Renaissance Hamburg Hotel

Stayed there three nights earlier this week. Nice central location, clean and spacious room, good food, friendly reception people, but..... In short, when reserving online, I wrote just one thing in the 'special requests' section, and that was ”As quiet a room as possible please.” I suppose the best and most truthful possible answer to this would have been, ”Sorry, that just won't be possible at the moment because there is loud construction noise all day long, starting at 7 a.m.. We have reserved a room for you at the nearby Marriott instead.” That is of course not what happened. This situation may of course not be entirely the case for every single room. A receptionist told us there were three separate construction projects happening and each affected a different part of the hotel. (None are in the hotel itself.) We had room 524, which is next to a fire escape stairway. I suspect the construction in question was below the bottom of the stairway as the noise seemed to come mainly from there. On Monday morning the jackhammers started at 8 a.m., On Tuesday they started at 7:30 and on Wednesday at 7 a.m. Yesterday (Wednesday), we came back in the middle of the day, hoping for a short nap as the workers took their lunch break, which they did at 12:15. No luck. The hotel ran a pre-announced test of the fire alarm on our floor at 12:35. It rang 8 times. The construction work restarted just after 1 p.m. I measured it at a constant 50 dB using an app on my phone. I feel quite strongly that the rooms in the areas most affected by the construction noise should not be on sale at all. If not, there should be a warning on the website that it will be noisy, advising prospective guests that they should really choose somewhere else for the time being. Yes, I realize that would be a tough decision, but you are putting your reputation on the line at the moment, and the current message seems to be that you don't care.

Hotel Hafen Hamburg

My Wife and I stayed here for four days, originally booked it 2 years ago but was cancelled by the Hotel due to the Covid situation. Their policy is not to issue refunds but vouchers even though this was certainly not our fault. I will start with getting into the Hotel. the Station is right beside the Hotel so you would think this would be handy. Wrong. There are a million steps up to the Hotel and we nearly had a Heart attack trying to climb them with our bags. OK if you are twenty but at almost 60 I would not recommend it. When we arrived to the top we came on a door that turned out to be a closed Restaurant ( no sign on it ). We went around the back and saw a similar door with people out smoking and passed it by. No sign for the Hotel entrance/reception. Having walked around this three times looking for a way in ( in the pouring rain ) we finally discovered that this was the entrance, you had to stand back about twenty yards to see the sign though. Check in was very overcrowded and the girl we dealt with used a tablet to get us to enter our details. It was spotty to say the least, would not accept the phone number and after some 25 minutes proceeded to crash completely. She then reverted to good old fashioned paper to check in. The room, supposedly a ”Captains room”, was very small and cluttered and the bed consisted of two three foot mattresses shoved together. That was bad enough but it had two small three foot duvet type covers instead of proper bedclothes which consistently fell off both of us all night long. Quite frankly it was awful. Did not bother with the breakfast, a bit of a push at €23 per person. Far better options downtown or even the station. There was no Hotel Bar open ( the nautical themed one they have is closed so we could not get a drink on arrival. There is a Tower Bar which opens around 6pm till 2. We tried that on the Saturday night around 11 and queued all the was down the Hall and stairs and after forty minutes of that had enough and returned to our cramped room. Saturday night downtown Hamburg near the Reeperbahn, not a good way to end it. The Hotel is listed a a four star but hard to see how that can be with the lack of facilities, couldn't even manage to get a drink in it. The Staff very all very nice and genuinely helpful but it was a disappointing experience. finally, if you are anyway old or infirm, don't! When retuning we went out the back way and around a long winging sloping road back to the station. Could not face those stairs again with bags now much heavier with shopping etc. Ben

Hotel Hamburger Perle

Hamburg|0.38km from St. Pauli Piers
A very comfortable hotel with very friendly management and staff who (on our visit) were more than willing to try to make sure that our stay was a very pleasant one. Very spacious rooms that were clean with comfortable beds. Which can be at times one of the biggest factors about a hotel. As can be expected the hotel is non-smoking but there is a garden to the rear which despite being surrounded by tall buildings felt very peaceful at times. The only drawback to the hotel is that there is no lift and the entrance itself is up a set of steps. So depending on what floor that you are on it could be quite a little trek up the quirky spiral staircase. The hotel itself is on a quiet street even though when you get to the end of the street you hit the hustle and bustle of shops, food establishments, the theatre, bars, banks, a number of different ATM’s (some free to use while others charge for withdrawing cash) and the police station, it is like you’ve crossed between 2 different worlds. The hotel in ideal location because situated just around the corner from the hotel on the same main road as the shops, choice of food establishments, theatre, and the police station is a number of public transport connection stops meaning that you are free to explore the city and travel with relative ease. If you are planning on using public transport to get around the city then ensure that you purchase the “Hamburg Card” which gives unlimited travel on all HVV public services (bus and trains) including the harbour ferries. The card even includes travel to and from Hamburg Airport (providing you have a valid card), so when you consider that the average price of a taxi to or from the airport is around €35 - €40 each way then the savings start to add up straight away. The card can be bought for just a single traveller or valid for a group of up to 5 people regardless of the ages of travellers. The cost of the card (at the time of writing this review) is: 1 Day — 1 person €11.90 — Group of up to 5 people €19.90 2 Days — 1 person €20.90 — Group of up to 5 people €35.90 3 Days — 1 person €29.90 — Group of up to 5 people €49.90 4 Days — 1 person €39.90 — Group of up to 5 people €66.90 5 Days — 1 person €46.90 — Group of up to 5 people €82.90 As you can see for less than the cost of 2 individual cards 5 people can travel together. The card can be bought at various shops, hotels and the tourist information offices or through the dedicated app. As a bonus with the card you get a 50% discount at a large number of tourist attractions. Would I stay at the “Hotel Hamburger Perle” again? Definitely!!!

