 11pm, and we had nowhere to stay. So we kept asking for a descend room, one of the staff asked us to leave the hotel. we said if they don't give us the room we reserved, we will call the police and we kept asking for our right to have that room. They were afraid and called the owner. The owner asked us to stay at that dirty room just for one night, we insisted that the room was soooo dirty and nothing worked there. After a looong time he gave us a room in another hotel. We never stayed at the merwano hotel. The next day, we decided to make a reservation in another hotel because we didn't feel safe. We wasted our time looking for another hotel and that experience ruined ou stay in istanbul. Please for your own safety, don't stay at this hotell!!!!

This was easily the worst hotels I have visited. When we checked in (3 people, 2 rooms), the rooms were ridiculously small, full of insects, and we could see bedbugs all over. No soap or shampoo were provided. No blow-dryer, and no air conditioning (All of which are services that are advertised for online). When we asked to change rooms, the Manager refused and said it is fully booked. We asked if they can at least clean the rooms and provide toiletries, they said the cleaning staff is not around now and we need to wait till the day after. The manager had a really rude attitude. We immediately left and they refused to give us a refund. Worst experience ever.
