Tower Regency Hotel & Apartments

Ipoh|2.78km from Wat Mek Prasit Temple
Review: Tower Regency Hotel Good: The hotel was quite central and near Ipoh Parade (a large shopping mall). There were plenty of F&B options within walking distance too. The hotel receptionist suggested that we checked out the food trucks at Dataran Ipoh (about 5-8 min walk from our hotel). The food trucks serve local cuisine and has a nice street-food vibe and ambience. The buffet breakfast was not much, but it had some delicious food. Can be improved: There was no hotel porter to help with our luggage when we arrived. Apparently the hotel’s one and only porter had stepped out for a break. We had to carry our luggage from the car to the hotel lobby and then to our rooms ourselves. There’s no valet to park our car either. It’s an old hotel which may have its charms (reminds me of the 70s Malay movies I’ve watched), but it’s certainly due for a makeover. There were stains on the carpet and the walls needed a fresh coat of paint. The spray hose in our toilet leaked when we turned the tap on. We didn’t realise it at first, and it wet the floor. There was no iron and ironing board in our room, but there was one in the hall for common use. However, the iron’s markings were not visible anymore. We almost burnt our scarves while ironing because it was too hot. The bathroom towels were too thin on day 1, but they were thicker on the next day. There were no face towels or bedroom slippers either.

If you’re looking for a cozy place, a quiet environment, a nice lady with a happy smile who will welcome you to this tiny guesthouse, a clean and comfortable room, with the door that you have to remember to lock with a real key like in the old days, if you want to sleep surrounded by silence and be awakened by the chirping of birds, well, this is the place for you. The name itself and the interior decoration want to give a perception of old English cottage, although with a bit too many modern reproductions of old furniture. But it’s cute – and unusual. You can park the car inside – on a first come first serve basis. I was lucky to get the room at the first floor with the larger balcony. The bed is extremely comfortable, and the night silence helps having a perfect sleeping experience. They do not serve breakfast in the morning, but this is not a big issue for me. You can find places for that within a few minutes’ drive from here. That was my first experience there, just for one night. I will probably choose it again on my next trip to Ipoh.

fine. It’s just that if you’re familiar with a certain app, you can order another one with a difference of RMB 100. hehe.
Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites

Overall a wonderful experience at Kinta Riverfront. I booked 2 units of 3 bedroom apartment. The aircond in the master bedroom wasn't powerful enough to cool the entire room, we had to push the bed a little to the right so that the AC blows cool air directly at us. Cleaner only cleaned what can be seen, upon moving the bed by about an inch and a half, I was able to see how dusty the room actually is. There were ants at the pantry, no dishwashing liquid provided. We wanted to wash our cups to avoid ants, had to use the shower gel instead. Poor soundproofing, you can hear the upbeat music from coming from Kinta Riverwalk open space where they have perform fireshows at night. Our units were on level 17 and 18 respectively. On the second night, there were construction going on until 1am. We even saw sparks coming out from one of the balconies. Drilling and hammering sounds, no, not the spooky type. We complained to the receptionist around 9pm but the noise happened again between 11pm and 1am. You will have neighbours who have dogs that will bark at strangers. Parking was plenty and easy to access. Bellboy greeted us with welcome drinks. Receptionist was warm and friendly. Wished I had the chance to try their breakfast. Perhaps next time. Will definitely come again but request for higher floors.

This was the first time we ended up in a hotel that we could not choose ourselves! Coming back into Malaysia from overseas, we were assigned to this hotel by the local health department. As soon as we knew the name of the hotel, we looked online and called the hotel manager, Mr Vilu to get a better idea of what to bring with us. He was very nice in answering all our questions like what type of connection did the room TV have so I could bring the correct cable to connect my laptop (HDMI btw). Being confined in a hotel room for 2 weeks is not something we had ever done before so having a laptop with internet was going to be our main activity during our confinement. The hotel provides adequate free wifi but we could also use our own internet in our phone as a hot spot (good coverage in our room). Luckily for us, we had a room with a window so we could see traffic passing by as well as mountains on the horizon and daylight! If you are a light sleeper, make sure to bring cotton balls for your ears at night as there is constant traffic on the main road nearby (we slept like babies thanks to our ear plugs). The room was clean, the beds comfortable, the water hot in the shower, the AC working perfect with a ceiling fan so can control the air flow. TV screen was nice quality LG with good sound so we could enjoy documentaries, movies from our laptop (we did not watch any of the 5 lame mainstream channels). The food was delivered to our room (another novelty for us, obliged during quarantine!) and it was surprisingly varied (mix of Malaysian and intl cuisine) and abundant enough prepared by a caterer hired by the hotel. Once a day, you can order food delivery but we never felt the need to as the standard catered food was satisfying. We could communicate easily with the hotel staff via a whatsapp group or phone and our few special requests were answered right away. Mr Vilu and the hotel staff are probably the best asset for this hotel and should we ever need an hotel room in this area, we would not hesitate to come back at the Eastana Hotel. Thank you for making our mandatory stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Contrary to what we heard from other quarantined people in other parts of Malaysia about food and rooms, we have no critics about this hotel, a very good choice by the local gvt!

My wife & I chose this budget hotel for a 2-night stay, basically for its location. Depending on traffic condition, it's within a 5- to 10-minute drive to eating places (e.g. Jalan Bandar Timah, Jalan Yau Tet Shin) or food courts in nearby Ipoh Gardens and Medan Selera Stadium. This is also one of the budget hotels with its own car park albeit limited bays. Checking-in was a breeze and the staff were friendly. This hotel is not suitable for those who have walking difficulty or use wheelchairs as there's a flight of stairs to the first floor and the lift at the end of the hall way. Be prepared to lug your luggage to your room. Our room (#226) was at the back (probably the older wing) and face a school. Fortunately, school was out for the year-end holiday. Room size was decent for the rate we paid. During our stay, the room was made up daily and replenished with 2 bottles of water and 2 packets of 3-in-1 Ipoh White Coffee (no tea bags). A kettle is provided. The air-con was a comparatively old but worked effectively to cool the room. Couldn't get any channels on the non-LCD television. Strong wi-fi signal, but couldn't log in. The bed -- firm mattress but this cannot be said of the pillows; ength of the blanket too short. Bathroom -- no toiletry provided; shower faucet plus bodywash/shampoo dispenser. Strong pressure with hot water. However, you'll have to wait for the water in the tank to heat up if your spouse or roommate has used up the hot water. Well-worn bath towels.
