We had been looking forward to going up north to stay at the manor for some time and finally got a chance to celebrate my husband's birthday in December there. It was not really what I expected. When we arrived there was a very icy drive with no salt down. We arrived when we said we would but came into the manor and no one was around to greet us and there was no where to check in. A nice but smokey fire was going in the main room which was welcoming but other guests were already taking up the only available limited seating near it. On a weekend in Dec we were some of the only guests and felt no hospitality. When someone did finally come out from another room, we were told (not shown, although we had never been there and didn't know where anything was) the location of our room on another floor and told where to find a key. I had booked my husband a massage and asked where that was to take place to find out it was in another building, not easily accessible and another point rather than show. We went up to the room and the chocolate covered strawberries I had ordered were there waiting for us, which was nice. They were set on the plate and then coated so they were glued to the plate and very difficult to remove and the bottom halves were all broken off trying to pry them off the plate. Disappointing they don't know how to cover strawberries in chocolate so they aren't ruined trying to eat them and very messy. Not a worthwhile add on purchase. The room itself was not unpleasant, but had a very old, worn out feel to it- not old in the good way, which was what we were expecting. Peeling wallpaper, outdated bath with a broken drain, plexiglass over the windows in the bath, ratty tatty blinds and curtains - one of the curtains actually fell off the rod when I tried to close it because the curtain rod was either old, broken or both. There was no table space available for us to use with the wing chairs to set our drinks on or play a game, so I tried to use the table the little TV was on by moving it to the floor since we weren't going to be watching it and tried to move between the two chairs and one of the table legs fell off- clearly set just so as long as you didn't touch it it was ok. So the room had its flaws, but it was also a very awkward layout. The alley where the windows and view is is not an area you can sit in and the area in front of the fireplace isn't large enough to have the two chairs in so you can't really enjoy the view from sitting or the bed and you can't enjoy the fireplace by being able to sit near it, only lay in the bed- but because you have a live fire to start and tend, it's not ideal to do from the bed and it was just overall a very awkward layout. The view from the tub is nice, but if you fill the tub the steam clouds the plexiglass and you can't see and the drain is broken so it won't hold water long enough to enjoy anyway. While my husband was getting a massage I went down at tea time to enjoy the fire and a snack, which was

Beautifully located hotel. Lovely room with character. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was gorgeous ... possibly the best omelette I've ever had for breakfast, although the stunning view out the window helped! We had soup and a scone on our arrival as very tired after a long day of travel, and ate in the restaurant the following night. All delicious, as were the cocktails. We did not want to leave. Will definitely return if we are in the area.

The Manor on Golden Pond is a beautiful place. The workmanship is incredible. All of the details in the rooms and common areas are exquisite. The rooms were beautifully designed with fantastic details like wood burning fireplaces, in room jacuzzis. The staff were very professional and so willing to do whatever needed to be done. The dining room was beautiful and the food so delicious. This was the most beautiful place we have ever been in. The history of the Manor was available in the lobby area and reading about all the previous owners and renovations performed over the years was amazing. My wife and I are already planning our next visit. Chef Dan had a fantastic menu.

On our arrival and check in we were informed that we had been upgraded to rooms with working fireplaces. What a treat! Our room was elegant in décor and lots of room. Our king size bed was amazingly comfortable with fluffy pillows soft sheets. The main living room very inviting also with a wood burning fireplace. This is where we spent most of our time to visit with our friends and relax. We ate dinner our first night in the pub and we all opted for the smash burgers so delicious cooked to our specs and juicy. Great cocktails and beers! Breakfast is included in your stay, not just muffins bagels fruit etc but delicious made to order eggs, French toast and omelets with all the sides you could want. Also delicious. We ate dinner in the Van Horn dining room also perfectly cooked filet with these amazing mashed potato cakes crisp on outside creamy inside. The staff were the best we have encountered friendly, accommodating and informative about the surrounding area. It felt like they could not do enough for us and made our stay. We are all planning on coming back. Do not hesitate to stay here you will not be disappointed. The Pages

We went at a very slow time of year, but there were still many elements of a great stay. It was quiet, warm fireplaces were lit in every area, and the staff was all very accommodating. The spa massage was fantastic, and the dinners were cooked perfectly. Again all by the fire. Mind you, these are wood burning fireplaces, which are hard to find, but SO much better than the faux-gas burning facades. Nothing like a great fire, a few drinks, and a meal with friends or loved ones. We'll be going back next year!

We have dined at the Van Horn Dining Room several times over many years and had a consistently wonderful experience. This recent birthday celebration dinner was not the same. The food was tasteless, cold, overcooked and underwhelming. Sad to see the quality fall so far below standard in this local gem. The service, however, was exceptional and the staff was appropriately apologetic.

With new owners at the helm we had a much better experience then a few years ago. It was still nice then but the attention to details makes a difference-- the fluffy towels, the extra clean rooms, etc. The restaurant, the cozy fire, the beautiful setting and friendly staff all make this a gem of a place to stay.

I found out about the Manor from a radio show I listen to in the morning. We wanted to get away for our anniversary and decided on The Manor. From the moment we arrived we were well taken care of. Our hostess Megan was the best. She saw to our every need and made our stay extremely comfortable. The manor is undergoing some changes and we can't wait to go back in the future and see what they have to offer . I highly recommend The Manor to anyone seeking relaxation, beautiful scenery, and wonderful accommodations. Again, Megan is top notch!!

Cozy. Most comfortable bed I've ever been in. Fireplace in the room creates a wonderful ambiance. Very romantic place. Decent restaurant.