Egon Hotel Hamburg City

The most satisfying and cost-effective hotel reminds me of Japan, every detail is very thoughtful, even if the room is not big. The occupancy rate in winter is not high. Going left and turning left at the traffic lights is the red light district. The S1 line Reeperbahn station is also here, 10 minutes to the train station central.
Ibis Budget Hamburg St Pauli Messe

Less than 2min from tube station St Pauli and two blocks away from the world famous Reeperbahn, this Ibis Budget is great for all kinds of guests: those on business and who need only a bed and breakfast the next day, those who'll spend the day wandering around the city, among others. The standard is the very same all over the world, so no complaints abou the size of the room and not having this and that are accepted or fair. Being Hamburg a tourist magnet, the price is far too high for a standard IB, especially in the summer, when it can cost as much as a Mercure or even a Pullman elsewhere. Breakfast is basic but you find something to start the day with. The staff could perhaps be friendlier, tough the blond lady heading the reception is sweet for all of them.

In the holliday inn, the rooms are too small, the rooms are too small, and the hotel is next to the red light district, going south and west are the red light districts, there are more drunken people in the evening and early morning, and the public security situation is average.

Very nice hotel with a perfect location in St Pauli just a street from Reeperbahn. It gives you a nice B&B-feeling. The room we got was quite small but otherwize comfortable with nice beds. Didn't like the pillows which were too thin. Very calm area. Good breakfast and worth the price. Walking distance to most places we wanted to visit.

Clean and modern hotel in the middle of the Great Freedom, over the Safari. Freshly renovated. Our room goes out to the street, on the 4th floor. There is hardly the window to listen, we can't hear anything from below - great! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast has a high selection, but not suitable for Vegans. The beds are fantastic and sufficient parking (at charge). From 18:00 a.m. you can't leave the parking lot. Then better park in the deep garage. Many guests from the Baltic room.

The worst reception staff I have encountered in my life (and I travel for work and live in hotel most of the year). I am referring to the old grumpy man, whose name I couldn't get to know. So firstly, the check in. The receptionist did not seem very greeting. But the shady stuff starts happening once I pay for my stay. I pay in cash and he tries to keep 10 euros from the change to himself thinking I won't notice, but luckily I know basic math. He didn't seem apologetic or too happy to give me the right amount too 😁. Secondly, the room. I expected this to be a no thrills type of place, but I found it ridiculous how when I booked a double room for 2 people, only one bed was ready and had sheets on it while the other one was completely bare (in Germany they usually have 2 single beds next to each other as a double bed). During my stay I was also asked by the receptionist if he can call the booking company and tell them I canceled my stay and if they ask me that confirm it, but since I already paid I can continue staying as normal. I found that awfully weird and shady and of course said no since why would I do that. And the worst of all was when I had my friend come stay with me (mind you I booked and payed for 2 people to stay). The receptionist asked him to pay another 20 euros in Cash when he arrived. And when I was told this I was really not ok with this and went down to show that I booked a 2 person stay and already paid everything. The reception at first started saying that I had multiple guests. Then started to say he never asked for 20 euros when the second guest arrived and he also started to use swear words and for me to shut up and go to my room when I demanded the money back. I was shocked to have a receptionist speak to me like that. Clearly this person is very shady and if he is a staff member and not the owner, I would advise the managers or owners to find a replacement since I really don't think a hotel is a right place for this person and on the long term you're gonna ruin your reputation. I really would advice to stay away from this place since it was not a relaxing stay at all. I would say the only good things were the bed (which only one of them was ready 😁), but the room itself is a joke, there were no hangers and no chair by the desk. A change in staff or some training and a few basic things in the room would make this place really worth while since it seemed newly renovated and is in a convenient location. Though st Pauli is a bit trashy to begin with, but you should expect that.
