The Scotty Hotel Hamburg

It's about a 15-minute walk from the train station. The elevator and wall art playfully poke fun at the British royal family, which might be why it's called 'Scotty'? The hotel itself is decent.

Upon entering the room, we were initially pleasantly surprised: it was very spacious and modernly furnished. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, the cleanliness left much to be desired. Here are the negative points we noticed: - Room condition: There were hairs on the pillow, cobwebs on the ceiling, and dust accumulation in the room corners. Visible crumbs were also present on the floor. - Bathroom hygiene: The faucets and the trash can lid had noticeable limescale stains. Generally, nothing in the bathroom was refilled. - The floor also didn't seem thoroughly cleaned: After wiping it with a towel after showering, the towel was heavily soiled. - Service: At the front desk, we were not asked about our stay or engaged in conversation during either check-in or check-out. We usually don't like to complain, but for us, the stay was disappointing due to these hygiene deficiencies. This is a shame, as the hotel actually has a lot of potential. Since we are in Hamburg several times a year, we will choose other accommodations in the future.

Why is there no door in the bathroom?! Every time I shower, water splashes all over the floor. After showering, the floor is soaked, and you can't even go into the bathroom... What kind of bizarre design is this? Did they skip the bathroom door to save money?!

I liked the hotel, but there's no coffee maker or fridge. Please keep that in mind when booking.

Overall, the hotel gives a modern and appealing impression. The interior design feels contemporary and well-maintained, and the general cleanliness throughout the hotel was acceptable. The room amenities are adequate and functional. The very comfortable king-size bed is a particular highlight. Even with the window open on the 5th floor, the noise level was pleasant and totally acceptable. However, there's room for improvement regarding the practical outfitting of the room and bathroom. Six hangers are rather few for two people, and there's a lack of additional hooks or other options for hanging clothes or towels. In the bathroom, and especially in the shower, storage space is either completely absent or insufficient. The toilet could also be noticeably cleaner with consistent use of cleaner and a brush. The breakfast was generally sufficient, but unfortunately, on Sunday, it was significantly below the standard of a 4-star hotel. By 8:30 AM, key items like scrambled eggs, tomato-mozzarella, and salmon were already unavailable. An hour later, eggs, Nutella, and grilled vegetables were completely missing. Apparently, at times, no clean cups were available as they were still in the dishwasher. The service was mostly handled by a young employee who, despite being very diligent, couldn't manage to clear and reset tables quickly enough on his own. Unfortunately, there were also hygiene issues with the tableware: some tea glasses had visible tea stains, and cutlery, plates, and bowls were not always completely clean. Overall, a modern hotel with good room comfort, but significant weaknesses in breakfast service and cleanliness in the dining area.

Check-in was officially from 3:00 PM. I arrived at 2:15 PM – the room was already ready according to the front desk. Despite this, I was told in an extremely uninterested and unenthusiastic tone that I would have to pay an extra €10 if I wanted to check into the room immediately. So, it wasn't about the room not being available yet, but purely about an additional fee for 45 minutes of early access – even though the room was ready. I find this behavior to be nothing short of a rip-off. After I politely declined to pay, I was demonstrably ignored until shortly before 3:00 PM. No accommodation, no friendliness, no sense of service. I have rarely experienced such disinterest and lack of enthusiasm at a front desk. A successful stay begins with a professional welcome – unfortunately, the opposite was true here. Very disappointing.

The hotel is centrally located with good public transport links. The ambiance is modern and the cleanliness is good. Unfortunately, the professionalism of the staff leaves a little to be desired; they don't seem to be trained hospitality professionals. At breakfast, used dishes weren't cleared away, and a dirty, crumpled cloth was left out in the open. At the front desk, there was a lack of attentive gestures, for instance, at check-out, no one asked if everything was satisfactory or wished us a pleasant journey home. The fact that an earlier check-in, for example at 1:30 PM instead of 3 PM, costs an additional €30 is quite off-putting. In the room, we disliked that the open shower was too short, making it impossible to shower normally without flooding the floor. Also, the toilet flush button was stuck, and there was limescale on the sink faucet. A positive highlight is the affordable overnight price, especially with children in the same room. If you are willing to overlook the aforementioned drawbacks, the hotel is recommendable.
