Amazing Onsen experience staying in Hotel Koyokan. They have cultural show at night as well.

The Aoba-kan was a wonderful surprise on this trip, as it wasn't originally part of my itinerary. I'd added it because I thought it would be too far to travel from Sendai to Oirase Stream and Lake Towada all at once. As we traveled from Sendai, the snow got progressively deeper. As a 'southern sweet potato' (a playful term for someone from the south, unaccustomed to snow), I was incredibly excited to see such thick snow for the first time. The hotel room was a traditional tatami-style, and it was very spacious. An auntie offered to help me lay out the futon, but I felt a bit shy and declined. Later, I realized I had no idea how to make a tatami bed and even had to look up instructions on Xiaohongshu! That's my futon in the picture above; it's so interesting how their duvet covers are completely different from ours. The hotel itself is quite large, featuring a rose garden, various areas to explore, and even a shrine that's great for photos. While shopping at the hotel's drugstore, I spoke in Chinese to the clerk and complimented him on his excellent Chinese. He looked at me and said, 'I *am* Chinese.' He was the only Chinese staff member I encountered during my entire trip. Later that evening, when I was about to go for dinner, I found that the hotel's buffet was almost finished. I asked a staff member where I could find food, and they directed me to a small, cozy bar upstairs. The food there was surprisingly good and not expensive. Overall, the service at Aoba-kan was exceptional. The hotel hosts a lot of ********* guests, so many of the staff speak excellent Chinese. The evening performance was also very entertaining. The hotel has several different hot springs, and the outdoor private onsen was particularly interesting because you could see the snow.

The room was nice, spacious, and comfortable. The main highlight is the hot springs, with a wide variety of options. I especially recommend the hot springs in the side buildings, as they have better facilities. Breakfast and dinner are buffet-style with a good selection of food. There's live instrumental music every night during dinner, and folk performances in the hotel lobby every evening. The shuttle bus is punctual, with dedicated staff for pick-up and drop-off. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a large onsen hotel, probably very popular 20 years ago. But everything is so old and the service is close to none. If you have never stayed in any authentic Japanese onsen hotel in other cities, you'll probably enjoy it. But for us we've stayed in more than a dozen onsen hotels around Japan now and we'll definitely not return to this one again in the future. The one that we stayed in Niigata before coming here is 10x better. This feels like a mega-branded Hawaii hotel that is outdated and have no heart.

The hotel and facilities were excellent, with at least three public hot spring terraces. The only downside was that after a five-hour flight and a two-hour drive, I arrived to check in and was treated rudely by a Mandarin-speaking receptionist surnamed Qiu. I honestly don't know what I did to offend her; she spoke to me like a memorized script, telling me what I couldn't do at the hot springs, what I couldn't do, and so on, at a pace of 400 words per minute, clearly trying to get rid of me quickly. Her dismissive and extremely rude manner completely ruined the start of my trip.

Suitable for hot springs; you can enjoy hot springs at any of the three locations.

The main reason for staying at the Hongyeguan Hotel was its convenient location for cherry blossom viewing in the north. It's only a little over half an hour's drive to the exhibition center. The hotel includes two meals: a buffet breakfast and dinner. After cherry blossom viewing, guests can enjoy various delicacies such as king crab, soak in the hot springs, and there are even ethnic performances in the evening. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom on the day we checked in, and Hongyeguan was surrounded by them – it was beautiful!

Although the room was dimly lit, it felt very spacious. Breakfast and dinner were both buffet style, and my family enjoyed them very much. The hotel has several hot springs, and it wasn't too crowded that evening.
